Make sure that there ar ben chseat, the
re ar seat and the seat backrest are
engaged before everytrip. Alw
ays ensure that all vehicle occupants ha ve
th eir seat belts fastened cor rectly and are sitting
prope rly. Pa rticular attention must be paid to
ch ildren.
If yo u no lon gerre qu ire thefo lded-d own seat
ba ckrest as a loading area, fold the backrest
back into place.
Re quirements:
R The area into which the seat backrest is fol‐
ded is clear.
R The rear seat backrest head restra ints are
fully inse rted.
R Tofold the cent reseat backrest forw ards:
th e cent reseat backrest has been unloc ked.
R The armrest on the second row of seats is
fo lded back and the cup holders are em pty. Yo
u can fold the cent reand outer seat backrests
fo rw ards separatel y. #
Vehicles without a memory function:
mo vethe driver's or front passenger seat for‐
wa rds, if necessar y. #
Vehicles with a memory function: if at
lea stone section of there ar seat backrest is
fo lded forw ards, the cor responding front seat will mo
veforw ards slightl y,if necessar y,to
av oid a collision. #
If necessar y,fully insert the head restra ints
in there ar seat backrest. #
Tofold the left and right seat backrests

can then be folded forw ards on lytoge ther with

R The mobile phone may heat up during the
ch arging process. This depends on the appli‐
cations (apps) cur rently running.
The mobile phone can be cooled in the
mobile phone stowage compartment when
th e air conditioning sy stem is switched on.
The cooling output in the mobile phone stow‐
age compartment is highest when the con‐

Exterior lighting

hicles with static LED headlamps: it is not
necessa ryto con vert the headlamps. The legal
re qu irements are also met in countries in which
traf fic drives on theot her side of thero ad.
Ve hicles with Intelligent Light Sy stem: before
crossing the border into count ries in which traf‐
fi c drives on theot her side of thero ad, it is nec‐
essary toset the headlamps tosymmetrical low
beam (/ page134).
On ce the headlamps ha vebeen con verted:
R Oncoming tra ffic will not be dazzled.
R The edge of thero ad will not be illuminated
as far or as high.
R The "mo torw ay mode" and "enhanced fog
light" functions will not be available.
The headlamps must be reset toasymm etrical
low beam when youre turn from ab road. Information about lighting sy
stems and your
re sponsibility The
various lighting sy stems of theve hicle are
only aids. The driver of theve hicle is responsible
fo r cor rect vehicle illumination in accordance
with the pr evailing light and visibility conditions,

Where possible, switch on the
ri ght X or left Wparking light. In
theeve nt of se vere battery discharging, the
st anding lights or parking lights will be swit ched
off automatically tofacilitate the next engine
st art. The
exterior lighting (e xcept standing and park‐
ing lights) will swit choff automatically when the
driver's door is opened.

Au tomatic driving lights function
The standing lights, low beam and daytime run‐
ning lights are switched on au tomatically
depending on the ignition status and the light
conditions. &
WARNING Risk of accident when the
dipped beam is switched off in poor visi‐
bility
When the light switch is set toà ,the
dipped beam may not be switched on auto‐
matically if there is fog, snow or other causes
of poor visibility such as spr ay. #
In such cases, turn the light switch to

Fu
nction of the ad versewe ather light
The adverse weather light reduces reflections in
ra iny conditions bydimming individual LEDs in
th e headlamps. The driver and other road users
are dazzled less as a result.
The city lighting function
City lighting impr oves the illumination of road‐
sides in urban areas using a broad distribution of
light.
The function is active in thefo llowing cases:
R Atlow speeds
R In illuminated parts of urban areas

with their own lighting, or may recognise

In these, or in similar situations, the auto‐
matic high beam will not be deactivated or
will be activated despite the presence of
ot her road users. #

th e_ indicator lamp will light up on the

Pa rtial high beam does not include other road
users in the high beam area. It does not dazzle
th em but enables full high beam illumination for
th e driver apart from theexc luded vehicles.
At speeds below 25 km/h or when there is suf fi‐
cient stre et lighting:
R The partial high beam and the high beam will
be switched off automaticall y.
At speeds greater than 30 km/h:
R If no other road users are de tected, the high
beam will be switched on automatically.
R Ifot her road users are de tected, the partial
high beam will be switched on automaticall y.
At speeds abo ve40 km/h:
R If no other road users are de tected on a
st ra ight road, ULTRA RANGE Highbeam will
be swit ched on automatically.
R Ifot her road users are de tected, the partial

rearview mir ror and the outside mir‐
ro r on the driver's side will automatically go into
anti-dazzle mode if light from a headlamp hits
th e sensor on the inside rearview mir ror.
Sy stem limits
The sy stem will not go into anti-dazzle mode if:
R the engine is switched off.
R reve rsege ar is engaged.
R the interior lighting is switched on. Fr
ont-passenger outside mir ror parking posi‐
tion function The pa
rking position makes parking easier.
The front-passenger outside mir ror will swivel
down wards in the direction of there ar wheel on
th e front passenger's side when:
R the parking position is stored (/ page141).
R the front-passen ger mir ror is selected.
R reve rsege ar is engaged. The front-passenger outside mir
ror will mo ve
back toits original position when:
R you shift the transmission toano ther trans‐
mission position.
R you are tra velling at a speed greaterth an
15 km/h.
R you press the button forth e outside mir ror
