If you remove the warning stickers, you or
others could be injured by failing to recognise
certain dangers.
When driving yourv ehicle observe the follow-

! Follow the instructions in this manual
about the proper operation of your vehicle
as well as about possible vehicle damage.
Damage to your vehicle that arises from
culpable contraventions against these
instructions are not covered either by
Mercedes-Benzi mplied warranty or by the
New or Used-Vehicle Warranty. Data stored in the vehicle
Fault data
Components critical for vehicle operation are
equipped with fault data memories as stand-
ard. There are also data storage devices
which record the technical reactions of vehi-
cle components to certain driving situations
(e.g. airbag deployment or ESP ®
interven-
tion).
This data is used exclusively to:
R assist in the rectificatio noffaults and
defects
R help Mercedes-Ben zoptimise and develop
vehicle functions
The data cannot be used to trace the vehicle's
movements.
When your vehicle is serviced by Mercedes-
Benz, this technical information can be read
out from the fault memory. This is performed
by authorised employees of the Mercedes- Ben
zservice network using special diagnos-
tic computers.
After a fault has been rectified, the informa-
tion is deleted from the memory. Other mem-
ory data is constantly overwritten. Other devices that store data
Depending on the equipment level, your vehi-
cle may feature communications and/or
entertainment systems (e.g. navigation devi-
ces, telephone systems). These allow you to
save and edit data required for the operation
of the respective device.
Further information on operation (e.g. on
deleting data) can be found in the separate

only use a forward-facin gchild restraint
system on the front-passenger seat and
move the front-passenger seat to the rear-
most position.
R have the automatic child seat recognition
checked at a qualified specialist workshop.
To ensure that the automatic child seat rec-
ognition on the front-passenger seat func-
tions/communicates correctly, never place
objects, e.g. a cushion, under the child
restraint system. The entire base of the child
restraint system must always rest on the seat
cushion. An incorrectly fitted child restraint
system cannot perform its intended protec-
tive function in the event of an accident, and
could lead to injuries.
i If the front-passenger front airbag is dis-
abled by the automatic child seat recogni-
tion, the following remain enabled on the
front-passenger side:
R the sidebag
R the headbag
R the belt tensioner G
WARNING
Do not place electronic devices on the front-
passenger seat, e.g.:
R laptops, when switched on
R mobile phones
R cards with transponders, e.g. ski passes or
access cards
Signals from electronic equipment can cause
interference in the automatic child seat rec-
ognition sensor system. This can lead to a
system malfunction. Due to the interfering
signal, the _PASSENGER AIRBAG ON
indicator lamp, the 4PASSENGER AIR-
BAG OFF indicator lamp and the 6SRS
warning lamp may all light up simultaneously.
The 4 PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicator
lamp may light up without achild seat with
automatic child seat recognition being fitted.
The front-passenger airbag will not deploy
during an accident. When you switch on the ignition, it is also
possible that:
R the 6 SRS warning lamp lights up
R the 4 PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indica-
tor lamp does not light up briefly
R the _ PASSENGER AIRBAG ON indica-
tor lamp does not light up, or lights up and
does not go out after 60 seconds. 50

Problems with child seat recognition

Risk of injury
There is no child seat fitted to the front-passenger seat. Automatic
child seat recognition is malfunctioning.
When you switch on the ignition, it is also possible that:
R the 6 SRS warning lamp lights up.
R The a PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicator lamp does not
light up briefly.
R The _ PASSENGER AIRBAG ON indicator lamp does not light
up, or lights up and does not go out after 60 seconds.
X Remove electronic equipment from the front-passenger seat,
e.g.
R laptop
R mobile phone
R cards with transponders, such as ski passes or access cards
If the 4 PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicator lamp is still lit:
X Visit a qualified specialist workshop. Suitable positioning of the child restraint systems

UF Suitable for forward-facing child restraint systems that belong to the "Universal" category and are approved for use in this weigh tcategory.
LS uitable for child restraint systems as recommended, see the following table of "Recom-

When it is dark, the surround lighting also
comes on if it is activated in the on-board
computer (Y page 192).
You can also set an audible signal to confirm
that the vehicle has been locked. The audible
signal can be activated and deactivated using
the on-board computer (Y page 193).
X To unlock centrally: press the%but-
ton.
If you do not open the vehicle within approx-
imately 40 seconds of unlocking:
R the vehicle is locked again.
R the anti-theft system is primed again.
X To lock centrally: press the&button. KEYLESS-GO
Important notes on the use of KEYLESS-
GO R
Do not keep the KEYLESS-GO key together
with:
- electronic devices, e.g. a mobile phone
or another key
- metallic objects, e.g. coins or metal foil
This can affect the functionality of KEY-
LESS-GO.
R Bear in mind that the engine can be started
by any of the vehicle occupants if there is
a KEYLESS-GO key in the vehicle.
Locking and unlocking centrally You can start, lock or unlock the vehicle using
KEYLESS-GO. To do this, you only need carry
the key with you. You can combine the KEY-
LESS-GO functions with those of a conven-
tional key, e.g. using KEYLESS-GO to unlock
and pressing the &button to lock.
When locking or unlocking with KEYLESS-GO,
the distance between the key and the corre-
sponding door handle must not be greater
than 1 m. KEYLESS-GO checks whether a valid key is in
the vehicle by periodically establishing a radio
connection between the vehicle and the key.
This happens:
R when the external door handles are
touched
R when starting the engine
R while the vehicle is in motion X
To unlock the vehicle: touch the inner
surface of the door handle.
X To lock the vehicle: touch sensor sur-
face :.
X Convenience closing feature: touch
recessed sensor surface ;for an exten-
ded period (Y page 77).
If you pull on the handle of the boot lid, only
the boot of the vehicle is unlocked. Changing the settings of the locking
system
You can change the settings of the locking
system so that when unlocking, only the driv-
er's door, the lockable stowage compart-
ments in the vehicle interior and the fuel filler
flap are unlocked. This is useful if you fre-
quently travel on your own.
X To change the setting: press and hold
down the %and& buttons simulta-
neously for approximately six seconds until
the battery check lamp flashes twice
