Variable Speedtronic is deactivated.
The LIM indicator lamp goes out.
Cruise control or Distronic* is
selected.
Variab leSpeedtronic is deactivated auto-
matically:
! if yo udep ress the acceler ator pedal
beyond the pressure point (kickdown)
! and, atthe sam etime, your current
driv ing sp eed differs from the stored
speed by no more than 20 km /h Permanent Speedtronic

You can use the operating system to limit
the speed permanently to a value between
160 km /h(e.g. for driving on winter tyres)
an d the maximum speed.
If you wish to use Speedtronic to set a
speed limit for dr iving with winter tyres,
you must:
! deactivat ethe key-dependent pro-
gram ming (
=page 130)
or ! set the same speed limit for all keys
1O nly applies to the Fede ral Republic ofGe rmany It
is only possible to set or clear permanent
Speedtronic when the vehicle is stat ionary.
Permanent Speedtronic rema ins activ ated,
even if var iable Speedtronic is deactivated.
The stored speed is shown in the multi-
function displa yshortly before this speed
is reached.
You can not exceed the stored speed limit,
even if you depress the accelerator pedal
beyond the pressure point (kickdown).
Setting permanent Speedtronic
6 Make sure that the ignition is switched
on.
6 Press the èorÿ button repeat-
edly until you see theSettingsmenu in
the multi-function display

Care Cleaning the headlamps

Wipe the headlamp lenses with a wet
sponge.
! Only use windscreen washer fluid which is
suitable for plasti clamp lenses. Unsuitable wind-
screen washer fluid could damage the plastic
lamp lenses of the headlamps .You must not
th er efore use a dry cloth ,sco uring agents, sol-
vents or solvent-b ased cle aning agents. You
could otherwise scratch or damage the surface
of the lens. Cl

Turn the ignition key to 0before clean-
in g.
6 Clean radiator grille cover 1with
water, shampoo and a soft cloth.
! Do not usedry,co ars eor hard cloths and do
no tscrub. Otherwise, you will scratch or damage
th e se nsors.
6 Restart your vehicle after it has been
cleaned. Cle
aning Parktronic*
The sensors are located in the front and
rear bumpers.

Clean the sensors on the bumpers us-
ing water, shampoo and a soft cloth.
! Do not use dry, coarse or hard cloths and do
not scrub. Othe rwise, you will scratch or damage
the sensors. If youare cleaning the sensors with
a high-pressure or steam cleaner, direct it only
briefly at the sensors, maintaining a distance of

Technical terms
Distronic* System which helps the driver to keep
to a pre-selected speed on motorways
and major roads:
! If there is no vehicl ein front, the
system operates inthe same way
as ->crui secon trol.
! If a vehicle is detected ahead,
Distronic automatically adjusts the
speed of the vehicle so that you al-
ways maintain the set minimum dis-
tance to the vehicle in front.
Draught stop Screen behin ddriver's seat and pas-

interference fields, such as transmit-
ters, radar systems, overhead power
