list of menus.
X Press the :or9 button on the steering
wheel to select the AMG
AMGmenu.
X Confirm by pressing aon the steering
wheel.
X Press the 9button repeatedly until SETUP
is displayed. Further information on the upshift indicator and
gear indicator (Y page 115).
RACE TIMER Displaying and starting the RACETIMER

The RACETIMER is only intended for use on a
closed race circuit. Do not use the function on
public roads.
You can start the RACETIMER when the engine is running or if you select key position 2with the
Start/Stop button.
X Use ò on the steering wheel to call up the
list of menus.
X Press the :or9 button on the steering
wheel to select the AMG AMGmenu.
X Confirm by pressing aon the steering
wheel.
X Press the :or9 button repeatedly
until the RACETIMER is shown.
X To start: press the abutton to start the

Introduction
General notes Display messages appear in the multifunction display.
Display messages with graphic symbols are simplified in the Owner's Manual and may differ from
the symbols in the multifunction display.
Please respond in accordance with the display messages and follow the additional notes in this
Owner's Manual.
With certain display messages, you will also hear a warning tone.
You can hide the display messages. The display messages are then stored in the message memory.
Rectify the cause of a display message as soon as possible.
When you stop and park the vehicle, please observe the notes on:
R HOLD function (Y page 138)
R Parking (Y page 119)
Hiding display messages X
Press the aor% button on the steering wheel.
The multifunction display fades the display message out.
High-priority display messages are shown by the multifunction display in red. Some high-priority
display messages cannot be hidden.
The multifunction display shows these messages continuously until the causes for the messages
have been remedied. 170

Message memory
The on-board computer saves certain display messages in the
message memory. You can call up
the display messages:
X Use ò on the steering wheel to call up the list of menus.
X Press :or9 on the steering wheel to select the Service
Servicemenu.
X Confirm by pressing aon the steering wheel.
X Press :or9 to select the message memory.
If there are no display messages, the No messages
No messages display appears in the multifunction display
If there are display messages, the number of messages stored is shown.
X Press ato confirm.
X Press :or9 to scroll through the display messages. Display messages

For example, the on-board voltage may be insufficient.

functions listed above. The wheels could therefore lock if you brake
hard, for example.
The steerability and braking characteristics may be severely affected. The braking distance may increase in an emergency braking situation.
If ESP ®
is not operational, ESP ®
is unable to stabilise the vehicle.
There is an increased risk of skidding and/or accident.
X Drive on carefully.
Carefully drive on a suitable stretch of road, making slight steering
movements at a speed above 20 km/h.
If the display message disappears, the functions mentioned above
are available again.
If the multifunction display still shows the display message: X Drive on carefully.

A tone may also sound at regular intervals. If you attempt to lock the
vehicle, the tone becomes louder.
You cannot start the engine.
X Paying attention to the traffic situation, immediately depress the
brake pedal firmly and hold until the display message disappears.

!indicator lamp flashes and the yellow !warning lamp
is lit.
The electric parking brake is malfunctioning.
To release:
X Turn the ignition off and then back on.
X Release the electric parking brake manually.
To apply: X Turn the ignition off and then back on.
X Apply the electric parking brake manually.
If the red !indicator lamp continues to flash:
X Do not drive on.
X Secure the vehicle against rolling away (Y page 268).
X Shift the transmission to position P.
X Turn the front wheels towards the kerb.
X Consult a qualified specialist workshop. The yellow
!warning lamp lights up. The red !indicator lamp
flashes for about ten seconds after the electric parking brake has been applied or released. It then goes out or remains lit.
The electric parking brake is malfunctioning.
X Switch off the ignition and switch it back on.
X Apply the electric parking brake.
If you cannot apply the electric parking brake:
X Shift the transmission to position P.
X Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
If it is not possible to release the electric parking brake manually: X Release the electric parking brake automatically (Y page 121).
If the electric parking brake still cannot be released:
X Consult a qualified specialist workshop. Display

voltage or undervoltage.
X Rectify the cause of the overvoltage or undervoltage, e.g. by charg-
ing the battery or restarting the engine.
X Apply or release the electric parking brake.
If the electric parking brake still cannot be applied or released: X Switch off the ignition and switch it back on.
X Apply or release the electric parking brake.
If the electric parking brake still cannot be released: X Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
If the electric parking brake still cannot be applied:
X Consult a qualified specialist workshop. The yellow
!warning lamp lights up and the red !indicator
lamp flashes.
The electric parking brake cannot be applied manually.
X Shift the transmission to position P.

and traffic conditions. Do not continue driving.

Possible causes:
R the radar sensor system is temporarily inoperative, e.g. due to elec-
tromagnetic radiation emitted by nearby TV or radio stations or
other sources of electromagnetic radiation
R the system is outside the operating temperature range
R the on-board voltage is too low
Once the causes listed above no longer apply, the display message
disappears.
COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS is operational again.
If the display message does not disappear:
X Stop the vehicle, paying attention to road and traffic conditions.
X Secure the vehicle against rolling away (Y page 119).
