WARNING Risk of inju rydue tohead
re stra ints which are not fitted or are
adjus ted incor rectly
If head restra ints are not fitted or are adjus‐
te d incor rectl y,they cannot pr ovide pr otec‐
tion as intended.
There is an increased risk of injury in the
head and neck area, e.g. in theeve nt of an
accident or when braking. #
Alw ays drive with the head restra ints
fi tted. #
Before driving off, ma kesure forev ery
ve hicle occupant that the cent reofthe
head restra int supports the back of the
head at about eye le vel. Do not inter
change the head restra ints of the
front and rear seats. Otherwise, you will not be
able toadjust the height and angle of the head
re stra ints cor rectl y.
Ad just the head restra int fore -and-aft position so
th at it is as close as possible tothe back of your
head. #
Toraise: pullthe head restra int up. #
Tolowe r:press release knob 1and push
th e head restra int down. #
Tomo veforw ards: pullthe head restra int
fo rw ards. #
Tomo vebackwards: pressrelease knob 1
and push the head restra int backwards. 104

If necessar y,release the head restra int and
push it down. #
Pull the seat release handle 1and fold the
seat backrest forw ards until the seat back‐
re st engages. #
Push the seat as farfo rw ards as it will go. Fo
lding back #
Push the seat back horizon tally by the seat
backrest until it reaches the seat position
th at wa s pr eviously set. #
Foldthe seat backrest back until it engages.
Do so as smoo thly as possible.
If th e seat backrest is not engaged, this will
be shown on the multifunction display of the
instrument clus ter.A wa rning tone will also
sound. #
Afterth e seat backrest has been folded
bac k,check the position of the head restra int
and set it tothe cor rect position.
If th e set seat position can no longer be reached,
e.g. because of luggage in there ar foot we ll or
af te r occupants ha veentered there ar of the
ve hicle: #
Pull the seat release handle 1again and
re turn the seat backrest toan upright posi‐
tion.
The seat will lock in the new fore -and-aft

edly switching on the seat heater
Re peatedly switching on the seat heater can
cause the seat cushion and seat backrest
padding tobecome very hot.
The health of persons with limited temp era‐
ture sensitivity or a limited ability toreact to
high temp eratures may be af fected or they
may even su ffer burn-like injuries. #
Do not repeatedly switch on the seat
heater. *

objects or documents when the seat
heater is switched on When
the seat heater is switched on, over‐
heating can occur due toobjects or docu‐
ments placed on the seats e.g. seat cushions
or child seats. This could cause damage to

If all indicator lamps are off, the seat ventila‐

heating output from AIRSCARF being too
high
When AIRSCARF is switched on, very hot air
can flow from the outlet opening in the head
re stra ints.
This could result in burns in the immediate
vicinity of the outlet opening. #
Turn the heating output down in good
time. #
Maintain a suitable dis tance from the
outlet opening. Re
quirements:
R the po wer supp lyis switched on AIRSCARF
warmsth e head and neck area of
ve hicle occupants with warm air. The warm air
fl ow s out of theve nts in the head restra ints. #
Toswitch on/increase the le vel:press but‐
to n1 repeatedly until the desired heating
le ve l is set.
Depending on the heating le vel, up tothree
indicator lamps will light up. Seats and

Toswitch off/reduce the le vel:press but‐
to n1 repeatedly until the desired heating
le ve l is set.
If all the indicator lamps are off, AIRSCARF is
switched off.
% When switching on, the blo wer will start up
on lyafte r a preheating phase lasting a few
seconds.
Af ter switching off, the blo wer will continue
to runfo r a few seconds tocool down the
heating elements.
% Ifth eve hicle battery voltage is too lo w,AIR‐
SCARF may switch off. #

R ifyo u adjust the driver's seat, the head
re stra ints, thesteering wheel or the mir‐
ro r while theve hicle is in motion
R ifyo ufast enyour seat belt while theve hi‐
cle is in motion #
Before starting the engine: adjust the
driver's seat, the head restra ints, the
st eering wheel or the mir ror and fasten
yo ur seat belt. &
WARNING Risk of entrapment forch il‐
dren when adjusting thesteering wheel
Children could injure themselves if they
adjust thesteering wheel. #
Never lea vechildren unat tended in the
ve hicle. #
When leaving theve hicle, alw aysta ke

When the easy entry andexitfeature adjusts
th esteering wheel and the driver's seat, you
and other vehicle occupants – particular ly
ch ildren – could become trapped. #
During the adjustment process forthe
easy entry andexitfeature, make sure
th at no one has any body parts in the sweep of
thesteering wheel or the driv‐
er's seat.
If th ere is a risk of becoming trapped bythe
st eering wheel: #
Movethe adjustment le ver of thesteer‐
ing wheel.
The adjustment process is stopped.
If th ere is a risk of becoming trapped bythe
driver's seat: #
Press the seat adjustment switch.
The adjustment process is stopped. #

th e easy entry andexitfeature is active, the
st eering wheel will mo veupwards and the driv‐
er's seat will mo veback in thefo llowing situa‐
tions:
R you swit chthe ignition off when the driver's
door is open
R you open the driver's door when the ignition
is switched off
% The steering wheel will mo veupwards on lyif
it is not already as high as it will go. The driv‐
er's seat will mo vebackwards only if it is not
already in there armost position. 11 2

The
steering wheel and the driver's seat will
mo veback tothe last drive position in thefo l‐
lowing cases:
R you swit chthe po wer supp lyor the ignition
on when the driver's door is closed
R you close the driver's door when the ignition
is switched on
The last drive position is stored in thefo llowing
situations:
R you swit chthe ignition off
R Vehicles with memory function: call upthe
seat settings via the memory function.
R Vehicles with memory function: save the
seat settings via the memory function.
Ve hicles with memory function: press one of
th e memory function sa ved position buttons to
st op the adjustment process. Setting

Only use the memory function on the
driver's side when theve hicle is station‐

WARNING Risk of entrapment when set‐
ting the seat with the memory function
When the memory function adjusts the seat,
yo u and other vehicle occupants – particu‐
lar lych ildren – could become trapped. #
During the adjustment process of the
memory function, make sure that no
one has any body parts in the sweep of
th e seat. #
If someone becomes trapped, press a
memory position switch or seat adjust‐
ment switch immediately. &
WARNING Risk of entrapment if the
memory function is activated bychildren
Children could become trapped if they acti‐
va te the memory function, particularly when
unattended. #

ve hicle. #

If objects, luggage or loads are not secured
or not secured suf ficientl y,they could slip,
tip ove r or be throw n around and thereby hit
ve hicle occupants.
There is a risk of injur y,particularly in the
ev ent of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction. #
Alw aysstow objects in such a wayth at
th ey cannot be thro wn around. #
Before the journe y,secure objects, lug‐
ga ge or loads against slipping or tipping
ove r. &

being stowed incor rectly
If yo u inadequately stowobjects in theve hi‐
cle interior, they could slip or be tossed
around and thereby strike vehicle occupants.
In addition, cup holders, open stowage
spaces and mobile phone brac kets cann ot alw
aysre stra in the objects they contain in
th eev ent of an accident.
There is a risk of injur y,particularly in the
ev ent of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction. #
Alw aysstow objects in such a wayth at
th ey cannot be tossed about in these or
similar situations. #
Alw ays make sure that objects do not
project from stowage spaces, luggage
nets or stowage nets. #
Close the loc kable stow age spaces
before starting a journe y. #
Alw aysstow and secure objects that
are heavy, hard, poin ted, sharp-edged,
fragile or too large in the boot. &
WARNING Risk of bu rning from theta il‐
pipe or tailpipe trim
The tailpipe and tailpipe trim can become
ve ry hot. If you come into contact with these
car parts, you could burn yourself. #
Alw ays be particular lycareful when in
th e vicinity of theta ilpipe and tailpipe
trims and supervise children very
closely when in this area. #
Before any con tact, allow the car parts
to cool down. The driving
characteristics of your vehicle are
dependent on the distribution of the load within
th eve hicle. You should bear thefo llowing in
mind when loading theve hicle:
R neverex ceed the permissible gross mass or
th e permissible axle loads forth eve hicle
(including occupants).
Information can be found on theve hicle iden‐
tification plate (→ page 457).
R the load must not pr otru de abo vethe upper
edge of the seat backrests.
R always place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
R secure the load using the tie-down eyes and

Tie-down eyes
Ve hicles with a draught stop: there is an addi‐
tional tie-down eye behind there ar ben chseat
backrests. Toaccess this, the seat backrests
must be folded down (→ page116). Overvi

hooks with heavy objects
The bag hooks cannot restra in heavy objects
or items of luggage.
Objects or items of luggage could be thrown
around and thereby hit vehicle occupants
when braking or abruptly changing direc‐
tions. #
Onlyhang light objects on the bag
hooks. #
Never hang hard, sharp-edged or fragile
objects on the bag hooks. The bag hook can bear a maximum load of 1
kg.
