Open loading "Oap 2 in the rear passenger
compartment until the loading "Oap locks in the
highest position (  page 148).Pull upwards and hold handle 7.
The connection to refrigerator box 4 is
unlocked.Slide the refrigerator box with handle 7 up
into the open through-loading feature.
Connection 4 and the electrical contacts of
refrigerator box 3 are inserted into sockets
5 and 6 of the through-loading feature.Once the refrigerator box has been connected
in the vehicle, push down handle 7.
The refrigerator box is locked.
Removing
Pull up and hold handle 7.Pull the refrigerator box with handle 7 up out
of sockets 5 and 6 of the though-loading
compartment.
Connection 4 and the electrical contacts of
refrigerator box 3 are separated from sock-
ets 5 and 6 of the through-loading feature.Opening and closing the stowage compartment of
the refrigerator box in the trunkTo open: pull the stowage compartment in
refrigerator box 1 out by the handle back-
wards in the direction of the arrow.
Stowage compartment 1 will be opened.To close: slide the stowage compartment in
refrigerator box 1 forwards in the direction
of the arrow.

&WARNING Risk of injury due to objects
being stowed incorrectly
If objects in the vehicle interior are stowed
incorrectly, they can slide or be thrown around
and hit vehicle occupants. In addition, cup
holders, open stowage spaces and mobile
phone receptacles cannot always retain all
objects within.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction.
Always stow objects so that they cannot
be thrown around in such situations.Always make sure that objects do not
protrude from stowage spaces, parcel
nets or stowage nets.Close the lockable stowage spaces before starting a journey.Always stow and secure heavy, hard,
pointed, sharp-edged, fragile or bulky
objects in the trunk/cargo compart-
ment.Observe the notes on loading the vehicle.&WARNING Risk of "Nre from placing objects
in the mobile phone storage compartment
Placing other objects in the mobile phone storage compartment could constitute a "Nre
hazard.
Apart from a mobile phone, do not place
any other objects in the mobile phone
storage compartment, especially those
made of metal.*NOTE Damage to objects caused by plac-
ing them in the mobile phone storage
compartment
If objects are placed in the mobile phone stor-
age compartment, these may be damaged by
electromagnetic "Nelds.
Do not place credit cards, storage
media, ski passes or other objects sensi-
tive to electromagnetic "Nelds in the
mobile phone storage compartment.*NOTE Damage to the mobile phone stow-
age compartment caused by liquids
If liquids enter the mobile phone stowage
compartment, the compartment may be dam-
aged.
Ensure that no liquids enter the mobile phone stowage compartment.
Always observe the notes for persons with elec- tronic medical aids (  page 37).
= Depending on the vehicle equipment, the
mobile phone will be connected to the vehi- cle\bs exterior antenna via the charging mod-
ule.
= The charging function and wireless connection
of the mobile phone to the vehicle\bs exterior
antenna are available only if the vehicle is switched on.

=Small mobile phones may not be able to be
charged in every position of the mobile phone cradle.
= Large mobile phones that do not rest "Oat in
the mobile phone cradle may not be able to be charged or connected to the vehicle\bs exterior
antenna.
= The mobile phone may heat up during the
charging process. This may also depend on
the applications (apps) currently open in the
background.
= To ensure more e"Pcient charging and connec-
tion with the vehicle\bs exterior antenna,
remove the protective cover from the mobile
phone. Protective covers that are necessary
for wireless charging are an exception.
Wirelessly charging a mobile phone in the front
Requirements
= The mobile phone is suitable for wireless
charging.

Depending on the vehicle\bs equipment, the vehi-
cle has the following options for wirelessly charg- ing a mobile phone in the cockpit:
= In the front stowage compartment
= In the stowage compartment of the cockpit
armrest
Example: wirelessly charging a mobile phone in thefront stowage compartment
Place the mobile phone as close to the center
of mat 1 as possible with the display facing
upwards.
Wirelessly charging a mobile phone in the front stowage compartment: when a charging symbol is
shown in the multimedia system, the mobile
phone is being charged. In addition, malfunctions
when charging the mobile phone are shown in the central display.
Wirelessly charging a mobile phone in the center console below the armrest: the mobile phone is
charging when the indicator lamp is lit. In addi- tion, malfunctions during the mobile phone\bs
charging process are shown by the indicator lamp
"Oashing three times.
\bThe mat can be removed for cleaning, e.g.
using clean, lukewarm water.

Example: vehicles with individual rear seats
Open the stowage compartment in the rear
center console.Place the mobile phone as close to the center of mat 1 as possible with the display facing
upwards.
When the indicator lamp at the front of the mobile phone system lights up, the mobilephone is being charged. In addition, malfunc-
tions during the mobile phone\bs charging proc-ess are shown by the indicator lamp "Oashing
three times.\bThe mat can be removed for cleaning, e.g.

Installing and removing "Ooor mats
&WARNING Risk of accident due to objects
in the driver\bs footwell
Objects in the driver\bs footwell may impede
pedal travel or block a depressed pedal.
This jeopardizes the operating and road safety
of the vehicle.
Stow all objects in the vehicle securely so that they cannot get into the driver\bs
footwell.Always install the "Ooor mats securely
and as prescribed in order to ensure that
there is always su"Pcient room for the
pedals.Do not use loose "Ooor mats and do not
place "Ooor mats on top of one another.
Installing "Ooor mats
Slide the corresponding seat backwards and
lay the "Ooor mat in the footwell such that it

Exterior lighting
Information about lighting systems and yourresponsibility
The various lighting systems of the vehicle are
only aids. The driver of the vehicle is responsible
for correct vehicle illumination in accordance with the prevailing light and visibility conditions, legal
requirements and tra"Pc situation.
Light switch

qOperating the light switch

When low beam is activated, the ` indicator
lamp for the side lamps will be deactivated and
replaced by the X low-beam indicator lamp.
Always park your vehicle safely using su"Pcient
lighting, in accordance with the relevant legal stipulations.*NOTE Battery discharging by operating the
parking lamps
Do not have the parking lamps switched on
over a period of several hours.
If the battery is insu"Pciently charged, the side
lamps or parking lights will be switched o"M auto-
matically to facilitate the next engine start.
The exterior lighting (except side lamps and park-
ing lights) will switch o"M automatically when the
driver\bs door is opened.
= Observe the notes on locator lighting

Switching on accident scene lightingSwitch o"M the vehicle.Switch on the hazard warning lights
(  page 166).Turn the light switch from the X position to
the X position.
The low beam will be switched on despite the vehicle being switched o"M.
The accident scene lighting will be switched o"M if:
= you switch o"M the hazard warning lights.
= you turn the light switch back to X.
= the battery is insu"Pciently charged.

q Automatic driving lights function
When the vehicle is switched on, the parking
lamps, low beam and daytime running lights will
be switched on automatically depending on the
ambient light.
&WARNING Risk of accident when the low
beam is switched o"M in poor visibility
When the light switch is set to X, the low
beam may not be switched on automatically if
there is fog, snow or other causes of poor visi-
bility such as spray.In such cases, turn the light switch to
X .The automatic driving lights are only an aid. You
are responsible for the vehicle lighting.

q Switching the rear fog light on/o"M
Requirements: = The light switch is in the X or X posi-
tion.
Press button ^ .
Please observe the country-speci"Nc laws on the
use of rear fog lamps.

Switching on high beamTurn the light switch to the X or X
position.Push the combination switch in the direction of arrow 1.
When high beam is activated, the indicator
lamp for low beam X will be deactivated
and replaced by the indicator lamp for high

Push the combination switch in the direction
of arrow 1 or pull it in the direction of arrow
3 .
Headlamp "Oashing
Pull the combination switch in the direction of
arrow 3.
Turn signals
To indicate brie"Oy: push the combination
switch brie"Oy to the point of resistance in the
direction of arrow 2 or 4.
The corresponding turn signal light will "Oash
three times.To indicate permanently: push the combina-
tion switch beyond the point of resistance in
the direction of arrow 2 or 4.
Vehicles with Active Lane Change Assist:
= A turn signal indicator activated by the
driver may continue to operate for the
duration of the lane change.
= If the driver indicated directly beforehand
but a lane change was not immediately
possible, the turn signal indicator may acti-
vate automatically.Activating/deactivating the hazard warning lightsPress button 1.
The hazard warning lights will switch on automati-
cally if:
= the air bag has been deployed.

Adaptive functions MULTIBEAM LED and DIGITALLIGHT

q Intelligent Light System function
With this system, the headlamps adapt to the driv- ing and weather situation. It also provides exten-ded functions for improved illumination of theroad.
\bThe availability of the functions is dependenton the country.
The system comprises the following functions:
= Active headlamps (  page 167)
= Cornering light (  page 167)
= Highway mode (  page 168)
= Enhanced fog light function (  page 168)
= Bad weather light (  page 168)
= City lighting (  page 168)
= Topographical compensation (vehicles with
DIGITAL LIGHT) (  page 168)
The system is active only when it is dark.

q Active headlamps function
=
The headlamps follow the steering move-
ments.
= Relevant areas are better illuminated during a
journey.
The functions are active when the low beam is
switched on.
Depending on the vehicle\bs equipment, the course of the lane in which you are driving will also beevaluated and the active headlamps function will
adjust the light in advance.

q Cornering light function
The cornering light improves the illumination of
the road over a wide angle in the turning direc-
tion, enabling better visibility on tight bends, for
example. The cornering light will be activated only when low beam is switched on.
The function will be active in the following cases:
= At speeds below 25 mph (40 km/h) when the
turn signal light is switched on or the steeringwheel is turned
= At speeds between 25 mph (40 km/h) and
43 mph (70 km/h) and when the steering
wheel is turned

Tra"Pc circle and intersection function: the corner-
ing light will be activated on both sides based on an evaluation of the vehicle\bs current navigation
position. It will remain active until a"ser the vehicle
has le"s the tra"Pc circle or intersection.

q Highway mode function (Canada)
Highway mode increases the range and bright-
ness of the cone of light, enabling better visibility.
The function will be active if a highway journey is
detected by means of:
= the vehicle\bs speed
= the multifunction camera
= the navigation system
The function is not active in the following cases:
= at speeds below 50 mph (80 km/h)

q Enhanced fog light function (Canada)
The enhanced fog light function reduces re"Oective
glare and improves the illumination of the edge of
the road.
The function is automatically activated under the following conditions:
= At speeds below 43 mph (70 km/h) and when
the rear fog light is switched on.
The function is automatically deactivated underthe following conditions:
= When speeds greater than 62 mph
(100 km/h) are reached.
= When the rear fog light is switched o"M.

q Function of the bad weather light (Canada)
The bad weather light reduces re"Oections in rainy
conditions by dimming individual LEDs in the headlamps. The driver and other road users aredazzled less as a result.

q The city lighting function (Canada)
City lighting improves the illumination of roadsides in urban areas using a broad distribution of light.
The function will be active in the following cases:
= At low speeds
= In illuminated parts of urban areas

q Function of the topographical compensation
Based on available map data, the lighting system
responds pre-emptively to di"Merent road heights.
This means that the headlamp range remains vir-
tually constant when you are driving on uphill or
