Only use the memory function on the
driver's side when theve hicle is station‐
ar y. &
WARNING Risk of entrapment when set‐
ting the seat with the memory function
When the memory function adjusts the seat
or steering wheel, you and other vehicle
occupants – particularly children – could
become trapped. #
During the setting procedure of the
memory function, ensure that no body
parts are in the sweep of the seat or
th esteering wheel. #
If somebody becomes trapped, immedi‐
ately release the memory function posi‐
tion button.
The adjustment process is stopped. &
WARNING Risk of entrapment if the
memory function is activated bychildren
Children could become trapped if they acti‐
va te the memory function, particularly when
unattended. #
Never lea vechildren unat tended in the
ve hicle. #
When leaving theve hicle, alw aysta ke
th eke y with you and lock theve hicle. The memory function can be used when
the igni‐
tion is switched off.
St oring
Seat adjustments for up tothre e people can be
st ored and called up using the memory function.
The following sy stems can be selected:
R Seat, backrest and head restra int
R Steering wheel
R Outside mir rors #
Set the seat, thesteering wheel and the out‐
side mir rors to the desired position. #
Press memory button M toge ther with one of
preset position buttons 1,2 or 3.
An acou stic signal sounds. The settings are
st ored. #
Tocall up: press and hold there leva nt pre‐
set position button 1,2 or 3 until the front Seats and

DANG ER Risk of poisoning from exhaust

Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
ga ses, such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
ga ses can enter theve hicle interior if the
re ar-end door is open when the engine is
ru nning, especial lyifth eve hicle is in motion. #
Alw ays switch off the engine before
opening there ar-end door. #
Never drive with there ar-end door
open. &

items in theve hicle
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured
or not secured suf ficientl y,they could slip, tip
ove r or be throw n around and thereby hit
ve hicle occupants.
There is a risk of injur y,particularly in the
ev ent of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction. #
Alw aysstow objects in such a wayth at
th ey cannot be thro wn around. #
Before the journe y,secure objects, lug‐
ga ge or loads against slipping or tipping
ove r. &
WARNING Risk of inju rydue toobjects
being stowed incor rectly
If yo u inadequately stowobjects in theve hi‐
cle interior, they could slip or be tossed
around and thereby strike vehicle occupants.
In addition, cup holders, open stowage
spaces and mobile phone brac kets cann ot
alw aysre stra in the objects they contain in
th eev ent of an accident.
There is a risk of injur y,particularly in the
ev ent of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction. #
Alw aysstow objects in such a wayth at
th ey cannot be tossed about in these or
similar situations. #
Alw ays make sure that objects do not
project from stowage spaces, luggage
nets or stowage nets. #
Close the loc kable stow age spaces
before starting a journe y. #
Alw aysstow and secure objects that
are heavy, hard, poin ted, sharp-edged,
fragile or too large in the boot. &
WARNING Risk of bu rning from theta il‐
pipe or tailpipe trim
The tailpipe and tailpipe trim can become
ve ry hot. If you come into contact with these
car parts, you could burn yourself. #
Alw ays be particular lycareful when in
th e vicinity of theta ilpipe and tailpipe
trims and supervise children very
closely when in this area. #
Before any con tact, allow the car parts
to cool down. 98

Driving, braking and
steering characteristics
ch ange depending on:
R type of load,
R weight
R the cent reof gr avity of the load.
Bear thefo llowing in mind when loading and
transpo rting loads:
R neverexc eed the permissible gross mass or
th e permissible axle loads forth eve hicle
(including occupants).
R position heavy loads as farfo rw ards as possi‐
ble and as low down in the load compart‐
ment as possible.
R the load must not pr otru de abo vethe upper
edge of the seat backrests.
R always place the load against the backrests
of the front seats or rear seats.
R always place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
R secure the load using the tie-down eyes and
distribute the load evenly. R
use tie-down eyes and fastening components
th at are suitable forth ewe ight and size of
th e load.
If th ere ar ben chseat is not occupied:
R insert the seat belts into seat belt buckles of
th e opposite seat belt in a diagonal pattern.
R secure the load with suf ficiently tear-resist‐
ant and wear-resis tant lashing ma terial.

Take the load compartment co ver1 out by
pulling it upwards. #
Toinstall: placethe load compartment co ver
1 into there cess 2ontheright- or left-
hand side. #
Press in the end cap of the load compart‐
ment co ver1 onthe opposite side and
insert the load compartment co ver1 into
th eot her recess 2. #

When you load thero of, the cent reof gr avity
of theve hicle rises and the usual driving ch
aracteristics as well as thesteering and
braking characteristics change. During cor‐
nering, theve hicle tilts more strongly and
may react more sluggishly tosteering mo ve‐
ments.
If yo uexc eed the maximum roof load, the
driving characteristics, as well as thesteer‐
ing and braking characteristics, will be
great lyimpaired. #
Alw ays comply with the maximum roof
load and adjust your driving style. &
WARNING Risk of inju ryif unsuitable
climbing aids are used
If yo u use vehicle body openings or add-on
parts as steps, thefo llowing can occur:
R You may slip and/or fall.
R You may damage theve hicle and then
fa ll. #
Alw ays use ‑non-slip, stable climbing

when using the cup holder while the

The cup holder cannot hold a container
secure while theve hicle is in motion.
If yo u use a cup holder while theve hicle is in
motion, the conta iner may be flung around
and liquids could be spilled. The vehicle
occupants may come into contact with the
liquid and if it is hot, they could be scalded.
Yo u could be distracted from traf fic condi‐
tions and you may lose cont rol of theve hicle. #
