Timing starts for a new lap. The new lap is
timed from when the intermediate time is

Resetting the current lap
XPress the W button on the steering
wheel to stop the RACETIMER.XPress the X button to reset the lap time
to "0”.
Deleting all laps
You cannot delete individual stored laps.
XPress the W button on the steering
wheel to stop the RACETIMER.XPress and hold the X button for a
minimum of three seconds.XPress the W button to start the

Lap statistics
This function is only available if you have

Telephone menu
Introduction
You can establish a Bluetooth ®
connection to
COMAND ( Y page 183).
GWARNING
The driver's attention to the road must always
be his/her primary focus when driving. For
your safety and the safety of others, we
recommend that you pull over to a safe
location and stop before placing or taking a
telephone call. If you choose to use the
telephone while driving, please use the hands-
free device and only use the telephone when
road, weather and traffic conditions permit.
Some jurisdictions prohibit the driver from
using a mobile phone while driving a vehicle.
Bear in mind that at a speed of just 30 mph
(approximately 50 km/h), your vehicle covers
a distance of 44 feet (approximately 14 m)
every second.
XSwitch on the mobile phone and COMAND
( Y page 126).XPress the = or ; button on the
steering wheel to select the Telephone
menu.You will see one of the following display
messages in the multifunction display:
R Telephone ready or the name of the
network provider: the mobile phone has
found a network and is ready to receive.
R No Service : no network is available, or the
mobile phone is searching for a network.
Accepting a call
If someone calls you when you are in the
Telephone menu, a display message
appears in the multifunction display, for
example:
XPress the 6 button on the steering
wheel to accept an incoming call.
If you are not in the Telephone menu, you
can still accept a call.
Rejecting or ending a call
XPress the ~ button on the steering
wheel.
If you are not in the Telephone menu, you can
still reject or end a call.
Dialing a number from the phone book
You can use the mobile phone to enter new
telephone numbers into the phone book (see
COMAND) (Y page 191). If your mobile phone
is able to receive calls, you can search for and
dial a number from the phone book.
When you establish a Bluetooth ®
connection
to COMAND, COMAND reads in the phone
book of the mobile phone. This can take some
time.

While the on-board computer reads in the SIM
card:
R you can dial a telephone number from the
redial list ( Calls Dialed list).
R you can dial a telephone number from the
telephone book stored in COMAND.
R the multifunction display shows the
Reading data... display message below
the phone book entries.
When the multifunction display shows the
Updating data... display message,
COMAND has finished importing data. The
multifunction display then shows all the
phone book entries in COMAND and the
mobile phone.XPress the = or ; button on the
steering wheel to select the Telephone
menu.XPress the 9, : or a button to call
up the phone book.XPress the 9 or : button to select the
desired name.
To scroll rapidly, press and hold the :
or 9 button for longer than one second.
After skipping eight entries, the rapid scroll
speeds up.
Rapid scrolling stops when you release the
button or reach the end of the list.XIf only one telephone number is stored
for a name: press the 6 or a button
to start dialing.

XIf there is more than one number for a
particular name: press the 6 or a

Deactivating/activating ESP®GWARNING
Under no circumstances should you
deactivate ESP ®
when the ÷ ESP®
warning lamp in the instrument cluster
flashes. Proceed as follows:
R when driving off, apply as little throttle as
possible.
R while driving, ease up on the accelerator
pedal.
R adapt your speed to suit the prevailing road
and weather conditions.
Failure to observe these guidelines could
cause the vehicle to skid. ESP ®
cannot
prevent accidents resulting from excessive
speed.

XStart the engine.XPress = or ; on the steering wheel
to select the Assistance menu.XPress the 9 or : button to select
ESP .XPress the a button.XTo deactivate: press a again.
The å warning lamp in the instrument
cluster comes on.GWARNING
When the å ESP®
OFF warning lamp is lit,
ESP ®
is deactivated.
If the ÷ ESP®
warning lamp and the
å ESP®
OFF warning lamp remain lit,
ESP ®
is not available due to a malfunction.
When ESP ®
is deactivated or not operational,
vehicle stability in standard driving
maneuvers is reduced.
Adapt your speed and driving to the prevailing
road conditions and to the non-operating
status of the ESP ®
.
XTo activate: press a again.
The å warning lamp in the instrument
cluster goes out.
Activating/deactivating PRE-SAFE ®
Brake
PRE-SAFE ®
Brake is only available in vehicles
with DISTRONIC PLUS.
XPress the = or ; button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssist
menu.XPress 9 or : to select PRE-SAFE
Brake .XPress a.
The current selection is displayed.XTo activate/deactivate: press a
again.
When PRE-SAFE ®
Brake ( Y page 68) is
activated, the multifunction display shows
the Ä symbol as long as the HOLD
function is not activated ( Y page 308).
Activating/deactivating ATTENTION
ASSIST
XPress the = or ; button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssist
menu.XPress the 9 or : button to select
Attention Assist .XPress a.
The current selection is displayed.XTo activate/deactivate: press a
again.
When ATTENTION ASSIST ( Y page 321) is
activated, the À symbol appears in the
multifunction display when the ignition is on.
Activating/deactivating Active Blind
Spot Assist
You can use the Blind Spot Assist
function to activate or deactivate Active Blind
Spot Assist ( Y page 327).

Keeping Assist .XPress the a button.
The current selection is displayed.XTo activate/deactivate: press the a

When Active Lane Keeping Assist is activated,
the à symbol appears in the multifunction
display when the ignition is on.
Maintenance menu
In the Service menu, you have the following
options:
R calling up display messages ( Y page 352)
R checking the tire pressure electronically
( Y page 461)
R calling up a service due date
( Y page 426)
R checking the oil level ( Y page 421)
Settings menu
Introduction
The Settings menu can be used for:
R Switching the daytime running lamps on/
off
R switching Adaptive Highbeam Assist on/
off
R showing or hiding the additional
speedometer
R selecting the units for speed and distance
R activating/deactivating the radar sensor
system
Switching the daytime running lamps
on/off
This function is not available in Canada.
If you have activated the Daytime running
lights function and the light switch is in the
$ or c position, the daytime running
lamps are automatically switched on when
the engine is running.
Depending on the ambient light, the following
will additionally light up:
R parking lamps
R tail lamps
R license plate lamp
R side marker lamps
If you turn the light switch to a different
position, the corresponding lights are
switched on. If you switch off the daytime
running lamps at night, make sure that the
light switch is set to L or c .
The factory setting is On.

Switching the additional speedometer
on/off
An additional digital speedometer can be

Vehicles with a kilometer speedometer: the
digital speedometer has mph units.
Vehicles with a miles speedometer: the digital
speedometer has km/h units.

steering wheel to select the Settings

Selecting the unit of measurement for
distance
The Display Unit Speed-/Odometer:
function allows you to choose whether
certain displays appear in kilometers or miles.
The selected unit of measurement for
distance applies to:
R analog speedometers
R digital speedometers in the Trip menu
R odometer and the trip odometer
R Trip computer
R navigation instructions in the Navi menu
R DISTRONIC PLUS
R ASSYST PLUS service interval display
The digital speedometer shows alternative
speed units ( Y page 350).XPress the = or ; button on the
steering wheel to select the Settings

The unit switches km/h and mph.
Activating/deactivating the acoustic
locking verification signal
If you activate the Acoustic Lock Feedb.
function, an audible signal sounds depending
on the vehicle's date of manufacture:
R when locking

R once when unlocking and three times when
locking

Display messages
General notes
GWARNING
All categories of messages contain important information which should be taken note of and,
where a malfunction is indicated, addressed as soon as possible at an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.
Failure to repair the condition noted may cause damage not covered by the Mercedes-Benz
Limited Warranty, or result in property damage or personal injury.
Display messages appear in the multifunction display.
Display messages with graphic displays may be shown in simplified form in the Operator's
Manual and may differ from the messages shown in the multifunction display.
Please respond in accordance with the display messages and follow the additional notes in
this Operator's Manual.
Certain display messages are accompanied by an audible warning tone or a continuous tone.
When you stop and park the vehicle, please observe the notes on the HOLD function
( Y page 308) and parking ( Y page 289).
Hiding display messages
You can hide some display messages with a low priority.
XPress the a or % button on the steering wheel to hide the display message.
The display message is cleared.
Display messages with a low priority are shown in either yellow or white.
Display messages with a high priority are shown in red.
You cannot hide display messages of the highest priority. The multifunction display shows
these messages continuously until the causes for the messages have been remedied.
Message memory
The on-board computer saves certain display messages. You can call up the display messages
in the message memory .
XPress the = or ; button on the steering wheel and select the Service menu.
If there are display messages, the multifunction display shows, for example, 2 messages.XPress the 9 or : button to select the entry, e.g. 2 messages.XConfirm with a.XPress the 9 or : button to scroll through the display messages.
When the ignition is switched off, all display messages are deleted, apart from some high-
priority display messages. Once the causes of the high-priority display messages have been
rectified, the corresponding display messages are also deleted.

affected. The braking distance in an emergency braking situation
can increase.

is unable to stabilize the vehicle.
There is an increased risk of skidding and an accident.
XCarefully drive a suitable distance, making slight steering
movements at a speed above 12 mph (20 km/h).
If the display message disappears, the functions mentioned
above are available again.
If the display message continues to be displayed:
XDrive on carefully.XVisit a qualified specialist workshop.ABS, ESP ®
, BAS, PRE-SAFE ®
, the HOLD function and hill start
assist are temporarily unavailable.

STOP Car Too LowYou have pulled away while the vehicle level is still too low.
AIRMATIC sets the vehicle to the selected level after a short
period.XPull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.XSecure the vehicle against rolling away ( Y page 289).XWait until the display message disappears before pulling away.AIRMATIC is defective.
