high cornering speeds or high rates of accel‐
eration.
R When ESP ®
is deactivated.
R When driving with a trailer, the electrical con‐
nection tothe trailer has been cor rectly
es tablished.
R If a loss of tyre pressure or a defective tyre
has been de tected and displ ayed.
If yo u deactivate theAc tive Lane Keeping Assist
wa rning and the lane markings cann otbe clearly de
tected, it is possible that no lane cor recting
brake application take s place (/ page 234).
The sy stem may be impaired or may not function
particular lyin thefo llowing situations:
R Ifth ere is poor visibility, e.g. due toinsuf fi‐
cient illumination of thero ad, if there are
highly variable shade conditions or in rain,
sno w,fog or heavy spr ay.
R Ifth ere is glare, e.g. from oncoming traf fic,
th e sun or reflections.
R Ifth e windscreen in the area of the multi‐
function camera is dirty, or if the camera is
mis ted up, damaged or co vered.
R Ifth ere are no lane markings, or se veral
unclear lane markings are present for one
lane, e.g. around roadwor ks.
R Ifth e lane markings are worn, dark or cov‐
ered.
R Ifth e dis tance from theve hicle in front is too
short and thus the lane markings cann otbe
de tected. R
Ifth e lane markings change quickl y,e.g.
lanes branch off, cross one ano ther or
mer ge.
R Ifth e car riag ewa y is very nar row and wind‐
ing.
R Vehicles with Driving Assistance Pack‐
age: ifth era dar sensors in there ar bumper
are dirty or co vered in snow and an obs tacle
is de tected in your lane, no lane-cor recting
brake application take s place.

Re quirements:
R the engine has been warmed up.
R theve hicle is par ked on a le vel sur face.
R The engine is running at idle speed.
The engine oil le vel is de term ined during driving.
De term ining the engine oil le vel can take up to
30 minutes with a normal driving style and even
longer with an active driving style.

Engine oil level
Yo u will see one of thefo llowing messages on
th e multifunction display:
R Engine oil level Measuring now : measure‐
ment of the oil le vel is not yet possible. #
Repeat there qu est af ter a maximum of
30 minutes' driving.
R Engine oil level OK andthe bar display for
indicating the oil le vel on the multifunction
display is green and is between "min" and
"max": the oil le vel is cor rect.
R Engine oil level Add 1,0 l andthe bar display
fo r indicating the oil le vel on the multifunc‐
tion display is orange and is below "min": #
Add 1 l of engine oil.
R Reduce engine oil level andthe bar display
fo r indicating the oil le vel on the multifunc‐
tion display is orange and is abo ve"max": #
Drain off any excess engine oil that has been
added. Todo so, consult a qualified specialist
wo rkshop.
R For engine oil level turn on ignition #
Switch on the ignition tocheck the engine oil
le ve l.
R Engine oil level System inoperative : The oil
le ve l sensor is defective or not connec ted. #
Consult a qualified specialist workshop.

Cer tain component parts in the engine com‐
partment can be very hot, e.g. the engine,
th e cooler and parts of theex haust sy stem. #

engine oil
If engine oil comes into con tact wi thhot
component parts in the engine compart‐
ment, it may ignite. #

WARNING Risk of entrapment if the
windscreen wipers are swit ched on while
th e windscreen is being cleaned
If th e windscreen wipers are set in motion
while you are cleaning the windscreen or
wiper blades, you can be trapped bythe
wiper arm. #
Alw ays switch off the windscreen wip‐
ers and the ignition before cleaning the
windscreen or wiper blades. &
WARNING Risk of bu rns from theta il‐
pipe and tailpipe trims
The exhaust tailpipe and tailpipe trims can
become very hot. If you come into contact with
these parts of theve hicle, you could
burn yourself. #
Alw ays be particular lycareful around
th eta ilpipe and theta ilpipe trims and
supervise children especially closely in
th is area. #
Allow vehicle parts tocool down before
to uching them. To
avo id damage totheve hicle, obser vethe
no tes on cleaning and care of thefo llowing vehi‐
cle parts.
Wheels and rims
R Use wate r and acid-free wheel cleaners.
R Do not use acidic wheel cleaners toremo ve
brake dust. This could damage wheel bolts
and brake components.
R Toavo id cor rosion of the brake discs and
brake pads, drive theve hicle for a few
minutes af ter cleaning before parking it. The
brake discs and brake pads warm up and dry
out. Wi
ndo ws
R Clean wind owsinside and outside with a
damp clo thand with a cleaning agent recom‐
mended for Mercedes-Benz.
R Do not use dry clo ths or abrasive or solvent-
based cleaning agents toclean the inside of
windo ws.
Wi per blades
R Fold out the wiper blades and clean them
using a damp clo th.
R Do not clean the wiper blades too of ten.
Ex terior lighting
R Clean the lenses with a wet sponge and mild
cleaning agent, e.g. car sha mpoo.
R Only use cleaning agents or cleaning clo ths
th at are suitable for plast ic lenses.
Sensors
R Clean the sensors in the front and rear
bumpers with a soft clo thand car shampoo
(/ page 181).
R When using a high -pressure cleaner,maintain
a minimum dis tance of 30 cm. Maintenance and care

nction of the ty repressure moni toring sys‐
tem
The sy stem checks the tyre pressure and the
tyre temp erature of the tyres fitted totheve hicle
by means of a tyre pressu resensor.
The tyre pressure and the tyre temp erature
appear in the multifunction display
(/ page 328).
If th ere is a subs tantial pressure loss or if the
tyre temp erature is excessive, you will be
wa rned in thefo llowing ways:
R via display messa ges (/ page 405)
R viatheh warning lamp in the instrument
clus ter
The tyre pressure monitoring sy stem is only an
aid. It is the driver's responsibility toset the tyre pressure
tothere commended cold tyre pressure
suitable forth e operating situation.
In most cases, the tyre pressure monitoring sys‐
te m will auto maticallyupdate the new refere nce
va lues af teryo u ha vechanged the tyre pressure.
Yo u can, ho wever,also update there fere nce val‐
ues byrestarting the tyre pressure monitoring
sy stem manually (/ page 427).
Sy stem limits
The sy stem may be impaired or may not function
particular lyin thefo llowing situations:
R the tyre pressure has been set incor rectly
R there is a sudden pressure loss caused, for
ex ample, byafo re ign object penetrating the
tyre
R there is a malfunction caused byano ther
ra dio signal source

The use of shims or brake dust shields is not

R Vehicles with a tyre pressure monitoring
sy stem: allfitted wheels mu stbe equipped
with functioning sensors forth e tyre pres‐
sure monitoring sy stem.
R Attemp eratures below 7 °C use winter tyres
or all-season tyres mar ked M+S for all
wheels.
Wi nter tyres bearing thei snowflake
symbol in addition tothe M+S marking pro‐
vide the best possible grip in wintry road
conditions.
R For M+S tyres, only use tyres with the same
tread.
R Obser vethe maximum permissible speed for
th e M+S tyres fitted. If
th e tyre's maximum speed is below that of
th eve hicle, this must be indicated byan
appropriate label in the driver's field of
vision.
R Run in new tyres at moderate speeds forthe
fi rs t10 0 km.
R Replace the tyres af ter six years at the latest,
re ga rdless of wear.
R When replacing with tyres that do not
fe ature run-flat characteristics: vehicles
with MOExtended tyres are not equipped
with a TIREFIT kit at thefa ctor y.Equip the
ve hicle with a TIREFIT kit af terre placing with
tyres that do not feature run-flat characteris‐
tics, e.g. winter tyres.

ve hicle speed for driving with winter tyres
(/ page 194).
