The swi tch for adjusting the seat electri-
cally is on the door trim.
6 Turn the key to position 1in the igni-
tion lock ,press the KEYLESS GO but-
ton once or open the appropriate door.

wards in the direction of the arrow.

direction of the arrow.
Backrest angle 6 Slide switch 3forward sor backwards
in the direction of the arrow.

direction of the arrow until your thighs
are lightly supported. Head restraint

ally by pulling or pushing the bottom of

Folding the front-seat backrests for-
wards and backward s/easy-e ntry feature
1 Seat release
i Toallow rear passengers toent erand exit
com fortab ly, the seat moves forwards when you
fold the bac kres t forwards if the seat isin the
rear half of its adjustment range.
On vehicl eswith electric seat adjustment*, the
head restraint also lowers autom atically. Fol
ding the backrest forwards
6 Pull seat release 1forwa rds and fold
the backrest forwards.
On vehicles with manual seat adjustment:
6 Release the head restraint if necessary
and press it down.
Fol ding the backrest back
6 Fold the backr est back until the seat
and backrest engage.
On vehicles with manual seat adjustment:
6 Adjust the head restraint to the correct
position again if necessary.
You will find further information in the
"Controls in detail" section ( =page 90). You can adjust the steering wheel either
manually or electrically*, depending on
your vehicle's equipment.
! Only adjust the stee ring wheel whe nthe
ve hicle isstationary and do not pull away until
the ste ering whe elis locked in position.
If you pul laway before th esteering wheel adjust-
ment mechanism is locked in position, you could
be br iefly distracte dby the steering wheel mov-
in g unexpec tedly.
However ,the steerability of the vehicle is not

wheel manually.
When doing so, make sure that:
! you can hold the steering wheel
with your arms sli ghtly bent
! your legs can mov efreely
! you can see all displ ays in the

To lock the steering co lumn, push han-
dle 1in fully until you hear it click into
place.
The steering wheel position is locked
again.

Make sure that the ignition isswitched
on.
All the lamps in the instrument cluster
light up.

column.

The seat belt extender for the driver and
front passenger makes iteasier for you to
put on the seat belt.
1 Seat belt extender
The seat belt extender extends when you
close the appropriate door and turn the
key to position 1or 2in the ig nition lock. The seat belt extender sli
des back again if
you:
! engage the belt tongue inthe seat belt
buc kle
! do not engage the belt tongue in the
seat belt buckle within 30 seconds
! open the respective door
! turn the key to position 0in the ignition
lock
! unlock or fold the backrest forwards

ins trument clus terlights up.
6 As soon as the qpreglow indicator
lamp has gone out, turn the key in the
ignition lock to position 3and release it
as soon as the engine isrunning.
i Ifth e engine is already at operating temper-
ature, you can star tit without preglow. Starting the engine with KEYLESS GO*
You may start your
vehicle with no key in
the ignition lock using the KEYLESS GO
button on the selector lever. Yo
u can start the vehicle with no key in the
ignition lock using the KEYLESS GO button
on the selector lever, as long as the
KE YLE SSGO keyis in the vehicle.

this reason, children should never be left

engine up qui ckly.
6 Do not run the eng ine at full speed until
it has reached operating temperature.
1 Release handle 6
Depress the brake pedal and keep it in
this position.
6 Release the parking brake. To do this,
pull release handle 1.
The 3 indicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster goes out. !
Only select reverse gear when the vehicle is
stationary, otherwis eyou could damage the
transmission.
Do no tdrive at high engine speeds ifthe engine
is cold. This protects the engine.
i Thevehicle locks itsel fcentrally once you
have pulled away. The locking knobs in the do ors
drop do wn.
You can open the doors from the inside at any
time.
You may also switch off the automatic door lock-

6 Slowly release the clutch pedal and
carefully depress the accelerator.
! Change gear in good time. Make sure that
the enginespe eddoes notreach thered area in
the rev cou nter. There is otherwise a danger of
engine dam age.
Do not allow the wheels tospin, ifpossible. You
could otherwise damage the dri vetrain. Automatic
transmission*
i You can only move the selector lever tothe
re quired position by depressing the brake pedal.
Only then isthe selector lever lock disabled.
6 Depress the brake pedal and keep it in
this posi tion.
The selector lever lock is released.
6 Release the parking brake.
6 Move the selector lever to position D

i Wait for the shi ftprocess to complete
before pulling away.
6 Release the brake pedal.
6 Carefully depress the accelerator
pe dal.
i After a cold start, the automatic transmi s-
sion will shift at a higher engine spe ed. This helps
th e catalytic converter toreach its operati ng

Parking and locking
You have now completed your first trip.
You have stop ped your vehicle and have
parked properly. End your trip as follows.
i When yo u close a door, thewindows on the
same sid eclose.
On steep slopes, turn the front wheels towards
the kerbside. 1Parkin g brake
6 Depress parking brake 1firml y.
