Ve hicles with Intelligent Light Sy stem: The
headlamps are automatically swit ched over
when theve hicle enters countries where people
drive on theot her side of thero ad. Information about lighting sy
stems and your
re sponsibility The
various lighting sy stems of theve hicle are
only aids. The driver of theve hicle is responsible
fo r cor rect vehicle illumination in accordance
with the pr evailing light and visibility conditions,
legal requirements and traf fic situation. Light switch

The exterior lighting (e xcept standing and park‐
ing lights) swit ches off automatically when the

Au tomatic driving lights
The standing lights, dipped beam and daytime
ru nning lights are switched on au tomatically
depending on the ignition status, whe ther the
engine is running and on the light conditions. &
WARNING Risk of accident when the
dipped beam is switched off in poor visi‐
bility
When the light switch is set toà ,the
dipped beam may not be switched on auto‐
matically if there is fog, snow or other causes
of poor visibility such as spr ay.#
In such cases, turn the light switch to
L . The automatic driving lights are only an aid.

When the high beam is activated, the indica‐
to r lamp for low beam Lwill be deactiva‐
te d and replaced bythe indicator lamp for
high beam K. #
Toswitch off: pressthe combination switch
in the direction of ar row1or pull in the
direction of ar row3.
Headlamp flasher #
Pull the combination switch in the direction
of ar row3.
Tu rn signal indicators #
Toindicate briefl y:press the combination
switch briefly tothe point of resis tance in the
direction of ar row2or4.
The cor responding turn signal indicator will
fl ash thre e times. #
Toindicate permanentl y:press the combi‐
nation switch be yond the point of resis tance
in the direction of ar row2or4.
Ve hicles with Active Lane Change Assi st:
R Indicator operation activated bythe driver
can extend forth e duration of the lane
ch ange.
R Ifth e driver indicated directly beforehand
but a lane change was not immediately
possible, the turn signal indicator may
activate automaticall y. Ac
tivating/deactivating the hazard warning
lights #
Press button 1.
The hazard warning lights will switch on auto‐
matically if:
R the airbag has been deplo yed.
R theve hicle is heavily braked from a speed of
more than 70 km/h toast andstill. Light and sight

When
you pull away again, the hazard warning
lights will switch off automatically at appr ox‐
imately 10km/h. You can also swit choff the
hazard warning lights using button 1.
When the turn indicator is activated, the hazard
wa rning lights are inter rupte d. Intelligent Light Sy

stem function
The MULTIBEAM LED headlamps adapt tothe
driving and weather situation and pr ovide exten‐
ded functions for impr oved illumination of the
ro ad.
The sy stem comprises thefo llowing functions:
R Active headla mps (/ page160)
R Cor nering light (/ page 160)
R Motorw ay mode (/ page161)
R Enhanced fog light function (/ page161)
R Off- road light (/ page161)
The sy stem is active only when it is dar k.Ac
tive headlamps function R
The headlamps follow thesteering mo ve‐
ments.
R Releva nt areas are better illumina ted during
tra vel.
The functions are active when the dipped beam
is switched on.
Depending on theve hicle's equipment, the
cou rse of the lane in which you are driving is
also evaluated and the active headlamps func‐
tion adjusts the light in advance. Cornering light function
The cornering light impr
ovesth e illumination of
th e car riag ewa yove r a wide angle in the turning
direction, enabling better visibility on tight
bends, forex ample. It can be activated on ly
when the dipped beam is switched on.
The function is active under thefo llowing condi‐
tions:
R at speeds below 40 km/h when the turn sig‐
nal light is switched on or thesteering wheel
is turned
R at speeds between 40 km/h and 70 km/h
when thesteering wheel is turned 16 0

Ro
undabout and intersection function: the
cornering light is acti vated on bo thsides thro ugh
an evaluation of the cur rent GPS position of the
ve hicle. It remains active until af terth eve hicle
has left thero undabout or the intersection.
Mo torw ay mode function
Mo torw ay mode increases thera nge and bright‐
ness of the cone of light, enabling better visibil‐
ity. The function is active if a mo
torw ay jou rney is
de tected by:
R theve hicle's speed
R the multifunction camera R
the GPS
The function will not be active at speeds below
80 km/h.
Enhanced fog light function
The enhanced fog light function reduces glare
fo rth e driver and impr ovesth e illumination of
th e edge of the car riag ewa y. The function is active under
thefo llowing condi‐
tions:
R at speeds below 70 km/h when there ar fog
lights are switched on. The function is not active under
thefo llowing
conditions:
R at speeds abo ve100 km/h af ter activation.
R when there ar fog light is switched off.
Fu nction of the off-road light
The off- road light impr oves illumination during
off-road driving. The dipped beam is distributed
symmetrically and across a wide angle, and
brightness is increased slightl y.This makes it
easier tofind your wa y when driving off- road and
to detect obs tacles at an ea rly st age. The active
headlamps function is deactivated during this
time so that steering mo vements do not change
th e illumination.
The function is active when the dipped beam is
switched on if you do not drive abo ve50 km/h
and theF (Offroad) or G(Offroad Plus)
driving prog ramme has been selected.
Switching the Intelligent Light Sy stem on or
off
Requ irements:
R The ignition is switched on. Light and sight

The
vehicle in front will be illuminated bythe low
beam.
At speeds abo ve30 km/h:
R If no other road users are de tected, the high
beam will be switched on automaticall y.
R Ifot her road users are de tected, the partial
high beam will be switched on automaticall y.
At speeds below 25 km/h or when there is suf fi‐
cient stre et lighting:
R The partial high beam will switch off auto‐
matically.
R The high beam will switch off automaticall y.
At speeds abo veappr oximately 50 km/h:
R The headlamp range of the low beam is regu‐
lated automatically based on the dis tance to
ot her road users.
The sy stem's optical sensor is located behind
th e windscreen near theov erhead control panel. Switching

Switch on the main beam using the combina‐
tion switch.
When the main beam is switched on auto‐

5 Surround lighting
When Surround lighting is active,theex terior
lighting lights up for 40 seconds af terth eve hicle
is unloc ked. When youstart theve hicle, the sur‐
ro und lighting is deactivated and the automatic
driving lights are activated.
Illuminated running boards: WhenSurround
lighting is activated, there spective running
boards are also illumina ted when a door is
opened. The illumination of theru nning boards is
not bound tothe 40 second light-up duration of
th eex terior lighting. #

The inside
rearview mir ror and the outside mir‐
ro r on the driver's side automatically go into
anti-dazzle mode if light from a headlamp hits
th e sensor on the inside rearview mir ror.
Sy stem limitations
The sy stem does not go into anti-dazzle mode in
th efo llowing situations:
R the engine is switched off
R reve rsege ar is engaged
R the interior lighting is switched on Fu
nction of the front-passenger outside mir‐
ro r parking position %
The pa rking position is available on ly invehi‐
cles with the mir ror pac kage or memory
function.
The parking position makes parking easier.
In thefo llowing situations, the front-passen ger
outside mir ror swivels down wardinthe direction
of there ar wheel on the front passenger's side:
R the parking position is stored (/ page172)
R the front-passen ger mir ror is selected R
reve rsege ar is engaged
The front-passenger outside mir ror mo ves back
to its original position in thefo llowing situations:
R you shift the transmission toano ther trans‐
mission position
R you are tra velling at speeds greaterth an

Ve hicles without a 48 V on-board electrical
sy stem (EQ Boost tech nology)
The engine is switched off automatically in the
fo llowing situations if all vehicle conditions for
an automatic engine stop are me t:
R you brake theve hicle toast andstill in trans‐
mission position hori.
if yo u swit chon the HOLD function in transmis‐
sion position hori, the engine will automati‐
cally stop in thefo llowing situations:
R youstop behind a vehicle that is pulling
aw ay.
R youstop at a stop sign when there is no vehi‐
cle in front of you.
R you turn thesteering wheel hard at a low
speed.
% In transmission position k,the engine is
not switched off automatically even when
th e HOLD function is switched on. The engine is
restar ted automatically if:
R youre lease the brake pedal in transmission
position hwhen the HOLD function is not
active.
R you en gage transmission position hork.
R you en gage drive program B,For

ECO start/ stop function symbols in the multi‐
function display:
R the symbol è(green) appears when the
ve hicle is at a standstill: the engine was
switched off bythe ECO start/ stop function.
R the symbol ç(yellow) appears when the
ve hicle is at a standstill: not all vehicle condi‐
tions for an engine stop ha vebeen met.
R neither the symbol ènorç appear
when theve hicle is at a standstill: an intelli‐
ge nt stop inhibitor was de tected, e.g. a stop
