Adjusting the climate mode settings
You can select the followin gclimate mode
settings in automatic mode:
FOCU Shigh airflow that is set slightly
cooler
MEDIUM medium airflow, standard setting
DIFFUSE low airflow that is set slightly warmer and with less draft 000F
button (example)
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press the 0006button.
X Press the 000Fbutton repeatedly until the
desired climate mode appears in the

Activating/deactivating Different temperatures can be set for the
driver's and front-passenger sides.
X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Turn controls 0002or0017 clockwise or
counter-clockwise.
Turn controls 0002or0017 clockwise or
counter-clockwise (Y page 141).
Only change the temperature setting in
small increments. Start at 72 ‡ (22 †). Setting the air distribution
Activating/deactivating X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press the 001Abutton repeatedly until the
desired symbol appears in the display.
The following air distribution settings can be
selected:
001F Directs air through the center and side
air vents
001E Directs the airflow through the
footwell air vents
0020 Directs air through the center, side and
footwell vents
0008 Directs air through the defroster vents
0019 Directs the airflow through the
defroster, center and side air vents 1

To deactivate: press the000Cbutton.
The indicator lamp in the 000Cbutton goes
out. The previously selected settings are
restored. Air-recirculation mode remains
deactivated.

The indicator lamp in the 000Cbutton goes
out. Airflow and ai rdistribution are set to
automatic mode.

X Turn the temperature controls to the left or
to the right on the control panel for the
climate control or clockwise or counter-
clockwise.

X Press the 001Cor001B button. MAX COOL maximum cooling
The MAX COOL function is only available in
vehicles for the USA. MAX COOL is only operational when the
engine is running.
X To activate: press the0002button.
The indicator lamp in the button lights up.
X To activate: press off-road button 0002
again.
The indicator lamp goes out. The previously
selected settings are restored. When you activate MAX COOL, climate
control switches to the following functions:
R
maximum cooling
R maximum airflow
R air-recirculation mode on Defrosting the windows
Windows fogged up on th einside X
Activate the cooling with air
dehumidification function 0007.
X Activate automatic mode 0006.
X If the windows continue to fog up, activate
the defrosting function (Y page 146).
i You should only select this setting until
the windshield is clear again.
Windows fogged up on the outside X
Activate the windshield wipers.
X Press the 001Abutton repeatedly until the
001F or001E symbol appears in the
display.
i You should only select this setting until
the windshield is clear again. Rear window defroster

WARNING
Clear all windows of ice or snow before setting
off. Otherwise, impaired visibility could

At high outside temperatures, open the air
vent and activate the "cooling with air
dehumidification" function. Otherwise,
temperature-sensitive items stored in the
glove box could be damaged. 0002

When automatic climate control is activated,
the glove box can be ventilated, for instance
to cool its contents. The level of airflow
depends on the airflow and air distribution
settings.
X To open/close: turn thumbwheel 0002

WARNING
When operating the climate control, the air
that enters the passenger compartment
through the air vents can be very hot or very
cold (depending on the set temperature). This
could cause burns or frostbite to unprotected
skin in the immediate area of the air vents.
Always keep sufficient distance between
unprotected parts of the body and the air
vents.Ifn ecessary, use the air distribution
adjustment to direct the air to air vents in the
vehicle interior that are not in the immediate
area of unprotected skin. 150

This switches Bluetooth ®
on 0013 or off 0003. Setting the system language
This functio nallows you to determine the
language for the menu displays and the
navigation announcements .The selected
language affects the characters available for
entry.
The navigation announcements are not
available in all languages. If a language is not
available, the navigation announcements will
be in English.
When you set the system language, the
language of the Voice Control System will
change accordingly. If the selected language
is not supported by the Voice Control System,
English will be selected.
X Press the 000Dbutton.
X Select Settings by turning
003E0012003Fthe
COMAND controller and press 0039to
confirm.
X Select Language and press
0039to confirm.
The list of languages appears. The 0021dot
indicates the current setting. X
Select the language by turning 003E0012003Fthe

COMAND loads the selected language and

X Example: to call up a favorite: press the

This calls up the predefined function.

the full screen with clock.

and Internet functions.

you can display some driving systems and
additional information in the COMAND
display.

menu (ABC) appears.

Overview The possible settings depend on the type of
seat and the vehicle model series. Using the

or the Seat menu item in the system menu,
you can call up the following seat adjustment
functions:
R For M-Class and GL-Class vehicles with
multicontour seats:

Moving the map and selecting the
destination

X To set the map scale: as soon as you turn
003E0012003F the COMAND controller, the scale bar
appears.
X Turn 003E0012003F until the desired scale is set.
Turning clockwise zooms out from the map;
turning counter-clockwise zooms in. X
To select adestination: press0039the
COMAND controller once or several times.
If COMAND is unable to assign a unique
address, you will see either the address
entry menu with the destination address or
a selectio nlist.
X Selec tadestination by turning 003E0012003Fthe
COMAND controller and press 0039to
confirm.
If the destination is within the limits of the
digital map, COMAND attempts to assign
the destination to the map.
If the destination can be assigned, you will
see the address entry menu with the
address of the destination. If not, you will
see the Destination From Map entry.
X To start route calculation: selectStart and press
0039to confirm.
