brake systems aredesigned forheavy
loads andhave componen tswith correspond-
ing properties. Thismay lead tonoise when
braking. Thiswilldepend on:
R Speed
R Braking force
R Ambient condition s,e.g. temperature and
humidity
The wear ofindividual componen tsof the
brake system, suchasthe brake pads/linings
or brake discs, depends onthe individual driv-
ing style andoperating conditions.
For this reason, itis impossible tostate amile-
age that willbevalid under allcircumstan ces.
An aggressive drivingstylewilllead tohigh
wear. Youcanobtain moreinformation onthis
from aqualified specialist workshop.
New andreplaced brakepadsanddiscs only

eral hundred kilometers ofdriving. Compen-
sate forthis byapply inggreater forcetothe
brake pedal. Keepthisinmind, andadapt your
driving andbraking accordingly duringthis
break-in period.
Exc essive heavybraking resultsincorrespond-
ingly highbrake wear.Observe thebrake sys-
tem warning lampinthe instrumen tcluster
and note anybrake status messages inthe
multifunction display.Especially forhigh per-

and have thebrake system checkedregularly . Driving
onwet roads
Hydr oplaning If
water hasaccumulated toac ertain depthon
the road surface, thereisad anger ofhydro-
planing occurring.
For this reason, inthe event ofheavy rainorin
condition sinw hich hydropla ningmayoccur,
you must driveinthe following manner:
R lower yourspeed
R avoid ruts
R avoid sudden steering movement s
R brake carefully
Driving onflooded roads !
Do
not drive through floodedareas.Check
the depth ofany water before driving
through it.Drive slowly through standing
water. Otherwise, watercouldenterthe
vehicle interior orengine compartmen t.It
can then damage theengine's orautomatic
transmission' selectronic componen ts.It
can also besucked inby the engine's air
intake connection andcause engine dam-
