Unlocking and opening doors from
the inside
You can open a door from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked.
Only open the door if traffic conditions allow
you to do so.
If the vehicle has previously been locked with
the SmartKey or with KEYLESS-GO, opening
a door from the inside will trigger the anti-
theft alarm system. Switch off the alarm
(Y page 71).
XPull door handle ;.
If the door is locked, locking knob : pops
up. The door is unlocked and can be
opened.
iWhen a door is opened, the side window
on that side opens slightly. When the door
is closed, the side window closes again.
! The side windows will not open/close if
the battery is discharged or if the side
windows have iced up. It will then not be
possible to close the door. Do not attempt
to force the door closed. You could
otherwise damage the door or the side
window.
Centrally locking and unlocking the
vehicle from the inside
The locking or unlocking buttons of the
central locking do not lock or unlock the fuel
filler flap.
XTo unlock: press button :.XTo lock: press button ;.
The vehicle locks when all the doors are
closed.
The vehicle locks when all front-passenger
doors are closed.
If the vehicle has been locked centrally with
the SmartKey or with KEYLESS-GO, it does
not unlock if you use the unlocking button of
the central locking.
Automatic locking
iThe vehicle locks automatically when the
ignition is switched on and the wheels of
the vehicle are moving at a speed of more
than 9 mph(15 km/h). You may therefore
lock yourself out if the vehicle is being
pushed, towed, or located on a test rig.
XTo deactivate: press and hold button :
for about five seconds until a tone sounds.
XTo activate: press and hold button ; for
about five seconds until a tone sounds.

iWhen you push either of the two buttons
and an audible warning signal does not
sound, the relevant setting has already
been selected.
You can switch the automatic locking
function on and off using the on-board
computer (Y page 210).
Unlocking the driver's door
(mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked
centrally with the SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO:
XTake the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 77).
XInsert the mechanical key into the lock of
the driver's door as far as it will go.
XTurn the mechanical key counter-clockwise
to position 1.
The door is unlocked.
XTurn the mechanical key back and remove
it.
Locking the vehicle (mechanical key)
Emergency locking
XOpen the driver's door.XClose the front-passenger door and the
trunk lid.
XPress the locking button (Y page 81).XMake sure that the locking knob on the
front-passenger door is still visible. Press
down the locking knob by hand, if
necessary.
XClose the driver's door.XTake the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 77).
XInsert the mechanical key into the lock of
the driver's door as far as it will go.
XTurn the mechanical key clockwise as far
as it will go to position 1.
XTurn the mechanical key back and remove
it.
XMake sure that the doors and the trunk lid
are locked.
iIf you lock the vehicle as described above,
the fuel filler flap is not locked. The anti-
theft alarm system is not activated.
Trunk
Important safety notes
Do not leave the SmartKey in the trunk. You
could otherwise lock yourself out.

GWarning
When leaving the vehicle, always remove the
SmartKey from the ignition lock. Always take
the SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.
Do not leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle, even if they are secured in a child
restraint system, and do not give them access
to an unlocked vehicle. A child's unsupervised
access to a vehicle could result in an accident
and/or serious personal injury. They could:
Rinjure themselves on vehicle parts
Rbe seriously or fatally injured by extreme
heat or cold
Rinjure themselves or have an accident with
vehicle equipment that may still be in
operation even after the SmartKey has
been removed from the ignition, such as the
seat adjustment, steering wheel
adjustment or memory function.
If children open a door, they could cause
severe or even fatal injury to other persons; if
they get out of the vehicle, they could injure
themselves when doing so or be seriously or
even fatally injured by any passing traffic.
Do not expose the child restraint system to
direct sunlight. The child restraint system's
metal parts, for example, could become very
hot, and a child could be burned on these
parts.
GWarning!
Do not carry heavy or hard objects in the
passenger compartment or trunk unless they
are firmly secured in place.
Unsecured or improperly positioned cargo
increases a child's risk of injury in the event
of

Make sure the trunk lid is closed when the
engine is running and while driving. Among
other dangers, deadly carbon monoxide (CO)
gases may enter the vehicle interior resulting
in unconsciousness and death.
! The trunk lid swings upwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that there is
sufficient clearance above the trunk lid.
For the trunk lid to be opened fully, there must
be a minimum clearance from floor to ceiling
of 5.58 ft (1.70 m).
The trunk lid can be:
Ropened and closed manually from outside
Ropened automatically from outside
Ropened automatically from inside
Opening and closing manually

You can only open the trunk lid after
unlocking it first.
You can only unlock the trunk lid when the
vehicle is stationary.
XPress the % button on the SmartKey.XPull handle :.XRaise the trunk lid.
Closing
GWarning
To prevent possible personal injury, always
keep hands and fingers away from the trunk
opening when closing the trunk lid. Be
especially careful when small children are
around.

XPull the trunk lid down using recess :.XLock the vehicle if necessary with
the & button on the SmartKey or with
KEYLESS-GO (Y page 75).
iIf you leave a KEYLESS-GO key in the
trunk, the trunk lid will not lock.
Automatic opening and closing from
the outside
Important safety guidelines
GWarning
Make sure the trunk lid is closed when the
engine is running and while driving. Among
other dangers, deadly carbon monoxide (CO)
gases may enter the vehicle interior resulting
in unconsciousness and death.
! The trunk lid swings upwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that there is
sufficient clearance above the trunk lid.
For the trunk lid to be opened fully, there must
be a minimum clearance from floor to ceiling
of 5.58 ft (1.70 m).
Opening
You can unlock and open the trunk lid
simultaneously with the SmartKey.
XPress and hold the F button on the
SmartKey until the trunk lid opens.Opening automatically from the
inside
You can open the tailgate from the driver's
seat when the vehicle is stationary.
XTo open: pull remote operating switch for
trunk lid : until the trunk lid opens.
Locking the trunk separately
You can lock the trunk separately. If you then
unlock the vehicle centrally, the trunk
remains locked and cannot be opened.
XClose the trunk lid.XTake the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 77).
XInsert the mechanical key into the trunk lid
lock as far as the stop.
XTurn the mechanical key clockwise from
position 1 to position 2.

Unlocking the trunk (mechanical key)
! The trunk lid swings upwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that there is
sufficient clearance above the trunk lid.
If the trunk can no longer be unlocked with
the SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO:
XTake the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 77).
XInsert the mechanical key into the trunk lid
lock as far as the stop.
XTurn the mechanical key counter-clockwise
as far as it will go to position 1 and pull
the trunk lid handle.
The trunk is unlocked.
XTurn the mechanical key back and remove
it.
Trunk emergency release
You can open the trunk lid from inside the
vehicle with the emergency release button.
XBriefly press emergency release
button :.
The trunk lid unlocks and opens.
The trunk lid can be unlocked and opened
with the trunk lid emergency release when
the vehicle is stationary or while driving.
Trunk lid emergency release light:
RThe button flashes for 30 minutes after the
trunk lid is opened.
RThe button flashes for 60 minutes after the
trunk lid is closed.
The trunk lid emergency release does not
open the trunk lid if the battery is
disconnected or discharged.

If you press the switch beyond the point
of resistance, an automatic opening/
closing process is started in the
corresponding direction. You can stop
automatic operation by pressing again.
Opening and closing all side windows
(Cabriolet)
XOpen the cover on the lower center
console.
The switch for all side windows is under the
cover.XTo open all side windows manually:
press switch : as far as the point of
resistance.XTo open all side windows fully: press
switch : beyond the point of resistance.XTo close all side windows: pull

Convenience opening (Coupe)
You can ventilate the vehicle before you start
driving. To do this, you can use the key to
simultaneously:
R open the side windows
R open the panorama roof with power tilt/
sliding panel and roller sunblind
R switch on the seat ventilation of the driver's
seat
i The convenience opening feature can
only be operated using the key. The key
must be near the handle of the driver's
door.XPoint the tip of the key at the driver's door
handle.XUnlock the vehicle by pressing the %
button.XPress and hold the % button until the
side windows and the panorama roof with
power tilt/sliding panel are in the desired
position.
If the roller sunblind of the panorama roof
with power tilt/sliding panel is closed, the
roller sunblind is opened first.
XPress and hold the % button again until
the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel is in the desired position.
Convenience closing (Coupe)
General information
When you lock the vehicle, you can
simultaneously:
R close the side windows
R close the panorama roof with power tilt/
sliding panel
On vehicles with a panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel, you can then close the
roller sunblind.
GWarning!
When closing the windows and the panorama
roof with power tilt/sliding panel, make sure
there is no danger of anyone being harmed by
the closing procedure.
If potential danger exists, proceed as follows:
R Release button & to stop the closing
procedure. To open, press and hold button
% . To continue the closing procedure
after making sure that there is no danger of
anyone being harmed by the closing
procedure, press and hold button &.

Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO:
RRelease the sensor surface on the outside
door handle to stop the closing procedure.
RImmediately pull on the same outside door
handle and hold firmly. The windows and
the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel will open for as long as the door
handle is held but the door not opened.
Using the SmartKey
iThe key must be near the handle of the
driver's door.
XPoint the tip of the key at the driver's door
handle.
XPress and hold the & button until the
side windows and the panorama roof with
power tilt/sliding panel are fully closed.
XMake sure that all the side windows and the
panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel are closed.
On vehicles with a panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel:
XPress and hold the & button again until
the roller sunblind of the panorama roof
with power tilt/sliding panel closes.
XTo interrupt the convenience closing
procedure: release the & button.
Using KEYLESS-GO
The SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO must be
outside the vehicle but no more than 3 ft (1 m)
away from a door.
XClose all the doors.XTouch the sensor surface on door
handle : until the side windows and the
panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel are fully closed.
iMake sure you only touch sensor
surface :.
XMake sure that all the side windows and the
panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel are closed.
On vehicles with a panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel:
XTouch sensor surface : on the door
handle again until the roller sunblind of the
panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel closes.
XTo interrupt convenience closing:
release sensor surface : on the door
handle.
Resetting the side windows
You must reset all the side windows if the side
window cannot be closed fully.
XClose all the doors.XTurn the key to position 2 in the ignition
lock.
XPull on the corresponding switch on the
door control panel until the side window is
completely closed (Y page 86).

Important safety notes
GRisk of injury
Make sure nobody can be trapped or injured
by moving parts such as the soft-top linkage
or soft-top compartment cover when opening
or closing the soft top.
If there is a risk of entrapment, immediately
release the % or & button on the
SmartKey. The soft-top mechanism stops
immediately.
Opening and closing
iThe key must be near the handle of the
driver's door.
XPoint the tip of the SmartKey at the driver's
door handle.
XTo open: press and hold the % button
on the key until the soft top is fully opened.
The Convertible Top in Operation
message appears in the multifunction
display. The seat ventilation is switched on.
The rear side windows open.
XTo close: press and hold the & button
on the key until the soft top is fully closed.
The Convertible Top in Operation
message appears in the multifunction
display. The soft top and the side windows
close.
Closing the soft top manually
If the soft top cannot be closed automatically,
check the following points:
Ris the trunk partition engaged
(Y page 96)?
Rare the head restraints on the rear bench
seats extended?
Ris the trunk lid closed?
Ris the on-board voltage sufficient?
Start the engine if necessary.
If automatic operation still does not work, the
soft top can be closed manually.
This work must be performed by two persons.
iClosing the soft top manually is a
complex, technically demanding process
which requires a great deal of force. Only
close the soft top manually in extreme
emergencies. In these situations, it is
better to get in touch with a qualified
specialist workshop, e.g. an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
GRisk of injury
Remove wristwatches and any jewelry such
as rings or bracelets. You could otherwise get
caught, be injured and damage the vehicle.
Always grip the soft top at the indicated
gripping points when closing the soft top
manually. You could otherwise be injured.
XDepress the parking brake.XOpen the side windows.XLower the head restraints (automatically
(Y page 109) or manually (Y page 109)).
XRemove the key from the ignition lock.XOpen the trunk.XTake the two straps out of the vehicle tool
kit (Y page 287).
XTake the Allen key out of the Operator's
Manual wallet and keep it with you.
XTo open the cover on the left hand side
in the trunk: turn rotary catch : counter-
clockwise and fold down cover ;.

AIRCAP
General notes
With AIRCAP, four people can travel
comfortably with the soft top down. AIRCAP
reduces the draft for the driver and
passengers in both the front and the rear
compartment in a vehicle with the soft top
down. You can open or close AIRCAP either
when the vehicle is stationary or when driving
up to a speed of 160 km/h.
AIRCAP has the following components:
Ra wind deflector between the windshield
and the soft top
Ran AIRCAP wind screen between the two
head restraints on the rear bench seat
GRisk of injury
When extending and retracting AIRCAP, make
sure that no one can become trapped. If there
is a risk of entrapment, press the button again
to retract AIRCAP again.
The AIRCAP button is located under the cover
in the lower center console.

Extending AIRCAP
XTurn the key to position 2 in the ignition
lock.
XOpen the cover on the lower center
console.
XPress AIRCAP button :.
The two indicator lamps on the AIRCAP
button light up.
Wind deflector ; extends. The head
restraints on the rear bench seats and
AIRCAP wind screen = move to the center
position simultaneously.
If one or two passengers in the rear
compartment then fasten their seat belts, the
head restraints in the rear bench seats and
AIRCAP wind screen = move to the upper
position.
iIf, when AIRCAP is extended, you park
your vehicle with the soft top down and
remove the key, the wind deflector and the
head restraints in the rear compartment
retract automatically. When you return to
your vehicle and start the engine again, the
wind deflector and the head restraints in
the rear compartment are extended again.
iAIRCAP cannot be extended or retracted
if the vehicle speed exceeds 160 km/h.

Retracting AIRCAPXTurn the key to position 2 in the ignition

The head restraints on the rear bench seats
and AIRCAP wind screen = move to the
lowest position simultaneously.
i If there are passengers wearing seat belts
in the rear compartment, the head
restraints on the rear bench seats and the
AIRCAP wind screen remain in the upper
position.
Retracting the head restraints on the
rear bench seats from the driver's seat
To improve the rear view, you can retract the
head restraints on the rear bench seats
individually ( Y page 109). The wind deflector
remains in its current position.
Installing and removing the AIRCAP
wind screen
Preparation
You will need a 4 mm Allen key to install/
remove the AIRCAP wind screen.
Before installing or removing the AIRCAP
wind screen:
XTurn the key to position 2 in the ignition
lock.XOpen the folding roof fully ( Y page 90).XExtend the head restraints in the rear
compartment fully ( Y page 109).Removing
Bolts on the AIRCAP wind screen between the head
restraints in the rear compartment
XUse the 4 mm Allen key to turn the bolts on
both sides counter-clockwise by about 90°
and release them.XPull the bolts out of the brackets on the
head restraints.XPull the AIRCAP wind screen out of the
guide rails in the direction of the arrow.
Make sure that you pull the AIRCAP wind
