Ignition (power supply for all consumers)
and drive position
004C To start the engine
i Even if the key is not for the vehicle in
question, it wills till turn in the ignition lock.
The ignition is not switched on. The engine
cannot be started. KEYLESS-GO*
Pressing the Start/Stop button repeatedly
corresponds to the different key positions in
the ignition lock. This requires that you do not
depres sthe brake pedal.
If you depres sthe brake pedala nd press the
Start/Stop button, the engine starts immedi-
ately. X
Position 0:ifStart/Stop button 0046has not
yet been pressed ,this corresponds to "key
removed".
X Position 1:press Start/Stop button 0046
once.
It is now possible to switch on the wind-
screen wipers, for example.
i If you open the driver's door in this posi-
tion, the powers upply is disconnected
again.
X Position 2(ignition): press Start/Stop but-
ton 0046twice. i
If you press Start/Stop button 0046in this
positio nonce and the driver's door is open,
the powers upply is disconnected again.
Removing the Start/Stop button You can remove the Start/Stop button from
the ignition lock and start the vehicle with a
key as usual.

You do not need to remove the Start/
Stop button from the ignition lock when you
leave the vehicle. X
Remove Start/Stop button 0046from ignition
lock 0047.
i When you insert the Start/Stop button
into the ignition lock, the system requires
2s econds recognition time before the
Start/Stop button can be used. Seats

Depending on the vehicle's equipment, the
seats can adjusted either manually/electri-

The seats can still be adjusted when there is

! With intermittent wiping with rain sensor:
Due to optica linfluences and the wind-
screen becoming dirty in dry weather con-
ditions, the windscree nwiper smaybe acti-
vated inadvertently. Thi scould then dam-
ag et he windscree nwiper blades or scratch
the windscreen.
For thi sreason, yo ushoul dalway sswitch
off the windscree nwiper sind ry weather.
X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
X Turn the combinatio nswitch to the corre-
sponding position. In the
004Eor004F position, the appropriate
wiping frequency is set automaticall yaccord-
ing to the intensity of the rain. In the 004F
position, the rain sensor is mor esensitive
tha nint he004E positio nand therefore the
windscree nwiper will wipe mor efrequently. Side windows

dure. Otherwise, yo ucould be drawn in or

door frame by the downwards movement of

the driver's side is not adopted for the
front-passenger side or the rear compart-

The indicator lamp above the 0066button
goes out. The previouslys elected settings
come into effect again. The cooling with air
dehumidification function remains on. Air-
recirculation mode remains deactivated.

goes out. Airflow and air distribution are set
to automatic mode.

The radiator fan between the radiator and the
engine can star tautomatically, eve nifthe key
ha sb eenr emoved from the ignition lock. For
this reason, yo umustn ot reach into the fan
rotation area. Otherwise, yo ucould be
injured.
Vehicles with apetro lengine:
The electroni cignition system uses hig hvolt-
age. For this reason, yo umustn ever touch
ignition system components (ignition coil,
ignition cable ,spark plug connector or test
socket) while:
R the engine is running.
R the engine is being started.
R the ignition is switched on and the engine
is being cranke dbyhand.
You could otherwise suffer an electri cshock
and be seriously or eve nfatall yinjured.

be injured by the wiper linkage.
Make sure that the windscreen wiper is
switched off. Remove the key or make sure
that no ignition level ha sbeens elected on
KEYLESS-GO* .Inthe instrument cluster, all
of the indicator lamps mus tbeo ut. The bonne
trelease lever is located in the
driver' sfootwell. X
Pull bonne trelease lever 0046.
The bonne tisr eleased.
! Make sure that the windscreen wipers
are not folded away from the windscreen.
Otherwise, yo ucould damag ethe wind-
scree nwiper sort he bonnet.

above the radiator grill eonthe right-hand
sid eoft he vehicle whe nviewe dint he direc-
tion of travel. X
Reach into the gap, pull bonne tcatch han-
dle 0047up and lift the bonnet.

fail completely.

Replacing the wiper blades

The windscreen will not longer be wiped prop-
erl yift he wiper blades are worn. Thi scould
prevent yo ufrom observing the traffic condi-
tions ,thereby causing an accident. Replace
the wiper blades twice ayear, ideall yinspring
and autumn. G

The wiper arm scould star tmoving and cause
an injury if yo uleave the windscreen wipers
switched on.
Remove the key from the ignition lock before
replacing the wiper blades.
! To avoid damaging the windscreen wiper
blades, make sure that yo utouch only the
wiper arm of the windscreen wiper. To remove

turn the key to position 0(KEYLESS-GO).
X Fol dthe wiper arm away from the wind-
screen unti litengages.
X Set the wiper blad eatright angle stothe

Remove the wiper blad efrom the retainer
