The re st ra int sy st em includes th e fo llowing:R

Child seat securing sy st em
The re st ra int sy st em can re duce th e ri sk of ve hi‐
cle occupants coming into contact with parts of
th e ve hicle interior in th e eve nt of an accident. In
th e ev ent of an accident, th e re st ra int sy st em
can also re duce th e fo rc es to which th e ve hicle
occupants are subjected.
A seat belt can only pr ov ide th e best le ve l of pro‐
te ction if it is wo rn cor re ctl y. Depending on th e
de te cted accident situation, Emergency Te nsion‐
ing Devices and/or air bags supplement th e pro‐
te ction of fe re d by a cor re ctly wo rn seat belt.
Emer ge ncy Te nsioning Devices and/or air bags
are not depl oy ed in eve ry accident. In order fo r th e re st ra int sy st em to pr ov ide th e
intended le ve l of pr ot ection, each ve hicle occu‐
pant must obser ve th e fo llowing information:R
Fa st en seat belts cor re ctl y.R
Sit in an almost up ri ght seat position with
th eir back against th e seat backrest.R
Sit with th eir fe et re st ing on th e fl oor, if pos‐
sible. R
Alw ay s secure persons under 5 ft (1.50 m)
ta ll in an additional re st ra int sy st em suitable
fo r Mercedes-Benz ve hicles.
Ho we ve r, no sy st em av ailable to day can com‐
ple te ly elimin ate in juries and fa ta lit
ies in eve ry
accident situation. In particular, th e seat belt
and air bag ge nerally do not pr ot ect against
objects penetrating th e ve hicle from th e outside.
It is also not possible to compl et ely ru le out th e
ri sk of injury caused by th e air bag deploying. Re duced re st ra int sy st em pr ot ection

The re st ra int sy st em can no longer function
cor re ctly af te r alterations ha ve been made.
The re st ra int sy st em may th en not pr ot ect
th e ve hicle occupants as intended by fa iling
in an accident or triggering unexpec te dly, fo r
ex ample

should not use th e front passenger seat.
Ins te ad, th ey should use a re ar seat.R
If th e front passenger seat is occupied with a
person of smaller st ature (e.g. a te enager or
small adult), th e PA SSENGER AIR BA G OFF
indicator lamp either lights up continuously
or re mains out, depending on th e re sult of
th e classification: -
PA SSENGER AIRB AG OFF is off: mo ve th e
front passenger seat as fa r back as possi‐
ble or a person of smaller st ature should
use a re ar seat.-
If th e PA SSENGER AIRB AG OFF indicator
lamp is lit continuously: a person of
smaller st ature should not use th e front
passenger seat.

WA RNING Risk of inju ry or death when
th e PA SSENGER AIR BA G OFF indicator
lamp is lit
If th e PA SSENGER AIR BA G OFF indicator
lamp re mains lit af te r th e sy st em self-test,
th e front passenger air bag is deactivated. It
will not be deplo ye d in th e ev ent of an acci‐ dent. In th is case, th e front passenger air bag
cann ot per fo rm its intended pr ot ective func‐
tion, e.g. when a person is seated in th e front
passenger seat.
That person could, fo r ex ample, come into
con ta ct wi th th e ve hicle interior, especially if
th e person is sitting to o close to th e cockpit.
If th e front passenger seat is occupied,
alw ay s ensure th at: R
The classification of th e person in th e
front passenger seat is cor re ct and th e
front passenger air bag is enabled or
deactivated in accordance with th e per‐
son in th e front passenger seat. R
The person is seated proper ly with a cor‐
re ctly fast ened seat belt. R
The front passenger seat has been mo ve d
as fa r back as possible.

ing situations and implement pre-em pt ive meas‐
ures to pr ot ect th e ve hicle occupants.
