WARNING
The driver's attentio nto the road must always
be his/her primary focus when driving. For
your safety and the safety of others, we
recommend that you pull over to a safe
location and stop before placing or taking a
telephone call. If you choose to use the
telephone while driving, please use the hands-
free device and only use the telephone when
road, weather and traffic conditions permit.
Some jurisdictions prohibit the driver from
using a mobile phone while driving a vehicle.
Bear in mind that at a speed of just 30 mph
(approximately 50 km/h) , your vehicle covers
a distance of 44 feet (approximately 14 m)
every second. X
Switch on the mobile phone (see the
separate operating instructions).
X Switch on COMAND (Y page 294).
X Establish a Bluetooth ®
connection to
COMAND (Y page 377).
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Tel menu.
You will see one of the following display
messages in the multifunction display:
R Phone READY or the name of the network
provider :the mobile phone has found a
network and is ready to receive.
R Phone No Service : there is no network
available or the mobile phone is searching
for a network.
Accepting acall Example: incoming call

Dialing a number from the phone book

Activating/deactivating PRE-SAFE
®
Brake PRE-SAFE
®
Brake is only available in vehicles
with DISTRONIC PLUS.
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssistmenu.
X Press the 0006or0007 buttonto select
PRE-SAFE Brake .
X Press 000F.
The current selection is displayed.
X To activate/deactivate: press000F
again.
When PRE-SAFE ®
Brake is activated, the
multifunction display shows the 0001symbol
as long as the HOLD function is not activated
(Y page 195).
Vehicles with Active Parking Assist: if
PARKTRONIC is activated and you are driving
at a speed under 22 mph (35 km/h), the 0014
Active Parking Assist symbol is shown instead
of the 0001symbol (Y page 206).

Activating/deactivating ATTENTION
ASSIST X
Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the DriveAssistmenu.

Restoring the factory settings X

Instrument cluster Selecting the unit of measurement for
distance
The
Display Unit Speed-/Odometer: function allows you to choose whether
certain displays appear in kilometers or miles
in the multifunction display.
You can determine whether the multifunction
display shows some messages in miles or
kilometers.
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Settings menu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Inst. Cluster submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Display Unit Speed-/Odometer: function.
You will see the selected setting:

Selecting the permanent display function
You can determine whether the multifunction
display permanently shows your speed or the
outside temperature.
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Instr. Cluster submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Permanent Display function.
You will see the selected setting: OutsideTemperature or
Speedometer .
X Press the 000Fbutton to save the setting.
i Speed is displayed in mph.
Lights Setting the daytime running lamps

This function is not available in Canada.
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Settings .
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Lights submenu.
X Press 000Fto confirm.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select
Daytime Running Lights function.
If the Daytime Running Lights function
has been switched on, the cone of light and
the 0003 symbol in the multifunction
display are shown in red.
X Press the 000Fbutton to save the setting.

Switching Adaptive Highbeam Assist on/
off
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Settingsmenu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Lights submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm. X
Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Adaptive Highbeam function.
If the Adaptive Highbeam function has
been switched on, the cone of light and the
0002 symbol in the upper multifunction
display are shown in red.
X Press the 000Fbutton to save the setting.
When Adaptive Highbeam Assist is activated,
the 0002 symbol appears in the lower
multifunction display.

Setting the brightness of the ambient
lighting
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Lights submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Amb. Light +/-. function.
You will see the selected setting.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to adjust the
brightness to any level from Off to
Level 5 (bright).
X Press the 000For001F button to save the
setting.
Setting the ambient lighting color
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Lights submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Ambient Light Color function.

color to SOLAR ,
SOLAR Orange or

Activating/deactivating surround
lighting and exterior lighting delayed
switch-off
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Settingsmenu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Lights submenu.
X Press 000Fto confirm.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Surround Lighting function.
When the Surround Lighting function is
activated, the light cone and the area
around the vehicle are displayed in red in
the multifunction display.
X Press the 000Fbutton to save the setting.
Deactivating delayed switch-off of the
exterior lighting temporarily:
X Before leaving the vehicle, turn the
SmartKey to position 0in the ignition lock.
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
The exterior lighting delayed switch-off is
deactivated.
Delayed switch-off of the exterior lighting is
reactivated the next time you start the
engine.
If you have activated the SurroundLighting function and the light switch is set
to 0006, the following functions are activated
when it is dark:
R surround lighting: the exterior lighting
remains lit for 40 seconds after unlocking
with the key. If you start the engine, the
surround lighting is switched off and automatic headlamp mode is activated
(Y
page 126).
R exterior lighting delayed switch-off: the
exterior lighting remains lit for
60 seconds after the engine is switched off.
If you close all the doors and the trunkl id,
the exterior lighting goes off after
15 seconds.
i Depending on your vehicle's equipment,
when the surround lighting and delayed
switch-off exterior lighting are on, the
following light up:
R Parking lamps
R Low-beam headlamps
R Daytime running lamps
R Side marker lamps
R Surround lighting in the exterior mirrors
Activating/deactivating the interior
lighting delayed switch-off
If you activate the Interior Lighting Delay function, the interior lighting remains
on for 20seconds after you remove the
SmartKey from the ignition lock.
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to selec tthe Settings menu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Lights submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
X Press 0007or0006 to select the
Interior Lighting Delay function.
When the Interior Lighting Delay function is activated, the vehicle interior is
displayed in red in the multifunction
display.

Vehicle
Activating/deactivating the automatic
doo rlocking mechanism
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to selec tthe Settings menu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Vehicle submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
X Press 0007or0006 to select the
Automatic Door Lock function.
When the Automatic Door Lock function
is activated, the vehicle doors are displayed
in red in the multifunction display.
X Press the 000Fbutton to save the setting.
If you activate the Automatic Door Lock function, the vehicle is centrally locked above
a speed of around 9 mph (15 km/h).

Activating/deactivating the acoustic
locking verification signal
If you switch on the Acoustic Lock function,
an acoustic signal sounds when you lock the
vehicle.
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Settingsmenu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Vehicle submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Acoustic Lock function.
If the Acoustic Lock function is activated,
the 000D symbol in the multifunction
display lights up red.
X Press the 000Fbutton to save the setting. Activating/deactivating the radar sensor
system
X
Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Settings menu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Vehicle submenu.
X Press 000Fto confirm.

You will see the selected setting Enabled or

Convenience Activating/deactivating the EASY-
ENTRY/EXIT feature

WARNING
You must make sure no one can become
trapped or injured by the moving steering
wheel when the easy-entry/exit feature is
activated.
To stop steering wheel movement, move
steering wheel adjustment lever or press one
of the memory position buttons.
Do not leave children unattended in the
vehicle, or with access to an unlocked vehicle.
Children could open the driver's door and
unintentionally activate the easy-entry/exit
feature, which could result in an accident
and/or serious personal injury.
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Convenience submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm. Menus and submenus

Press 0007or0006 to select the Easy Entry/Exit function.
If the Easy Entry/Exit function is
activated, the vehicle steering wheel is
displayed in red in the multifunction
display.

Switching the belt adjustment on/off
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Convenience submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Belt Adjustment function.
When the Belt Adjustment function is
activated, the vehicle seat belt is displayed
in red in the multifunction display.
X Press the 000Fbutton to save the setting.

Switching the fold-in mirrors when
locking feature on/off
When you activate the Auto. MirrorFolding function, the exterior mirrors are
folded in when the vehicle is locked. If you
unlock the vehicle and then open a door, the
exterior mirrors fold out again.
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the Sett. menu.
X Press the 0007or0006 button to select the
Convenience submenu.
X Press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
X Press 0007or0006 to select the Auto. Mirror Folding function.
If the Auto. Mirror Folding function is
activated, the vehicle's exterior mirror is
displayed in red in the multifunction
display.
X Press the 000Fbutton to save the setting. 0002
To fold the exterior mirrors in or out
If you have switched on the function and you
fold the exterior mirrors in using button 0002on
the door, they will not fold out automatically
(Y page 122).
You can then only fold out the exterior mirrors
using button 0002. AMG menu in AMG vehicles

when in the manual gearshift program.

80 †, the oil temperature is shown in blue.
Avoid driving at full engine output during this
time.

SETUP shows the drive program, the ESP ®
(Electronic Stability Program) mode and the
SPORT handling mode.
X Press the 0004or0008 button on the
steering wheel to select the AMG menu.

SETUP is displayed.

X Briefly press the AMG button on the center
console (Y page 168).
RACETIMER Displaying and starting RACETIMER
The RACETIMER is only intended for use on a
closed race circuit. Do not use the function
on public roads. 0002
Lap
0003 RACETIMER You can start the RACETIMER when the
engine is running or if the SmartKey is in
position
2in the ignition lock.
X Press 0004or0008 on the steering wheel
to select the AMG menu.
X Press the 0006button repeatedly until the
RACETIMER is shown.
X To start: press the 000Fbutton to start the
RACETIMER.
Displaying the intermediate time X
Press the 0004or0008 button to select
Interm. Time .
X Press 000Fto confirm.
The intermediate time is displayed for five
seconds.

X Press 000Fto confirm New Lap .
i It is possible to store a maximum of
sixteen laps. The 16th lap can only be
completed with Finish Lap .Menus and submenus

Stopping the RACETIMER
X
Press the 001Fbutton on the steering
wheel.
X Press 000Fto confirm Yes .
The RACETIMER interrupts timing when you
stop the vehicle and turn the SmartKey to
position 1in the ignition lock. If you turn the
key to position 2or 3and then press 000Fto
confirm Start , timing is continued.
Resetting the current lap
X Stop the RACETIMER.
X Press the 0004or0008 button to select
Reset Lap .
X Press 000Fto reset the lap time to "0".
Deleting all laps If you switch off the engine, the RACETIMER
is reset to "0" after 30 seconds. All laps are
deleted.
You cannot delete individual stored laps. If
you have stopped 16 laps, the current lap
does not have to be reset.
X Reset the current lap.
X Press 000Fto confirm Reset .
Reset Race Timer? appears in the
multifunction display.
X Press the 0007button to select Yes and
press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
All laps are deleted. Overall statistics
0002
RACETIMER overall evaluation
0003 Total time driven
0027 Average speed
0026 Distance covered
0024 Maximum speed
This function is shown if you have stored at
least one lap and stopped the RACETIMER.
