Overview of climate control systems
Notes on climate control
An interior airfilter must always be used sothatthe air conditioning system, pollution level moni‐toring andthe airfiltering functionworkcor‐rectly. Makesurethatthefilter is installed cor‐rectly andthefilter housing inthe engine com‐partment is closed correctly usingthe cap andalways tightly sealed when in operation. Usefil‐tersrecommended and approvedbyMercedes-Benz. Always haveserviceworkcarried out at aqualified specialistworkshop.
Overview ofthe control panelfor dual-zoneautomatic climate control
The indicator lamps onthe buttons indicatethatthe corresponding function is activated.

Applying/releasingthe electric parkingbrake manually
Applying
Push handle1.Thered I(USA) or $(Canada) indica‐tor lamp appears inthe instrument cluster.
The electric parking brake is only securelyapplied ifthe indicator lamp is lit continu‐ously.
Releasing
Switchonthe ignition.
Pull handle1.Thered I(USA) or $(Canada) indica‐tor lamp inthe instrument cluster goes out.
Emergency braking Press and hold handle1.Whenthevehicle has been brakedto astandstill,the electric parking brake isapplied. Thered I(USA) or $(Can‐ada) indicator lamp appears inthe instru‐ment cluster.
Notes on parkingthevehiclefor anextendedperiod
Ifyou leavethevehicle parkedfor longerthanfourweeks,the disconnected battery may bedamagedbydeep discharge.
Ifyou leavethevehicle parkedfor longerthan sixweeks, it may suffer disuse damage.

Standby mode (extension of thestarter bat‐tery's period out of use)
Standby mode function
This function is notavailablefor all models.
Ifstandby mode is activated,thevehicle can beparkedfor anextended period of time withoutlosing power.
Standby mode ischaracterizedbythefollowing:
RThestarter battery is preserved.
RThe maximum non-operational time out ofuse is displayed inthe multimedia systemdisplay.
RThe connectiontoonline services is interrup‐ted.

When givingstarting assistance, alwaysmake surethatyou onlyconnect bat‐teryterminals with identical polarity.
Duringstarting assistance,you mustobservethe described orderfor con‐necting and disconnectingthe jumpercables.
Do not connect or disconnectthe bat‐teryclamps whilethe engine isrunning.
\nWARNINGRisk ofexplosion duringcharging process andstarting assistance
Duringthecharging process andstartingassistance,the battery mayrelease anexplo‐sivegas mixture.
Avoidfire, openflames, creating sparksand smoking.
Make surethatthere is sufficientventi‐lation duringthecharging process andduringstarting assistance.
Do not leanover a battery.
\nWARNINGRisk ofexplosion from a fro‐zen battery
A discharged battery may freeze attempera‐tures slightly aboveor below freezing point.
Duringstarting assistance or batterycharg‐ing, batterygas may bereleased.
Alwaysthawa frozen batteryoutfirstbeforecharging it or performingstart‐ing assistance.
Ifthe indicator/warning lamps inthe instrumentcluster do not light up at lowtemperatures, it isverylikelythatthe discharged battery has fro‐zen. Inthis caseyou may neither jump-startthevehicle norchargethe battery.
The service life of a batterythat has beenthawed may be dramatically shortened. Thestartingcharacteristics may be impaired, espe‐cially at lowtemperatures.
It isrecommendedthatyou haveathawed bat‐terychecked at aqualified specialistworkshop.
Allvehicles
NOTEDamagecausedbynumerous orextended attemptstostartthe engine
Numerous orextended attemptstostarttheengine may damagethe catalytic converterduetonon-combusted fuel.
Avoid numerous andextended attemptstostartthe engine.
Observethefollowing points duringstartingassistance and whenchargingthe battery:
ROnly use undamaged jumper cables/charg‐ing cables with a sufficient cross-section andinsulatedterminal clamps.
RNon-insulated parts oftheterminal clampsmust not come into contact withother metalparts whilethe jumper cable/charging cableis connectedtothe battery/jump-startcon‐nection point.
RThe jumper cable/charging cable must notcome into contact withany parts which maymovewhenthe engine isrunning.

The tire pressure losswarning system does notreplacethe needtoregularlycheckthe tire pres‐sure.
System limitations
The system may be impaired or may not functionparticularlyinthefollowing situations:
RIncorrectly set tire pressure
RSudden pressure loss caused,forexample,byaforeign object penetratingthe tire
RSteady pressure loss in several tires
The system has arestricted or delayed functionparticularly inthefollowing situations:
RPoor ground conditions, e.g. snow or gravel
RDriving withsnowchains
RWhen adopting averysporty drivingstylewith high cornering speeds or sudden accel‐eration
RDriving with a high load
Be suretoalso observethefollowing furtherrelated subjects:

RDisplay messages aboutthe tires(→page 460)
Restartingthe tire pressure losswarningsystem
Requirements:RTherecommended tire pressure is correctlysetfortherespective operatingstatus oneach ofthefour wheels (→page 386).
Restartthe tire pressure losswarning system inthefollowing situations:
RThe tire pressure haschanged.
RThe wheels or tires havebeenchanged ornewly installed.

The system may detect objects orforcesthat are addingtotheweight appliedtothe seat.
\nWARNINGRisk of injuryorfatal injury when using achildrestraint system whilethe front passenger air bagis enabled
Ifyou secure achild in achildrestraint system onthe front passenger seat andthe front passenger air bag isenabled,the front passenger air bag can deploy intheevent of an accident.
