HOLD function
General notes
The HOLD function can assist the driverint he
following situations:
Rwhen pulling away, especially on steep slopes
Rwhen maneuvering on steep slopes
Rwhen waiting in traffic
The vehicleisk ept stationary without the driver
having to depress the brake pedal.
The braking effect is cancele dand the HOLD
function deactivated when you depress the
accelerator pedaltop ulla way.
Do not use the HOLD function when driving off-
road ,ons teep uphill or downhill gradients or on
slippery or looses urfaces. The HOLD function
cannot hold the vehicleons uch surfaces.
Important safety notes
GWARNING
When leaving the vehicle, it can still roll away despite being braked by the HOLD function if:
Rthere is amalfunction in the system or in
the voltag esupply.
Rthe HOLD function has been deactivated by
pressing the accelerator pedalort he brake
pedal, e.g. by avehicleo ccupant.
Rthe electrical system in the engine com-
partment, the battery or the fuse shave
been tampere dwith.
Rthe battery is disconnected
There is arisk of an accident.
If you wis htoexit the vehicle, alway sturn off
the HOLD function and secure the vehicle
against rolling away.
!When DISTRONIC PLUS or the HOLD func-
tion is activated, the vehicleb rakes automat-
ically in certain situations.
To avoi ddamage to the vehicle, deactivate
DISTRONIC PLUS and the HOLD function in
the following or similar situations:
Rwhen towing the vehicle
Rin the car wash
Deactivating the HOLD function (
Ypage1 39).
Activation conditions
You can activate the HOLD function if:
Rthe vehicleiss tationary
Rthe engine is running or if it has been auto-
matically switched off by the ECO start/stop
function
Rthe driver's door is closed or you rseat belti s
fastened
Rthe parking brake is released
Rthe transmission is in position D,R or N
RDISTRONIC PLUS is deactivated
Activating the HOLD function
XMake sure that the activation conditions are
met.
XDepress the brake pedal.
XQuickly depress the brake pedalf urther until
ë appears in the multifunction display.
The HOLD function is activated. You can
release the brake pedal.
If depressing the brake pedalt he first time does
not activate the HOLD function, wai tbriefly and
then try again.
Deactivatin gthe HOLD function
The HOLD function is deactivated automatically
if:
Ryou accelerate and the transmission is in
position Dor R.
Rthe transmission is in position j.
Ryou depress the brake pedalagain withacer-
tain amount of pressure until ëdisap-
pears from the multifunction display.
Ryou activate DISTRONIC PLUS
On steep uphill or downhill gradients or if there
is am alfunction, the transmission may als obe
automatically shifted into position P.
Permanentall-wheel drive
!
Never tow the vehiclew ith one axle raised.
This may damage the transfer case. Damage
of this sort is not covered by the Mercedes-
Benz Limited Warranty. All wheels must
remai neither on the ground or be full yraised.
Observe the instructions for towing the vehi-
cle with all wheels in full contact with the
ground.

45 A. Otherwise ,you will overload th efuses.
The sockets can be used for accessories wit ha
maximum curren tdraw of 18 0W(15 A) each,
e.g. chargers for mobile phones.
If you use th esockets for lon gperiods when th e
engin eisswitched off ,the battery may dis-
charge .

Brake fluid level

brake fluid reservoi rhas fallen to the MIN
mark or less, check the brake system imme-

the brake linings. Visitaq ualified specialist
workshop immediately.
Do not ad dbrake fluid .Thisd oesn ot correct
the error.
Onlyc heck the brake fluid level when the vehicle
is stationar yand on alevel surface. The brake
fluid level is correct if the level is between MAX
mark :and MIN mark ;on the brake fluid
reservoir.

you can use achrom epolish. If you are unsure

First-aid kit
The first-aidkit is located in the stowage com-
partment of the right-hand door.
XRemove first-ai dkit: from the stowage
compartment.
Check the expiration date on the first-ai dkit at
least once ayear. Replace the contents if nec-
essary, and replace missing items.
Vehicle tool kit
General notes
iWhen they leave the factory,v ehicles are
not equipped with the tools neededtoc hange
aw heel, such as ajack or lug wrench. Some
tools for changing awheel are specific to the
vehicle. To obtai ntools approved for your
vehicle, contact aqualified specialist work-
shop.

The towing eyes can be used to pull the vehicle
ontoatrailer or transporter if you wish to trans-
port it.
XTurn the SmartKey to position 2in the igni-
tion lock.
XShift the transfer case to position Neutral
(Ypage 147).
XShift the automatic transmission to position
N .
As soon as the vehicle has been loaded:
XApply the parking brake.
XShift the automatic transmission to posi-
tion P.
XTurn the SmartKey to position uin the igni-
tion lock and remove it.
XSecure the vehicle.
Recovering avehicle thath as become
stuck
!
When recovering avehicle that has become
stuck ,pull it as smoothly and evenly as pos-
sible. Excessive tractive power could damage
the vehicles.
If the drive wheels have become stuck in loose
or muddy ground, pull the vehicle out with
extreme caution, especially so if the vehicle is
loaded.
Never attempt to recover astuck vehicle with a
trailer attached.
Pull out the vehicle backwards, if possible using the track sitmade when it became stuck.
Towing in the event of malfunctions
General notes
!If you are removing the propeller shaft, use
M10 nuts as spacers on the M8 bolts and
secure them with M8 nuts.
New self-locking nuts must be used when the
propeller shafts are refitted.
It is important that you observe the safety
instructions when towing away your vehicle
(
Ypage 246).

ter.
In the event of damage to the engine,
transmission or electrical system
XShift the transfer case to neutral
(Ypage 147).
XShift the automatic transmission to position
N .
In the event of damage to the transfer
case
Have the propeller shafts between the axles and
the transfer case removed.
In the event of damage to the front axle
Have the propeller shaft between the rear axle
and the transfer case removed.
Then have the vehicle towed away with the front
axle raised.
In the event of damage to the rear axle
Have the propeller shaft between the front axle
and the transfer case removed.
Then have the vehicle towed with the rear axle
raised and wheel rollers under the front axle.
Tow-starting (emergency engine
starting)
!
Vehicles with automatic transmission must
not be tow-started. You could otherwise dam-
age the automatic transmission.
You can find information on "Jump-starting"
under (
Ypage 243).
Fuses
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If you manipulate or bridge afaulty fuse or if
you replace it with afuse with ahigher amper-
age, the electric cables could be overloaded.
This could result in afire. There is arisk of an
accident and injury.
Always replace faulty fuses with the specified
new fuses having the correcta mperage.
