% You can stop theve hicle and change the
transmission position du ring the parking pro‐
cedure. The sy stem then calculates a new
ve hicle path. The parking procedure can
th en be continued. If no new vehicle path is
av ailable, the transmission position will be
ch anged again. If theve hicle has not yet
re ached the parking space, the parking pro‐
cedure will be canceled, should a gear be
ch anged.
Exiting a pa rking space with Active Parking
Assist

Yo u can only exit a parking space with Active

Drive AwayAssist canreduce the se verity of an
impact when pulling away. If an obs tacle is
de tected in the direction of tra vel,th eve hicle's
speed is briefly reduced toappr ox. 1 mph
(2 km/h). If a critical situation is de tected, a

Drive AwayAssist cannot al ways clearly iden‐
tify objects and traf fic situations.
In such cases, Drive AwayAssist might:

speed.
#Alw ays pay careful attention tothe traf‐
fi c situation; do not rely on Driv eAw ay
Assist alone.

permits and that it is safe totake eva‐
sive action.
Drive AwayAssist is only an aid. It is not a sub‐
st itute foryo ur attention tothe sur roundings. Yo
u are alw aysre sponsible for safe maneu ver‐
ing, parking and exiting a parking space. Make
sure that no persons, animals or objects etc. are
in the maneuvering range.
A risk of a collision may arise in thefo llowing sit‐
uations, forex ample:

Sy stem limitations
Drive AwayAssist is notavailable on inclines. Fu

Ve hicles with Blind Spot Assis t:Dr ivers can
also be warned of any crossing traf fic when
back ing up out of a parking space. If a critical
situation is de tected, a warning symbol appears
on the camera image of the multimedia sy stem.
If th e driver does n
ot respond tothewa rning,
th eve hicle's brakes can be applied automati‐
cally. Todo this, the function uses thera dar sen‐
sors in the bumper. The area adjacent tothe
ve hicle is continually monitored.
If th era dar sensors are obstructed byvehicles
or other objects, de tection is not possible.
The Cross Traf fic Alert function is acti veunder
th efo llowing conditions:
RIf Blind Spot Assist is activated.
RIf th eve hicle is backing up at walking pace.
RIfth e maneuvering assis tance function is
acti vated in the multimedia sy stem.
The Cross Traf fic Alert function is not available
on inclines.

ATTENTION ASSIST
Fu nction of ATTENTION ASSIST
AT TENTION ASSIST assists you on long, mon oto‐
nous journe ys, e.g. on free ways and trunk roads.
If AT TENTION ASSIST de tects indicators of fati‐
gue or increasing lapses in concentration on the
part of the driver, it suggests taking a brea k.
AT TENTION ASSIST is only an aid. It cann ot
alw ays de tect fatigue or lapses in concentration
until too late. The sy stem is not a substitute for a
we ll-res ted and attentive driver. On long jour‐
ne ys,tak ere gular breaks in good time that allow
fo r ade quate recuperation.
Yo u can choose between two settings.
RStandard: normal sy stem sensitivity.
RSensitive: higher system sensitivity. The
driver is warned earlier and the attention
le ve l de tected byATTENTION ASSIST is adap‐
te d according ly.
If dr owsiness or increasing lapses in concentra‐
tion are de tected, the $ 7 7 ( 1 7 , 2 1 $ 6 6 , 6 7 7 D N H
D % U H D N warning appears in the Instrument Dis‐
pla y.Yo u can ackn owledge the message and
tak e a break where necessar y.Ifyo udo not take
a break and ATTENTION ASSIST continues to
de tect increasing lapses in concentration, you
will be warned again af ter a minimum of
15 minutes.You can ha vethefo llowing status information for
AT TENTION ASSIST displa yed in the assis tance
menu of the on-board computer:
RThe length of the journey since the last
break.
RThe attention le vel de term ined byATTENTION
ASSIS T.
If AT TENTION ASSIST is unable tocalculate the
attention le vel and cannot issue a warning, the

If a warning is given in the Instrument Displa y,
th e multimedia sy stem of fers to sear chfor a rest
area. You can select a rest area and start naviga‐
tion tothis rest area. This function can be activa‐
te d and deactivated in the multimedia sy stem.
If AT TENTION ASSIST is deactivated, theé
symbol appears in the assis tance graphic in the
Instrument Display when the engine is running.
AT TENTION ASSIST is activated automatically
when the engine is re-sta rted. The last selected
sensitivity le velre mains stored.

AT TENTION ASSIST is active in the37 mph
(60 km/h) to124mp h(2 00 km/h) speed range.
The functionality of ATTENTION ASSIST is
re stricted, and warnings may be dela yed or not
occur at all in thefo llowing situations:
RIf yo u ha vebeen driving for less than 30
minutes.
RIf th ero ad condition is poor (une venro ad
sur face or po tholes).
RIfth ere is a strong side wind.
RIfyo u adopt a sporty drivingst yle (high cor‐
nering speeds or high rates of acceleration).
RIfth eSt eering Assist function of Active Dis‐
ta nce Assist DISTRONIC is acti ve.
RIfth e time has been set incor rectly.
RIn acti vedriving situations, if youch ange
lanes and vary your speed frequentl y.
The ATTENTION ASSIST tiredness or alertness
assessment is dele ted and restar ted when con‐
tinuing the journey in thefo llowing situations:
RIf yo uswit choff the engine.
RIfyo u unfas tenyo ur seat belt and open the
driver's door (e.g. change drivers or take a
break).

Tr af fic Sign Assist detects traf fic signs wi thmul‐

ing de tected speed limits and overtaking restric‐
tions in the instrument clus ter.The camera also
de tects traf fic signs wi thare striction indicated
by an additional sign (e.g. in wet conditions).

Warning when the maximum permissible
speed is exceeded
The sy stem can warnyouif yo u unin tentional ly
exc eed the maximum permissible speed. Todo
th is, you can specify inthe multimedia sy stem
by how much the maximum permissible speed
can be exceeded before a warning is issued. You
can specify whe ther thewa rning is tobe just a
visual warning or an acoustic one as well. If the
automatic speed accep tance forAc tive Dis tance
Assist DISTRONIC is acti vated, thewa rnings are

RWhen theve hicle changes roads, e.g. free‐
wa yex it or slip road.
RWhen a village or city boundary is passed
which is stored in the digital map.
Traf fic Sign Assist is notavailable in all coun‐
tries. If it is una vailable, display 1is shown in
th e speedome ter.
Sy stem limitations
The sy stem may be impaired or may not function
in thefo llowing situations:
RThere is poor visibility, e.g. duetoinsuf ficient
illumination of thero ad, highly variable shade
conditions, or due torain, sno w,fog or heavy
spr ay.

RIfth ere is glare, e.g. from oncoming traf fic,
dire ct sunlight or reflections.
RThere is dirt on the windshield in the vicinity
of the multifunction camera or the camera is
fo gged up, damaged or obscured.

to dirt or sno w,or because they are co vered
or due toinsuf ficient lighting.
RIf th e information in the navigation sy stem's
digital map is incor rect or out-of-date .
RIfth e signs are ambiguous, e.g. tra ffic signs
on con stru ction sites or in adjacent lanes.

mals.
% As infrared light is not visible tothe human
ey e, Night View Assist canremain activated
when there is oncoming traf fic.
The infrared headlamps switch on in the
dark from speeds of appr oximately 5 mph
(10 km/h). This means that, while station‐
ar y, yo udo not ha vethe full visual range and
cannot check whe ther Night View Assist is
wo rking.
Sy stem limitations
Night View Assist cannot displ ayobjects directly
in front of or directly next totheve hicle. It may
be the case that objects are highlighted as well
as pedestrians or animals.
The sy stem may be impaired or may not function
in thefo llowing ins tances:
RPo or visibility, e.g. sno w,rain, fog or spr ay.
RThe windshield is dirty in the vicinity of the
came ra.
RThe camera is fogged up, damaged or cov‐
ered.
RThe infrared camera in thera diator grill is
damaged, dirty, fogged up or co vered.
ROn bends, on hilltops or in dips.
RAt high ambient temp eratures.
Pe destrian and animal de tection byNight
Vi ew Assist
Night View Assist can de tect pedestrians using
typical characteristics, e.g. the body conto urs
and posture of a person standing upright.
Lar geanimals, such as deer, co wsor horses can
also be de
tecte
d. Small animals such as dogs or
cats are not de tected.
Pe destrian and animal de tection is au tomatical ly
switched on when thefo llowing requ irements
are fulfilled:

Spotlight function
The spotlight function is an additional function
fo r Night View Assist . Itruns in the bac kground
and flashes the headlamps at de tected persons
wi th four short impulses. This att racts the driv‐

The pedestrian symbol in the assis tance graphic
indica testh est atus of the spotlight function. If
th e pedestrian symbol is displa yed dark 1,the

function are also fulfilled.
Sy stem limitations
The spotlight function does not flash at animals.
The spotlight function is not active or is active
only toa limited extent if:

oncoming vehicle or a vehicle in front.

Blind Spot Assist and Active Blind Spot

Function of Blind Spot Assist and Active
Blind Spot Assi st
Blind Spot Assist uses two lateral,rear-facing
ra dar sensors tomonitor the area up to130ft
(40 m) behind your vehicle and 10ft(3 m)
directly next to yourvehicle.
If a vehicle is de tected at speeds ab ove appr ox‐
imately 8 mph (12 km/h) and this vehicle subse‐
qu ent lyenters the monitoring range di rectly next
to yo urvehicle, thewa rning lamp in the outside
mir ror lights up red.
If a vehicle is de tected close to yourvehicle in
th e lateral monitoring range and you switch on
th e turn signal indicator in the cor responding
direction, a warning tone sounds once. The red
wa rning lamp in the outside mir rorflashes. If the turn signal indica
torre mains on, all other de tec‐
te dve hicles are indicated only bytheflashing of
th ere dwa rning lamp.
If yo uove rtake a vehicle quickl y,no warning is
given.

Spot Assist
Blind Spot Assist does notreact tovehicles
approaching and overtaking you at a greatly
di fferent speed.
As a result, Blind Spot Assist cannot warn
drivers in this situation.

ta nce at the side of theve hicle.
Blind Spot Assist and Active Blind Spot Assi st
are only aids. They may failto detect some vehi‐
cles and are no substitute for attentive driving.
