!If the battery has been excessively
discharged, the parking lamps or standing

when Adaptive Highbeam Assist is active,

Hazard warning lamps

All turn signals flash. If you now switch on
aturn signal using the combination switch,
only the turn signal lamp on the
corresponding side of the vehicle will flash.
XTo switch off the hazard warning
lamps:press button .
The hazard warning lamps automatically
switch on if:
Ran air bag is deployed
Rthe vehicle decelerates rapidly from a
speed of more than 45 mph (70 km/h) and
comes toastandstill
The hazard warning lamps switch off
automatically if the vehicle reachesaspeed
of over6mph (10 km/h) again afterafull
brake application.
iThe hazard warning lamps still operate if
the ignition is switched off.
Headlampcleaning system
The headlamps are cleaned automatically if
the "Wipe with washer fluid" function is
operated five times (Ypage 125)while the
lightsare on and the engineisrunning. When
you switchoff the ignition, the automatic
headlamp cleaning systemisreset and
counting is resumed from 0.

Interior lighting control
General notes
In order to prevent the vehicle's battery from
discharging, the interior lighting functions are
automatically deactivated after some time
unless the SmartKey is in position2in the
ignitionlock.
The color and brightness of the ambient
lighting may be set using the on-board
computer (Ypage 231).

Rremove the SmartKey from the ignition lock
The interior light is activated forashort while
when the SmartKey is removed from the
ignition lock. You can activatethis delayed
switch-off using the on-board computer
(Ypage 232).

Replacing bulbs

Xenon bulbs
GDANGER
Xenon bulbs carryahigh voltage. You can get
an electric shock if you remove the cover of
the Xenon bulb and touch the electrical
contacts. There isarisk of fatal injury.
Never touch the parts or the electrical
contacts of the Xenon bulb. Always have work
on the Xenon bulbs carried out ataqualified
specialist workshop.
Bulbs and lamps are an importantaspect of
vehicle safety. You must therefore make sure
that these function correctly at all times.
Have the headlamp setting checked regularly.
LED lamps
You can neither replace Xenon bulbsnor LED
bulbs. Have LED bulbschanged ataqualified
specialist workshop.

Depending on the equipment level of your
vehicle, there aretwo variants of wiperblade;
these are installed and removed in different
ways. Based on the diagrams,checkwhich
system is installed in your vehicle.
Changing the wiper blades (version 1)
Removing the wiper blades
XRemove the SmartKey from the ignition
lock or turn it to position0(KEYLESS-GO).
XFold the wiper arm away from the
windshield until it engages.
XSet the wiper blade at right angles to the
wiper arm.
XRemove the wiper blade from the retaining
pin on the wiper arm in the direction of the
arrow.
Installing the wiper blades
XPush the new wiper blade onto the
retaining pin on the wiper arm in the
opposite direction to the arrow.
Make sure that the wiper blade slides fully
onto the retaining pin on the wiper arm.
XTurn the wiper blade parallel to the wiper
arm.
XFold the wiper arm back onto the
windshield.

Removing the wiper blades
XRemove the SmartKey from the ignition
lock or turn it to position0(KEYLESS-GO).
XFold the wiper arm away from the
windshield until it engages.
XFirmly press release knob and pull the
wiper blade upwards from the wiper arm in
the direction of the arrow.
Installing the wiper blades
XPosition the new wiper blade in the retainer
on the wiper arm and slide it into place in
the opposite direction from the arrow.
The wiper blade audibly engages.
XMake sure that wiper blade is seated
correctly.
XFold the wiper arm back onto the
windshield.

Leaves or snow, for example, may be obstructing the windshield

XRemove the cause of the obstruction.
XSwitch the windshield wipers back on.

Information aboutusing 3-zone
automatic climate control
Automatic climate control
The 3-zone automatic climate control is only
available on vehicles for Canada.
The following contains instructions and
recommendations to enable you to get the
most out of your automatic climate control.
RActivate climate control using the \rand
buttons. The indicatorlamps above
the \rand buttons light up.
RIn automatic mode, you can also use the
buttontosetaclimate mode
(FOCUS/MEDIUM/DIFFUSE). The
MEDIUM levelisrecommended.
RSet thetemperaturetof72‡(22 †).
ROnly use the"Windshield defrosting"
function briefly until thewindshield is clear
again.
ROnly use air-recirculation modebriefly, e.g.
if there are unpleasantoutside odorsor
when inatunnel. The windows could
otherwise fog up, since no fresh air is drawn
intothevehicleinair-recirculation mode.
RUse theZONEfunction to adopt the
temperature settingsonthedriver's side
for the front-passenger side and the rear
compartment as well. The indicatorlamp
above the button goes out.
RUse the residual heat function if you want
to heat or ventilate the vehicle interior
when the ignition is switched off. The
residual heat function can only be activated
or deactivated with the ignition switched
off.
RVehicles with COMAND Multimedia-
System:if you change the settings of the
climate control system, the climate status
displayappears for approximately three
seconds at the bottom of the screen in the
COMAND display. See also the separate
COMAND operating instructions. You will
see the current settings of the various
climate control functions.
ECO start/stop function
During automatic engine switch-off,the ECO
start/stop function only operates at a
reduced capacity. If you require the full
climate control output, you can switch off the
ECO start/stop function by pressing the ECO
button (Ypage 152).

Points to observe before use
When the climate control is switched off, the
air supply and air circulation are also
switched off. The windows could fog up.
Therefore, switch off climate control only
briefly
iActivate climate control primarily using
the \rbutton (Ypage 137).
Activating/deactivating
XTurn the SmartKey to position2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 147).
XTo switch on:press the \rbutton on
the control panel for the climate control.
The indicator lamp in the \rbutton lights
up. Airflow and air distribution are set to
automatic mode.

XPress the button.
The indicator lamp in the button goes
out. The previously selected settings are
restored.
XTo switch off:press the button.
The indicator lamp in the button lights
up.

Problems with the "Cooling with air dehumidification" function

malfunction.

Setting climate control to automatic
Points to observe before use
In automatic mode, the set temperature is
maintained automatically ataconstant level.
The system automatically regulates the
temperature of the dispensed air, the airflow
and the air distribution.
The automatic mode functions optimally
when the "Cooling with air dehumidification"
function is activated. If necessary, cooling
with air dehumidification can be deactivated.
If you deactivate the "Cooling with air-
dehumidification" function, the air inside the
vehicle will not be cooled. The air inside the
vehicle will also not be dehumidified. The
windows can fog up more quickly. Therefore,
deactivate the cooling with air-
dehumidification function only briefly.
Activating/switching
XTurn the SmartKey to position2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 147).
XSet the desired temperature.
XTo activate:press the \rbutton.
The indicator lamp in the \rbutton lights
up. Automatic air distribution and airflow
are activated.
i3-zone automatic climate control: when
automatic mode is activated, you can
selectaclimate mode (Ypage 137).
XTo switch to manualmode:press the
button.
or
XPress the or button.
The indicator lamp in the \rbutton goes
out.
Adjusting the climate mode settings
The "Set climate mode" function is only
available with 3-zone automatic climate
control.
You can select the following climate mode
settings in automatic mode:
FOCUS high airflow that is set slightly
cooler
MEDIUM medium airflow, standard setting
DIFFUSE low airflow that is set slightly
warmer and with less draft
XTurn the SmartKey to position2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 147).
XPress the \rbutton.
XPress the button repeatedly until the
desired climate mode appears in the
display.

driver's and front-passenger sides.
XTurn the SmartKey to position2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 147).
XTo increase/reduce:turn temperature
control or %clockwise or counter-
clockwise (Ypage 131).
Only change the temperature settingin

3-zone automatic climate control

for the driver's and front-passenger sides as
well as for the rear compartment.
XTurn the SmartKey to position2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 147).

the front compartment:turn temperature
control or %clockwise or counter-
clockwise (Ypage 134).
Only change the temperature settingin
small increments. Start at 72‡(22 †).
XTo increase/reduce the temperature in
the rear compartment using the front
control panel:press the button.

counter-clockwise (Ypage 134).
Only change the temperature settingin

The temperature settingfor the driver's
side is adopted for the rear compartment
and the front-passenger side.

the rear compartment using the rear
control panel:press the or
button on the rear control panel.
