SmartK ey.Remove anybulky keyrings before
insertin gthe SmartK eyinto theignition lock.
! Keep
theSmartK eyaway fromstrongmag-
netic fields. Otherwise, theremote control
funct ioncould beaffected.

not keep theSmartK eyinthe trunk .Otherwise, the

If you donot open thevehicle withinapprox-
imately 40seconds ofunlocking:
R the vehicle islocked again.

The SmartK eycent rally locks/un locks:
R the doors
R the trunk lid
R the fuel filler flap
The turn signals flashonce when unlocking and
three times whenlocking.
When thelocator lighting isactivated viathe
multimedia system,itlights upwhen itis dark
after thevehicle isunlocked withtheremote
cont rol;see Digital Operator's Manual.
You canalso setanaudib lesignal toconfirm
that thevehicle hasbeen locked. Theaudib le
signal canbeactivated anddeactivated using
the on-board computer (Ypage 190).
X To open thetrunk lidautom atically: press
and hold the0054 button untilthetrunk lid

gases suchascarbon monoxide.Exhaust
gases canenter thevehicle interiorifthe
trunk lidisopen when theengine isrunnin g,
especially ifthe vehicle isin motion .There isa
risk ofpoisoning.
Always switchoffthe engine beforeopening
the trunk lid.Never drivewiththetrunk lid

not secured sufficient ly,they could slip,tip
over orbe flung around andthereby hitvehicle
occupant s.There isarisk ofinjury, particu-
larly inthe event ofsudden braking orasud-
den change indirection .
Always storeobject sso that they cannotbe
flung around. Secureobjects,luggage or
loads against slipping ortipping beforethe
journey.

trunk lidswings upwards whenopened.
Therefore, makesurethatthere issufficient
clearance abovethetrunk lid.
The opening dimensions ofthe trunk lidcan be
found inthe "Vehicle data"section
(Y page 325).
You should preferably placeluggage orloads in
the trunk .Observe theloading guidelines
(Y page 239).
Do not leave theSmart Keyinthe trunk .You
could otherwise lockyourself out.
The trunk lidcan be:

R opened automatically frominside

reversing feature
On vehicles withanEASY-PA CKtailgate, the
tailgate isequipped withautomatic obstacle
recogn itionwithareversin gfeature. Ifasolid
object blocks orrestr ictsthetailgate whenauto-
matically openingorclosing, thisprocedure is
stopped. Ifthe tailgate isstopped duringthe
closing process, thetailgate automatically
opens againslightly. Theautomatic obstruction
detect ionwith reversin gfeature isonly anaid. It
is not asubstitut efor your atten tivenesswhen
opening andclosing thetailgate. 78

as the engine isrunning.
Starting procedurewith the Start/Stop
button The
Start/Stop buttoncanbeused tostart the

into theignitio nlock. TheStart/Stop button
must beinserted inthe ignitio nlock andthe
SmartKey mustbeinthe vehicl e.This mode for
starting theengine operatesindep endently of
the ECO start/stop automatic enginestartfunc-
tion.
You canstart theengine ifavali dSmartKey isin
the vehicl e.Switch offthe engine andalways
take theSmartKey withyouwhen leaving the vehicl
e,even ifyou only leaveitfor ashort time.
Pay attention tothe importa ntsafety notes.
