Cleaning the wheels
GWARNING
The water jet from a circular jet nozzle (dirt
blasters) can cause invisible exterior dam-
age to the tires or chassis components.
Components damaged in this way may fail
unexpectedly. There is a risk of an accident.
Do not use power washers with circular jet
nozzles to clean the vehicle. Have damaged
tires or chassis components replaced imme-
diately.
!Do not use acidic wheel cleaning productsto remove brake dust. This could damagewheel bolts and brake components.
!Do not park your vehicle for a long periodof time directly after cleaning, particularlyafter cleaning the wheel rim with wheelcleaner. Wheel cleaner can lead to theincreased corrosion of the brake discs andpads. Therefore, drive for a few minutesafter cleaning. By heating up the brakes, thebrake discs and pads dry. The vehicle canthen be parked for a long period of time.
Cleaning the windows
GWARNING
You could become trapped by the wind-
shield wipers if they start moving while
cleaning the windshield or wiper blades.
There is a risk of injury.
Always switch off the windshield wipers and
the ignition before cleaning the windshield
or wiper blades.
!Do not use dry cloths, abrasive products,solvents or cleaning agents containing sol-vents to clean the inside of the windows. Donot touch the insides of the windows withhard objects, e.g. an ice scraper or ring.There is otherwise a risk of damaging thewindows.
!Clean the water drainage channels of thewindshield and the rear window at regularintervals. Deposits such as leaves, petalsand pollen may under certain circumstances
prevent water from draining away. This canlead to corrosion damage and damage toelectronic components.
XClean the inside and outside of the windowswith a damp cloth and a cleaning productthat is recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.
Cleaning wiper blades
GWARNING
If the windshield wipers are set in motion
while you are cleaning the windshield, you
can be trapped by the wiper arm. There is a
risk of injury.
Always switch off the windshield wipers and
the ignition before cleaning the windshield.
!Do not pull the wiper blade. Otherwise, thewiper blade could be damaged.
!Do not clean wiper blades too often anddo not rub them too hard. Otherwise, thegraphite coating could be damaged. Thiscould cause wiper noise.
!Hold the wiper arm securely when foldingback. The windshield could be damaged ifthe wiper arm smacks against it suddenly.
XFold the windshield wiper arms away fromthe windshield.
XCarefully clean the wiper blades with adamp cloth.
XFold the windshield wiper arms back againbefore switching on the ignition.
Cleaning the exterior lighting
!Only use cleaning agents or cleaningcloths that are suitable for plastic lenses.Caustic, irritant or otherwise unsuitablecleaning agents or cleaning cloths couldscratch or damage the exterior lighting plas-tic lenses.
XClean the plastic lenses of the exterior lightswith a wet sponge and a mild cleaningagent, e.g. Mercedes-Benz car shampoo orcleaning cloths.

Cleaning the mirror turn signals
!Only use cleaning agents or cleaningcloths that are suitable for plastic lenses.Unsuitable cleaning agents or cleaningcloths could scratch or damage the plasticlenses of the mirror turn signals.
XClean the plastic lenses of the mirror turnsignals in the exterior mirror housing using awet sponge and mild cleaning agent, e.g.Mercedes-Benz car shampoo or with clean-ing cloths.
Cleaning the sensors
!If you clean the sensors with a powerwasher, make sure that you keep a distanceof at least 11.8 in(30 cm) between the vehi-cleand the power washer nozzle. Informa-tion about the correct distance is availablefrom the equipment manufacturer.
XClean sensorsCof the driving systemswith water, car shampoo and a soft cloth.
Cleaning the reversing camera
!Do not clean the camera lens and the areaaround the rear view camera with a powerwasher.
XOpen the camera flap (Ypage 159).
XUse clean water and a soft cloth to cleancamera lensC.
The camera flap closes:
Rif the ignition is switched off
Rif the camera system is deactivated
Rstarting at vehicle speeds above 6.2 mph(10 km/h)
Cleaning the exhaust pipe
GWARNING
The exhaust tail pipe and tail pipe trim can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of the vehicle, you could
burn yourself. There is a risk of burns.
Always be particularly careful and supervise
children closely around the exhaust pipe and
the exhaust pipe trims. Allow these compo-
nents to cool down before touching them.
!Do not clean the exhaust pipe with acid-based cleaning agents, such as bathroomcleaner or wheel cleaner.
XClean the exhaust pipe with a chrome careproduct tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Impurities combined with the effects of roadgrit and corrosive environmental factors maycause flash rust to form on the surface. Youcan restore the original shine of the exhaustpipe by cleaning it regularly, especially in win-ter and after washing.

Where will I find...?
Reflective safety jacket
Removing/replacing reflective safety
jackets
The reflective safety jackets are located in thesafety jacket compartments in the stowagecompartments of the front doors. There arealso safety jacket compartments in the stow-age compartments of the rear doors, in whichreflective safety jackets can be stowed.
XTo remove:pull out safety jacket bagCwith the reflective safety jacket by the loop.
XOpen safety jacket bagCand pull out thereflective safety jacket.
XTo stow:fold the reflective safety jacket,roll it up and stow it in safety jacket bagC.
XSlide safety jacket bagCalong the loweredge of the armrest into the safety jacketcompartment. Meanwhile, ensure that theloop hangs out well within reach.
iRemove a new reflective safety jacketfrom its packaging material before sliding itinto the safety jacket compartment. Thepackaging material may otherwise cause itto slip out or make removing it difficult.
Observe the legal requirements in each coun-try.

Vehicle tool kit
General notes
The vehicle tool kit can be found in the trunkor in the stowage well under the trunk floor.
Apart from certain country-specific variations,the vehicles are not equipped with a tire-change tool kit. Some tools for changing awheel are specific to the vehicle. For moreinformation on which tools are required to per-form a wheel change on your vehicle, consult aqualified specialist workshop.
Necessary tire-changing tools can include, forexample:
Rjack

XStop the vehicle on solid, non-slippery andlevel ground, as far away as possible fromtraffic.
XSwitch on the hazard warning lamps.
XSecure the vehicle against rolling away(Ypage 134).
XIf possible, bring the front wheels into thestraight-ahead position.
XSwitch off the engine.
XVehicles without KEYLESS-GO:removethe SmartKey from the ignition lock.
XVehicles with KEYLESS-GO:open the driv-er's door.The vehicle electronics are now in positionZ. This is the same as the SmartKey havingbeen removed.
XVehicles with KEYLESS-GO:remove theStart/Stop button from the ignition lock(Ypage 118).
XMake sure that the passengers are notendangered as they do so. Make sure thatno one is near the danger area while awheel is being changed. Anyone who is notdirectly assisting in the wheel changeshould, for example, stand behind the bar-rier.
XGet out of the vehicle. Pay attention to traf-fic conditions when doing so.
XClose the driver's door.
MOExtended tires (tires with run-flat
properties)
General notes
With MOExtended tires (tires with run flatcharacteristics), you can continue to drive yourvehicle even if there is a total loss of pressurein one or more tires. The affected tire must notshow any clearly visible damage.
You can recognize an MOExtended tire by theMOExtended marking which appears on thesidewall of the tire. You will find this markingnext to the tire size designation, the load-bear-ing capacity and the speed index(Ypage 283).
MOExtended tires may only be used in con-junction with an active tire pressure loss warn-ing system or with an active tire pressure mon-itor.
If a pressure loss warning messageappears in the multifunction display:
Robserve the instructions in the display mes-sages (Ypage 201)
Rcheck the tire for damage
Rif driving on, observe the following notes
The driving distance possible in run-flat modeis approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers)when the vehicle is partially laden and approx-imately 19 miles (30 kilometers) when thevehicle is fully laden.
In addition to the vehicle load, the driving dis-tance possible depends upon:
RVehicle speed
RRoad condition
ROutside temperature
The driving distance possible in run-flat modemay be reduced by extreme driving conditionsor maneuvers, or it can be increased through amoderate style of driving.
The driving distance possible in run-flat modeis counted from the moment the tire pressureloss warning appears in the multifunction dis-play.
You must not exceed a maximum designspeed of 50 mph (80 km/h).
When replacing one or all tires, please observethe following specifications for your vehicle'stires:

RThe "MOExtended" mark
If a tire has gone flat and cannot be replacedwith an MOExtended tire, a standard tire maybe used as a temporary measure. Make surethat you use the proper size and type (summeror winter tire).
Vehicles equipped with MOExtended tires arenot equipped with a TIREFIT kit at the factory.It is therefore recommended that you addition-ally equip your vehicle with a TIREFIT kit if youmount tires that do not feature run-flat charac-teristics, e.g. winter tires. A TIREFIT kit can beobtained from a qualified specialist workshop,for example.

Important safety notes
GWARNING
When you drive in emergency mode, the
handling characteristics are impaired. e.g.
when cornering, when accelerating strongly
and when braking. There is a risk of an acci-
dent.
Do not exceed the maximum specified
speed. Avoid any abrupt steering and driving
maneuvers as well as driving over obstacles
(curbs, pot holes, off-road). This applies, in
particular, to a loaded vehicle.
Stop driving in emergency mode if you
notice:
Rbanging noise
Rvehicle vibration
Rsmoke which smells like rubber
Rcontinuous ESP®intervention
Rcracks in the tire side walls
After driving in emergency mode, have the
rims checked by a qualified specialist work-
shop with regard to their further use. The
defective tire must be replaced in every
case.
TIREFIT kit
Important safety notes
TIREFIT is a tire sealant.
You can use TIREFIT to seal punctures of up to0.16 in (4 mm), particularly those in the tiretread. You can use TIREFIT at outside tempera-tures down to

XDo not remove any foreign objects whichhave penetrated the tire, e.g. screws ornails.
XRemove the tire sealant bottle, the accom-panying TIREFIT sticker and the tire inflationcompressor from the stowage well under-neath the trunk floor (Ypage 252).
XAffix partCof the TIREFIT sticker to theinstrument cluster within the driver's field ofvision.
XAffix partDof the TIREFIT sticker near thevalve on the wheel with the defective tire.
XRemove filler hose

Tire pressure not reached
If a tire pressure of 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi)has been achieved after ten minutes:
XSwitch off the tire inflation compressor.
XUnscrew the filler hose from the valve of thefaulty tire.
Note that tire sealant may escape when youunscrew the filler hose.
XVery slowly drive forwards or reverseapproximately 30 ft (10 m).
XPump up the tire again.
After a maximum of ten minutes, the tirepressure must be at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi).
GWARNING
If the required tire pressure is not reached
after the specified time, the tire is too badly
damaged. The tire sealant cannot repair the
tire in this instance. Damaged tires and a
tire pressure that is too low can significantly
impair the vehicle's braking and driving
characteristics. There is a risk of accident.
Do not continue driving. Contact a qualified
specialist workshop.
Tire pressure reached
GWARNING
A tire temporarily sealed with tire sealant
impairs the vehicle's driving characteristics
and is not suitable for driving at higher
speeds. There is a risk of an accident.
Adapt your driving style accordingly and
drive carefully. Do not exceed the maximum
permissible speed for a tire sealed with tire
sealant.
The maximum permissible speed for a tiresealed with tire sealant is 50 mph (80 km/h).The upper part of the TIREFIT sticker must beaffixed to the instrument cluster in the driver'sfield of vision.
!Residue from the tire sealant may comeout of the filler hose after use. This couldcause stains.
Therefore, place the filler hose in the plasticbag which contained the TIREFIT kit.
HEnvironmental note
Have the used tire sealant bottle disposed
of professionally, e.g. at a qualified special-
ist workshop.
If tire pressure of 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi)has been achieved after a maximum period often minutes:
XSwitch off the tire inflation compressor.
XUnscrew the filler hose from the valve of thefaulty tire.
XStow the tire sealant bottle and the tireinflation compressor.
XPull away immediately.
XStop after driving for approximately tenminutes and check the tire pressure withthe tire inflation compressor.The tire pressure must now be at least130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi).
GWARNING
If the required tire pressure is not reached
after driving for a short period, the tire is too
badly damaged. The tire sealant cannot
repair the tire in this instance. Damaged
tires and a tire pressure that is too low can
significantly impair the vehicle's braking and
driving characteristics. There is a risk of
accident.
Do not continue driving. Contact a qualified
specialist workshop.
iIn cases such as the one mentionedabove, contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center. Or call 1-800-FOR-MERCedes(in the USA) or 1-800-387-0100 (in Canada).
XCorrect the tire pressure if it is still at least130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi). See the Tire andLoading Information placard on the driver'sside B-pillar or the tire pressure table in thefuel filler flap for values.
XTo increase the tire pressure:switch onthe tire inflation compressor.

XTo reduce the tire pressure:depress pres-sure release buttonCnext to pressuregageD.
XWhen the tire pressure is correct, unscrewthe filler hose from the valve of the sealedtire.
XScrew the valve cap onto the tire valve ofthe sealed tire.
XTo remove the tire sealant bottle from thetire inflation compressor, press together thelocking tabs on the yellow cap.
XPull the tire sealant bottle out of the tireinflation compressor.
The filler hose remains attached to the tiresealant bottle.
XDrive to the nearest qualified specialistworkshop and have the tire changed there.
XHave the tire sealant bottle and the fillerhose replaced as soon as possible at aqualified specialist workshop.
XHave the tire sealant bottle replaced everyfour years at a qualified specialist workshop.
Battery (vehicle)
Important safety notes
Special tools and expert knowledge arerequired when working on the battery, e.g.removal and installation. You should thereforehave all work involving the battery carried outat a qualified specialist workshop.
GWARNING
Work carried out incorrectly on the battery
can lead, for example, to a short circuit and
thus damage the vehicle electronics. This
can lead to function restrictions applying to
safety-relevant systems, e.g. the lighting
system, the ABS (anti-lock braking system)
or the ESP®(Electronic Stability Program).
The operating safety of your vehicle may be
restricted.
You could lose control of the vehicle, for
example:
Rwhen braking
Rin the event of abrupt steering maneuvers
and/or when the vehicle's speed is not
adapted to the road conditions
There is a risk of an accident.
In the event of a short circuit or a similar
incident, contact a qualified specialist work-
shop immediately. Do not drive any further.
You should have all work involving the bat-
tery carried out at a qualified specialist
workshop.
For further information about ABS and ESP®,see (Ypage 57) and (Ypage 60).
GWARNING
Electrostatic build-up can lead to the crea-
tion of sparks, which could ignite the highly
explosive gases of a battery. There is a risk
of an explosion.
Before handling the battery, touch the vehi-
cle body to remove any existing electrostatic
build-up.
The highly flammable gas mixture forms whencharging the battery as well as when jump-starting.

Always make sure that neither you nor the bat-tery is electrostatically charged. A build-up ofelectrostatic charge can be caused, for exam-ple:
Rby wearing clothing made from syntheticfibers
Rdue to friction between clothing and seats
Rif you push or pull the battery across thecarpet or other synthetic materials
Rif you wipe the battery with a cloth
GWARNING
During the charging process, a battery pro-
duces hydrogen gas. If a short circuit occurs
or sparks are created, the hydrogen gas can
ignite. There is a risk of an explosion.
RMake sure that the positive terminal of a
connected battery does not come into
contact with vehicle parts.
RNever place metal objects or tools on a
battery.
RIt is important that you observe the
described order of the battery terminals
when connecting and disconnecting a bat-
tery.
RWhen jump-starting, make sure that the
battery poles with identical polarity are
connected.
RIt is particularly important to observe the
described order when connecting and dis-
connecting the jumper cables.
RNever connect or disconnect the battery
terminals while the engine is running.
GWARNING
Battery acid is caustic. There is a risk of
injury.
Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Do
not inhale any battery gases. Do not lean
over the battery. Keep children away from
batteries. Wash away battery acid immedi-
ately with plenty of clean water and seek
medical attention.
HEnvironmental note
Batteries contain pollutants.
It is illegal to dispose of
them with the household
rubbish. They must be col-
lected separately and dis-
posed of in an environmen-
tally responsible recycling
system.
Dispose of batteries in an
environmentally responsible
manner. Take discharged
batteries to a qualified spe-
cialist workshop or to a col-
lection point for used bat-
teries.
!Have the battery regularly checked at aqualified specialist workshop.
Comply with the service intervals in theMaintenance Booklet, or contact a qualifiedspecialist workshop for more information.
!Always have work on batteries carried outat a qualified specialist workshop.
Should it, in exceptional circumstances, beabsolutely necessary to disconnect the 12-volt battery yourself, please observe the fol-lowing:
RSecure the vehicle to prevent it from roll-ing away.
RSwitch off the ignition.
RDisconnect the negative terminal first andthen the positive terminal.
The transmission is locked in position]after disconnecting the battery.
After the work has been done, install thebattery and replace the cover of the positiveterminal clamp firmly.
Comply with safety precautions and take pro-tective measures when handling batteries.
Risk of explosion.
Fire, open flames and smoking areprohibited when handling the bat-tery. Avoid creating sparks.
