Resonance noises can occur in addition to th e
usual airflow noises when th e sliding sunroo f is
open . The y are caused by minor pressur e fluc -
tuation s in th e vehicl e interior. Change th e posi-
tion of th e sliding sunroo f or open a side window
slightly to reduce or eliminate these noises .
Sliding sunroof reversing feature The sliding sunroo f is equipped wit h an auto -
matic reversing feature. If a soli d objec t blocks
or restrict s th e sliding sunroo f during th e closin g
process, th e sliding sunroo f open s again auto -
matically. However, th e automatic reversing
feature is only an aid and is no t a substitut e for
your attentiveness when closin g th e sliding sun -
roof.

Problems with the sliding sunroof
G WARNING
If you close the sliding sunroof again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the sliding
sunroof closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing feature is then not active. Parts
of the body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an increased risk of
injury or even fatal injury.
Make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area.
If somebody becomes trapped: R
release the switch immediately, or R
press the switch in any direction during the automatic closing process
The closing process is stopped.
! If the sliding sunroof still cannot be opened or closed as a result of a malfunction, contact a
qualified specialist workshop.

Automatic anti-glare mirrors

Electrolyte may escape if th e glass in an auto -
matic anti-glare mirror breaks . The electrolyt e
is harmful and causes irritation . It must no t
come int o contact wit h your skin, eyes, res -
piratory organs or clothing or be swallowed.
Ther e is a ris k of injury.
If you come int o contact wit h th e electrolyte,
observ e th e following: R
Rins e off th e electrolyt e from your skin
immediately wit h water.R
Immediately rinse th e electrolyt e out of
your eyes thoroughly wit h clean water.R

Mirrors
Seats, steering wheel and mirrors

Only use the memory function on the driver's
side when the vehicle is stationary.
G WARNING
Children could become trapped if they acti-
vate the memory function, particularly when
unattended. There is a risk of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children unsupervised in the vehicle.
G WARNING
When the memory function adjusts the seat or
steering wheel, you and other vehicle occu-
pants – particularly children – could become
trapped. There is a risk of injury.
While the memory function is making adjust-
ments, make sure that no one has any body
parts in the sweep of the seat or steering
wheel. If somebody becomes trapped, imme-
diately release the memory function position
button. The adjustment process is stopped.
The memory function can be used at any time,
e.g. even when the SmartKey isn't in the ignition
lock.
With the memory function, you can store up to
three different settings, e.g. for three different
people.
The following settings are stored as a single
memory preset: R
position of the seat, backrest and head
restraint R
active multicontour seat: seat contour,
dynamic function level R
driver's side: position of the exterior mirrors
on the driver's and front-passenger sides X

Press memory button M and one of the stor-
age position buttons 1 , 2 or 3 within three
seconds.
The settings are stored in the selected preset
position. A tone sounds when the settings
have been completed.

button 1 , 2 or 3 , until the seat, steering wheel
and exterior mirrors are in the stored position.

Memory function
Seats, steering wheel an d mirrors

The evaluation of your driving style is carried out
using the following three categories: R
Acceleration (evaluation of all acceleration
processes): -
The bar fills up: moderate acceleration,
especially at higher speeds -
The bar empties: sporty acceleration R
Constant (assessment of driving behavior at
all times): -
The bar fills up: constant speed and avoid-
ance of unnecessary acceleration and
deceleration -
The bar empties: fluctuations in speed R
Coasting (assessment of all deceleration
processes): -
The bar fills up: anticipatory driving, keep-
ing your distance and early release of the
accelerator. The vehicle can coast without
use of the brakes. -
The bar empties: frequent braking
i An economical driving style specially
requires driving at moderate engine speeds.
To achieve a higher value in the categories
Acceleration and Constant :R
observe the gearshift recommendations. R
drive in drive program E .
i On long journeys at a constant speed, e.g.
on the highway, only the bar for Constant will
change.
i The ECO display summarizes the driving
characteristics from the start of the journey to
its completion. For this reason, the bars
change dynamically at the beginning of the
journey. On longer journeys, there are fewer
changes. For more dynamic changes, carry
out a manual reset.

Braking
Important safety notes
G WARNING
If you shift down on a slippery road surface in
an attempt to increase the engine's braking
effect, the drive wheels could lose their grip. There is an increased danger of skidding and
accidents.
Do not shift down for additional engine brak-
ing on a slippery road surface.
Downhill gradients
! On long and steep gradients, you must
reduce the load on the brakes by shifting to a
lower gear in good time. This allows you to
take advantage of the engine's braking effect.
This helps you to avoid overheating the
brakes and wearing them out excessively.
When you take advantage of engine braking, a
drive wheel may not turn for some time, e.g.
on a slippery road surface. This could cause
damage to the drive train. This type of damage
is not covered by the Mercedes-Benz war-
ranty.
Do not depress the brake pedal continuously
while the vehicle is in motion, e.g. causing the
brakes to rub by constantly applying light pres-
sure to the pedal. This results in excessive and
premature wear to the brake pads.
Change into a lower gear in good time on long
and steep downhill gradients. This is especially
important if the vehicle is laden.
Heavy and light loads
G WARNING
If you rest your foot on the brake pedal while
driving, the braking system can overheat. This
increases the stopping distance and can even
cause the braking system to fail. There is a
risk of an accident.
Never use the brake pedal as a footrest. Never
depress the brake pedal and the accelerator
pedal at the same time.
! Depressing the brake pedal constantly
results in excessive and premature wear to
the brake pads.
If the brakes have been subjected to a heavy
load, do not stop the vehicle immediately, but
drive on for a short while. This allows the airflow
to cool the brakes more quickly.150

vehicle, the remaining time or distance until the
next service due date is displayed.
The letter A or B , possibly in connection with a
number or another letter, indicates the type of
service. A stands for a minor service and B for a

The ASSYST PLUS service interval display does
not take into account any periods of time during
which the battery is disconnected.

has been inadvertently reset, this setting can
be corrected at a qualified specialist work-
shop.
Have service work carried out as described in
the Maintenance Booklet. This may otherwise
lead to increased wear and damage to the
major assemblies or the vehicle.
A qualified specialist workshop, e.g. an author-
ized Mercedes-Benz Center, will reset the
ASSYST PLUS service interval display after the
service work has been carried out. You can also
obtain further information on maintenance
work, for example.
Special service requirements The specified maintenance interval takes only
the normal operation of the vehicle into
account. Under arduous operating conditions or
increased load on the vehicle, maintenance
work must be carried out more frequently, for
example: R
regular city driving with frequent intermediate
stops R
if the vehicle is primarily used to travel short
distances R
use in mountainous terrain or on poor road
surfaces R
if the engine is often left idling for long periods
Under these or similar conditions, have, for
example, the air filter, engine oil and oil filter
replaced or changed more frequently. Under
arduous operating conditions, the tires must be
checked more often. Further information can be
obtained at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g.
an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.
