The dis tance between the trailer hitch and thero ad
sur face on an unladen vehicle depends on the
ve hicle type and theve hicle's equipment. Thus, it
cann otbe speci/ed. The distance tothero ad sur-
fa ce of a laden vehicle is between 350 mm and
420 mm. T

towing a trailer, the permissible gross vehi-
cle weight is increased by100 kg forve hicles with
passen gerve hicle appr oval. The maximum permis-
sible rear axle load may be exceeded by150 kg
when towing a trailer.
The road speed of theve hicle must be limi tedto a
maximum of 100 km/h in accordance with Direc-
tive 92/21/EEC.
The permissible weights and loads which must not

passenger airbag is disabled
If th e front passenger airbag is disabled, It will not be deplo yed in
th eeve nt of an accident and cannot per form its intended pr otec-
tive function.
A person in the front passenger seat could then, forex ample,
come into contact with theve hicle interior, especially if the person
is sitting too close tothe dashboa rd. #
Beawa reofthe status of the front passenger airbag bo th
before and during the journe y. #
Stop theve hicle immediately in accordance with the tra1c condi-
tions. #
Secure theve hicle against rolling away. #
Ensure that no objects ha vebecome trapped beneath the front
passenger seat. #

Waitfor at least one minute until the necessary system checks
ha ve been comple ted. #
Ensure that the display does not show either of the two display
messages about the front passenger airbag.
If th ese conditions are met, the front passenger seat can be occupied
again.
If th ese conditions are not met, the automatic front passenger airbag
actuation is malfunctioning. #

fa cing child restraint system while the front passenger airbag
is enabled
If yo u secure a child in a rear wa rd-facing child restraint system on
th e front passenger seat and thePA SSENGER AIR BAG OFF indi-
ca tor lamp is o., the front passenger airbag can deploy in the
eve nt of an accident.
The child could be struck bythe airbag. #
Always ensu rethat the front passenger airbag is disabled.
The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator la mpmust be lit. #
NEVER use a rear wa rd-facing child restraint system on a
seat wi than ENABLED FRONT AIR BAG. This can result in the
DEATH of or SERIOUS INJURY tothe CHILD. #
Stop theve hicle immediately in accordance with the tra1c condi-
tions. #
Secure theve hicle against rolling away. #
Ensure that no objects ha vebecome trapped beneath the front
passenger seat. #
Switch o. theve hicle. #
Open the front passenger door. #
Remo vethech ild and thech ild restraint system from the front
passenger seat. #
Make sure there are no objects applying additional weight tothe
seat.
The system may otherwise de tect the additional weight and inter-
pr et theve hicle occupant's weight on the front passenger seat as
gr eater than it actual lyis. #
Make sure that the front passenger seat is unoccupied, close the
front passenger door and switch on theve hicle. #

Solutions passenger airbag actuation has disabled
the front passenger
airbag.
R The display must not show the messages Front-passenger air-
bag enabled See Owner's Manual orFront-passenger airbag
disabled See Owner's Manual . #
Waitfor at least one minute until the necessary system checks
ha ve been comple ted. #
Ensure that the display does not show either of the two display
messages about the front passenger airbag.
If th ese conditions are met, the front passenger seat can be occupied
again. Obser vethe no tes on seat occupancy recognition and the
re sult of the classi/cation of the automatic front passenger airbag
actuation (/ page 35).
If th ese conditions are not met, the automatic front passenger airbag
actuation is malfunctioning. #
Fitth ech ild restraint system toa suitable rear seat.

Seat a person of small stature on a suitable rear seat. #

If yo ure st your foot on the brake pedal during while driving, the
brake system may overheat.
This increases the braking distance and the brake system may
ev en fail. #
Never use the brake pedal as a foot re st. #
Do not press the brake pedal and accelerator pedal simulta-
neously while driving. #
Drive on carefull y.
When the brake system has cooled down, the display message will
disappear. Traction cont rol will then be fully operational again.
