the SmartK eyfunctions If
yo u do not use theve hicle or a SmartK ey for
an extended pe riod of time, you can reduce the
energy consum ption of there spective Smart‐
Ke y . Todo so, deactivate the SmartK eyfunc‐

Carefully press the co ver onto the lock cylin‐

the trunk lid &
DANG ER Risk of exhaust gas poisoning
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
ga ses such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
ga ses can enter theve hicle interior if the
trunk lid is open when the engine is running,
especially if theve hicle is in motion. #
Alw ays switch off the engine before
opening the trunk lid. #
Never drive with the trunk lid open. *

Vehicles with HANDS-FREE ACCESS: Make
a kicking mo vement with your foot below the
bumper (→ page 69).
Tr unk lid automatic reve rsing feature
If an object obstructs the trunk lid during the
automatic closing process, the trunk lid will
open again automaticall y.The automatic reve rs‐
ing feature is on lyan aid and is not a substitute
fo ryo ur attentiveness. #
When closing, make sure that no body parts
are in the closing area. &
WARNING Risk of becoming trapped

The reve rsing function does not react:
R tosoft, light and thin objects, e.g. fingers.
R overth e last 00C2in (8 mm) of the closing

these situations in particular, there ve rsing
function cannot pr event someone being trap‐
ped. #

parts are in the closing area. #
If someone is trapped, use one of the

on the driver's door.
R Press the closing or locking button
on the trunk lid.

th HANDS-FREE ACCESS you can open, close
or inter rupt trunk lid mo vement byper form ing a
kicking mo vement under there ar bumper.
The kicking mo vement triggers the opening or
closing process alternately.
