Releasing seat belts
!Make sur ethat the sea tbeltisf ully rolled up.
Otherwise ,the sea tbeltorb eltt onguew illb e
trapped in the doo rorinthe seatmechanism.
Thisc ouldd amaget he door, the doo rtrim
panel and the sea tbelt. Damaged sea tbelts
can no longer fulfil lthei rprotective function
and mus tbereplaced. Visit aquali fied spe-
cialist workshop.
XPres sthe release button in the bel tbuckle,
hol dthe bel ttonguef irmlyand guide the belt
back.
Sea tbelta djustment
Mercedes-Ben zSLC 43 AMG: the seatbelt
adjustment function is not available.
The seat-bel tadjustment is an integral part of
the PRE-SAFE
®convenience function. Thisf unc-
tion adjusts the driver's and front-passenger
sea tbelttot he upper bod yofthe occupants.
The bel tstrap is tightened slightlyw hen:
Rthe belttongueise ngaged in the buckle and
Rthe ignition is switched on
The seat-bel tadjustment will apply acertain
retraction force if any slack is detected between
the vehicle occupant and the sea tbelt. Do not
hol dontot he seatbeltt ightly while it is adjust-
ing.
You can switch the seat-bel tadjustment on and
off in the on-board computer (
Ypage 174).
Beltw arning for the drive rand front
passenger
The 7 seatbeltw arning lamp in the instru-
ment cluster is areminder that al lvehicle occu-
pants mus twearthei rseatb elts. It may light up
continuously or flash. In addition, there may be
aw arning tone.
Regardless of whether the driver's sea tbelth as
already bee nfastened, the 7seatbeltw arn-
ing lamp lights up for six seconds each time the engine is started. If, afte rsix seconds ,the driver
or front-passenger sea tbelth as not bee nfas-
tened and the doors are closed, the 7seat
bel twarning lamp lights up .Assoon as the driv-
er's and front-passenger sea tbelts are fastened
or afront doo risopened again, the 7seat
bel tw arning lamp goeso ut.
If the driver's sea tbeltisn ot fastened afte rthe
engine is started, an additional warning tone will
sound. The warning tone switches off after six
seconds or once the driver's sea tbeltisf as-
tened.
If the vehicle' sspeed exceeds 15 mph
(25 km/h )once and the driver's and front-
passenger sea tbelts are not fastened, awarning
tone sounds. Awarning tone also sounds with
increasing intensity for 60 seconds or until the
driver or front passenger hav efastened their
sea tbelts.
If the driver or front passenger unfasten their
sea tbelts during the journey,t he seatbeltw arn-
ing is activated again.

heating level is set.

until all the indicator lamps go out.
iThe blower continues runnin gfor seven sec-
onds to cool down the heating elements.
iIf the battery voltage is too low, AIRSCARF
may switch off.
Problems with AIRSCARF
AIRSCARF has switched off prematurely or will
not switch on. The vehicle's electrical system
voltage is too low because too many electrical
consumers are switched on.
XSwitc hoff electrical consumers that you do
not need, such as the rear window defroster
or interior lighting.
XSwitc honA IRSCARF again.

GWARNING
You could lose control of your vehicle if you do the following while driving:
Radjust the driver's seat, head restraint,
steerin gwheel or mirrors
Rfasten the seat belt
There is arisk of an accident.
Adjust the driver's seat, head restraint, steer-
ing wheel and mirror and fasten your seat belt before starting the engine.
GWARNING
Children could injure themselves if they
adjust the steerin gwheel. There is arisk of
injury.
When leaving the vehicle, alwayst ake the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children unsupervised in the vehicle.
The electrically adjustable steerin gwheel can
still be adjusted when there is no SmartKey in
the ignition lock.
Adjusting the steering wheel man-
ually
GWARNING
If the steerin gwheel is unlocked while the
vehicle is in motion ,itcould change position
unexpectedly. This could cause you to lose
control of the vehicle. There is arisk of an
accident.
Before starting off, make sure the steering
wheel is locked. Never unlock the steering
wheel while the vehicle is in motion.

XPush release lever :down completely in the
direction of the arrow.
The steerin gcolumn is unlocked.
XAdjust the steerin gwheel to the desired posi-

The steerin gcolumn is locked.
XCheck if the steerin gcolumn is locked. When
doing so, try to push the steerin gwheel up or
down or try to move it in the fore-and-aft
direction.

XMake sure that the SmartKey is in position1
or 2in the ignition lock.
XPress button :for the left exterior mirror or
button ;for the right exterior mirror.
The indicator lamp in the corresponding but-
ton lights up in red.
The indicator lamp goes out again after some
time. You can adjust the selected mirror using
adjustment button =as long as the indicator
lamp is lit.
XPress adjustment button =up, down, to the
right or to the left.
The exterior mirror must be set to aposition
that provides you with agood overview of
traffic conditions.
The convex exterior mirrors provide alarger field
of vision.
The exterior mirrors are automatically heated
after startin gthe vehicle if the rear window
defroster is switched on and the outside tem-
perature is low. Mirror heating lasts up to 10
minutes.
iYou can also heat up the exterior mirrors
manually by switching on the rear window
defroster.
Folding the exterior mirrors in or out
electrically
XMake sure that the SmartKey is in position 1
or 2in the ignition lock.
XBriefly press button :.
Both exterior mirrors fold in or out.
iMake sure that the exterior mirrors are
always folded out fully while driving. They
could otherwise vibrate.
Folding the exterior mirrors in or out
automatically
If the "Fold in mirrors when locking" function is
activated in the on-board computer
(
Ypage 174):
Rthe exterior mirrors fold in automatically as
soon as you lock the vehicle from the outside.
Rthe exterior mirrors fold out again automati-
cally as soon as you unlock the vehicle and
then open the driver's or front-passenger
door.
iThe exterior mirrors do not fold out if they
have been folded in manually.
Exterior mirror pushed out of position
If an exterior mirror has been pushed out of
position, proceed as follows:
XVehicles without electrically folding exte-
rior mirrors: move the exterior mirror into
the correct position manually.
XVehicles with electrically folding exterior
mirrors: press and hold mirror-folding button
until you hear the mirror click into place
(
Ypage 89).
The mirror housing is engaged again and you
can adjust the exterior mirrors as usual
(
Ypage 88).

You can position the front-passenger side exte-
rior mirror in suchaway that you can see the
rear wheel on that side as soon as you engage
reverse gear. This settin gcan be stored using
memory button M?.
XMake sure that the SmartKey is in position 2
in the ignition lock.
XWith the exterior mirror on the front-
passenger side activated, use adjustment
button =to adjust the exterior mirror. In the
exterior mirror, the rear wheel and the curb
should be visible.
XPress memory button M? and one of the
arrows on adjustmentb utton=within three
seconds.
The parking position is stored if the exterior
mirror does not move.
XIf the mirror moveso ut of position, repeat the
steps.
Calling up astored parking position set-
ting
XTurn the SmartKey to position 2in the ignition
lock.
XAdjust the exterior mirror on the front-
passenger side using button ;.
XEngage reverse gear.
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger
side movestothe stored parking position.
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger side
movesb ack to its original position:
Ras soon as you exceed aspeed of 9mph

Storing settings
GWARNING
If you use the memory function on the driver's side while driving, you could lose control of
the vehicle as aresult of the adjustments
being made. There is arisk of an accident.
Only use the memory function on the driver's
side when the vehicle is stationary.
GWARNING
When the memory function adjust sthe seat or
steeringw heel, you and other vehicle occu-
pant s–p articularly children –could become
trapped. There is arisk of injury.
While the memory function is makin gadjust-
ments, make sure that no one has any body
partsint he sweep of the seat or steering
wheel. If somebody becomes trapped, imme-
diately release the memory function position
button. The adjustmentp rocess is stopped.
GWARNING
Children could becom etrapped if the yacti-
vate the memory function ,particularly when
unattended. There is arisk of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always tak ethe
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children unsupervised in the vehicle.
The memory function can be used at any time,
e.g. even when the SmartKey isn' tinthe ignition
lock.
With the memory function ,you can store up to
three differents ettings, e.g. for three different
people.
The followings ettings are stored as asingle
memory preset:

Rdriver's side: steeringw heel position
Rdriver's side: position of the exterior mirrors
on the driver's and front-passenger sides
