Keep the area around vehicle senso rsor
cameras clear of any obst ructions and
clean. #
Have damage tothe bumper, radiator
gr ille or stone chipping in the area of the
front and rear wind owsre paired at a
qu ali/ed specialist workshop. Pa
rticular ly,ke ep the areas around the sensors
and cameras free of dirt, ice or slush
(/ page 342). The sensors and cameras must not be co
vered and the de tection ranges around
th em must be kept free. Do not at tach additional
licence plate brac kets, advertisements, stic kers,
fo ils or foils toprotect against stone chippings in
th e de tection range of the sensors and cameras.
Make sure that there are no overhanging loads
pr otru ding into the de tection range.
If th ere is damage toa bumper or thera diator
gr ille, or aTer an impact, ha vethe function of the
senso rschecked at a quali/ed specialist work-
shop. Ha vedamage or stone chipping in the area
of the cameras on the front and rear wind ows

unctions of ABS The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
regulates the
brake pressure in critical driving situations:
R During braking, for instance, at maximum full-
stop braking or if there is insu1cient tyre trac-
tion, the wheels are pr evented from locking.
R Vehicle steerability while braking is ensu red.
If ABS inter venes when braking, you will feel a
pulsing in the brake pedal. The pulsating brake
pedal can be an indication of hazardous road con-
ditions and can ser veas a reminder totake extra
care while driving.

malfunction in BAS(Brake Assist System)
If BAS is malfunctioning, the braking distance
in an emer gency braking situation is
increased. #
Dep ress the brake pedal with full forc e in
emer gency braking situations. ABS pre-
ve nts the wheels from locking. The Brake Assist System (BAS) supports
your
emer gency braking situation with additional brake
fo rc e.
If yo u depress the brake pedal quickl y,BAS is
activated:
R BAS automatically boosts the brake pressure.
R BAS can shor tenth e braking distance.
R ABS pr events the wheels from locking.
The brakes will function as usual once youre lease

The Brake immediately message may also appear
in the Instrument Displa y:#
Immediately depress the brake pedal /rmly
until thewa rning message disappears.
The HOLD function is deactivated.
A horn sounds at regular inter vals if, despite the
Brake immediately message,you switch o. the
ve hicle, remo veyour seat belt and open the driv-
er's door. If you attem pttolock theve hicle, the horn
tone becomes louder. The vehicle cann otbe
loc ked until you ha vedeactivated the HOLD func-
tion.
% Once you ha veswitched o. theve hicle, you
cannot restart it until you ha vedeactivated

If th eve hicle is braked sharply from speeds abo ve
50 km/h, the brake lamps 0ash rapidl y.This pro-
vides tra1c tr avelling behind you with an even
more noticeable warning.
If th eve hicle is tr avelling at speeds of more than
70 km/h at the beginning of the brake applica-
tion, the hazard warning lights switch on once the
ve hicle is stationar y.When you pull away again,
th e hazard warning lights will switch o. automati-
cally at appr oximately 10 km/h. You can also 226

If engine oil comes into contact with hot com-
ponent parts in the engine compartment, it
may ignite. #
Make sure that no engine oil is spilled
next tothe /ller opening. #
Allow the engine tocool o. and thor-
oughly clean the engine oil from compo-
nent parts before starting theve hicle. *

sumes up to0.8 litre of oil per 1000 km. The
oil consum ption may be higher than this when
th eve hicle is new or if you frequently drive at
high engine speeds. #
Turn cap 1anti-clockwise and remo veit. #
Top up the engine oil. #
Replace cap 1and turn it clockwise until it
engages. #

Check the coolant temp erature display in the
inst rument cluster.
The coolant temp erature must be below 70°C. #
Slowly turn cap 1anti-clockwise torelease

Continue turning cap 1anti-clockwise and
re mo veit. The coolant le
vel is cor rect in thefo llowing cases:
R Ifth e engine is cold, the coolant is up to
mar ker bar 2.
R Ifth e engine is warm,th e coolant is up to
1.5 cm overth e mar ker bar 2. #
