Opening /closing in an emergency
Fuel filler flap emergen cyrelease
1 Release key
2 Cover
6 Rem oveco ver 2from the right-hand
side trim inthe boot.
6 Turn release key 1clockwise to the
stop.
The fuel filler flap is unlocked and can
be opened from outside. If the sli
ding /tilting sunroof can no longer
be moved electrically, you can operate it
wi th a crank. The drive is located inthe
overhead control panel behind the interior
light.

6 Prise off cover 1witha scr ewdriver. 2
Release
6 Pull both release tabs 2in the direc-
tion of the arrow and remove the ove r-
head control panel. P80.20

Changing bulbs

Press the new bulb into the hol der and
screw it in clo ckwise.
6 Place the bulb holder in the lamp and
turn itclockwise.
Ch anging the dipped-beam or main- beam hea
dlamps
6 Switch off the lights.
6 Open the bonnet ( =pa ge 244).
6 Turn appropr iate ho using cover 1or
2 anti- cloc kw ise and remove it.
6 Turn bulb holder 4or5 anti-clock-
wi se along with the bul band remove
the hol der.
6 Pull the bulb out of the bulb holder by
the base plate (not the glass bulb). 6
Insert the new bulb so that the base
plate:
!fits in the recess on the bulb holder
and
! lies level on the bulb holder
6 Place the bulb hol der in the lamp and
turn it clockwise.
6 Refit the appropriate housing cover
and turn it clockwise. Cha
nging the sid eand parking lamps
6 Switch off the lights.
6 Open the bonnet (= page 244).
6 Turn housing cover 2anti-clockwise
and rem ove it.
6 Remove bulb holder 6along with the
bulb. 6
Turn the bulb gently anti-clockwise and
remove it from the holder.
6 Insert the new bulb into the holder and
turn it clockwise.
6 Replac ethe housing cover and let the
tabs lock into place.
6 Refit the appropriate housing cover
and turn it clockwise.

vehicle. These tyres are specially suite dto your
vehicle's control systems, such as ABS or ESP.
Mercedes-Benz can accept no responsibility for
damage resulting from using tyr esother than
tho seapprove dfor your vehicle. You may obtain
further information about tyres fro many
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. !
If you use tyres other tha nth ose which have
been tested and rec ommendedbyMe rcedes-
Benz, characteristics su chas handling, noise lev-
el sa nd fuel consumption could be adver selyaf-
fe ct ed. Moreover, dimensional variations and
different tyre deformation characterist ics when
ru nn ingunder load could cause the tyre to make
co ntact with the bodywork or axle components.
The con sequence could be damage to the tyre or
to th evehicle. i
You may obtain further information about
tyres and wheels from any Mercede s-Be nz Serv-
ice Centre.
You will find a table of tyre pre ssures on the in-
side of the vehicle's fuel filler flap. You will find

A- pillar
Front structural pillar connecting the
roof and body (->B-pillar, ->C-pillar).
ABS (a nti-lock b rak
ing s ystem)
Prevents the wheels from locking un-
der braking. ->Steerability isthus main-
tained.
ASR (Acceleratio nskid control)
Component of ->ESP. ASR controls the
drive force to the wheels and thereby
improves ->traction.
ASSYST (A ctive S ervice Syst em)
Service indicator ofthe ->operating
system which displays when the next
service is due.
Asymmetric aldipped-beam headlamps
Po sition of the dipped-beam head-
lamps which directs the light towards
the edg eof the carriageway. Audi
o20*, Audio 50 APS* system
Nam eused to describe your vehicle's
radio and the built- inloudspeakers.
The system may also include na viga-
tion software, depending on your vehi-
cle's equipment.
B-pillar There is no B-pillar on Cabriolet and
Coupé models for design reasons.
Ball coupling* Holder on the vehicle; part of the trailer
tow hitch on the vehic leto which a trail-
er canbe hitched up.
BAS (B rake As sist)
System for shortening the stopping dis-
tance in hazardous situations, activat-
ed by the driver depressing the brake
pedal suddenly. The system boosts the
braking force. Belt drive
Drive connection from the engine to
associated assemblie ssuch as the al-
ternator or the air-cond itioning com-
pressor.
Bi-xenon headlamps* ->Xenon headlamps inwhich the
di pp ed beam and main beam are pro-
duced by a single light source.
Bulb Artificial ligh tsource.
C-p illar
The C-pillar is the rear structural pillar
connecting the roof and body (->A-pil-
lar, ->B-pillar). There is no C-pillar on
Ca briolet models for design reasons.
