Open the fuel tank filler tube by slowly
turning the cap anticlockwise.
1- Remove
2- Close
4. While filling with fuel, hang the fuel cap
cord on the hook located on the inside of
the fuel tank filler door.
CAUTIONl Since the fuel system may be under pressure,
remove the fuel cap slowly. This relieves any pressure or vacuum that might have
built up in the fuel tank. If you hear a hissing sound from the cap, wait until it stops before
removing the cap. Otherwise, fuel may spray
out, injuring you or others.
5. Insert the gun in the tank port as far as it
goes.
CAUTIONl Do not tilt the gun.
6.
When the gun stops automatically, do
not fill with fuel any more.
7. Close the fuel cap. To close, turn the fuel cap slowly clock-
wise until you hear clicking sounds, then
gently push the fuel tank filler door
closed.

the vehicle without an external antenna
may cause electrical system interference,
which could lead to unsafe vehicle oper- ation.
l Tyres and wheels which do not meet
specifications must not be used.

For economical driving, there are some tech- nical requirements that have to be met. Theprerequisite for low fuel consumption is a
properly adjusted engine. In order to achieve longer life of the vehicle and the most eco- nomical operation, we recommend you tohave the vehicle checked at regular intervals in accordance with the service standards.
Fuel economy and generation of exhaust gas
and noise are highly influenced by personal
driving habits as well as the particular operat- ing conditions. The following points shouldbe observed in order to minimize wear of
brakes, tyres and engine as well as to reduce
environmental pollution.
Starting the engine
Avoid sudden acceleration and sudden starts,
as they will increase fuel consumption.
Shifting
Shift only at an appropriate speed and engine speed. Always use the highest shift position
possible.
Selecting the 4WD drive mode
(4WD vehicles)
The drive mode-selector should be set to
“2WD” when driving on normal roads and
express ways to obtain best possible fuel
economy.
City traffic
Frequent starting and stopping increases the
average fuel consumption. Use roads with smooth traffic flow whenever possible. When driving on congested roads, avoid use of a
low shift position at high engine speeds.
Idling
The vehicle consumes fuel even during
idling. Avoid extended idling whenever pos- sible.
Speed
At higher vehicle speed, more fuel is con- sumed. Avoid driving at full speed. Even a
slight release of the accelerator pedal will save a significant amount of fuel.
Tyre inflation pressure
Check the tyre inflation pressures at regular
intervals. Low tyre inflation pressure increa-ses road resistance and fuel consumption. In addition, low tyre pressures adversely affect
tyre wear and driving stability.
Cargo loads
Do not drive with unnecessary articles in the
luggage compartment. Especially during city
driving where frequent starting and stopping is necessary, the increased weight of the ve-
hicle will greatly affect fuel consumption. Al-
so avoid driving with unnecessary luggage or carriers, etc., on the roof; the increased air re- sistance will increase fuel consumption.
Cold engine starting
Starting of a cold engine consumes more fuel.
Unnecessary fuel consumption is also caused by keeping a hot engine running. After the
engine is started, commence driving as soon
as possible.
Air conditioning
The use of the air conditioning will increase the fuel consumption.

WARNINGlImproperly operating this vehicle on or
off-paved roads can cause an accident or
rollover in which you and your passengers
could be seriously injured or killed.
• Follow all instructions and guidelines in
the owner’s manual.
• Keep your speed low and do not drive
faster than conditions allow you to.NOTEl Driving on rough roads can be hard on a ve-
hicle. Before you leave paved roads, be sure all scheduled maintenance and service has
been done, and that you have inspected your vehicle. Pay special attention to the condi- tion of the tyres, and check the tyre pres-
sures.

to the operator for any damage or injury caused or liability incurred by improper and
negligent operation of a vehicle. All techni- ques of vehicle operation depend on the skill and experience of the operator and other par-
ticipating parties. Any deviation from the recommended operating instructions above
is at their own risk.
l Note that the stopping distance required of a
4-wheel drive vehicle differs very little from
that of a 2-wheel drive vehicle. When driv-
ing on a snow-covered road or a slippery, muddy surface, make sure that you keep a
sufficient distance between your vehicle and the one ahead of you.NOTEl The driving posture should be more upright;
adjust the seat to a good position for easy
steering and pedal operation. Be sure to wear
the seat belt.
l After driving on rough roads, check each
part of the vehicle and wash it thoroughlywith water. Refer to the “Inspection andmaintenance following rough road opera-
tion” section and “Maintenance” section.CAUTIONl Setting the drive mode-selector to “4WD
LOCK” to drive on dry paved road will in-
crease fuel consumption, with possible noise generation.
Turning sharp corners
When turning a sharp corner in “4WD
LOCK” position at low speed, a slight differ- ence in steering may be experienced similar
to as if the brakes were applied. This is called tight corner braking and results from each of
the 4 tyres being at a different distance from
the corner. The phenomenon is typical of 4- wheel drive vehicles. If this occurs, either
straighten out the steering wheel, or change to “2WD” or “4WD AUTO” mode.
On snowy or icy roads
Set the drive mode-selector to “4WD AUTO”
or “4WD LOCK” in accordance with the road conditions, and then gradually depress the accelerator pedal for a smooth start.
NOTEl The use of snow tyres is recommended.
l Maintain a safe distance between vehicles,
avoid sudden braking, and use engine brak- ing (downshifting).CAUTIONl Avoid sudden braking, sudden acceleration
and sharp turning. Skidding occurs and con-
trol of the vehicle could be lost.
Driving on sandy or muddy
roads
Set the drive mode-selector to “4WD LOCK”
and then gradually depress the accelerator pedal for a smooth start. Keep the pressure on
the accelerator pedal as constant as possible,
and drive at low speed.

lCarefully wash the vehicle with water.
Drive the vehicle slowly while lightly depressing the brake pedal in order to
dry out the brakes. If the brakes still do not function properly, we recommend
you to have the brakes checked as soon as possible.
l Remove the insects, dried grass, etc.
clogging the radiator core.
l After driving through water, check the
engine, transmission and differential oil. If the oil or grease is milky or cloudy be-
cause of water contamination, it must be
replaced with new oil or grease.
l Check the inside of the vehicle. If water
entry is found, dry the carpet etc.
l Inspect the headlamps, If the headlamp
bulb is flooded with water, we recom-
mend you to have it drained.Cautions on handling of 4-

Tyres and wheels
Since the driving torque can be applied to the
4 wheels, the driving performance of the ve- hicle when operating in 4-wheel drive is
greatly affected by the condition of the tyres.

Pay close attention to the tyres.
l Install only the specified tyres on all
wheels. Refer to “Tyres and wheels” on page 11-12.
l Be sure all 4 tyres and wheels are the
same size and type.
When it is necessary to replace any of
the tyres or wheels, replace all 4 tyres.
l All tyres should be rotated before the
wear difference between the front and
rear tyres is recognizable.
Good vehicle performance cannot be expec- ted if there is a difference in wear between tyres. Refer to “Tyre rotation” on page 10-14.
l Check the tyre inflation pressure regular-
ly.CAUTIONl Always use tyres of the same size, same
type, and same brand, and which have no wear differences. Using tyres of differentsize, type, brands or degree of wear, will in-
crease the differential oil temperature, result-
ing in possible damage to the driving sys-
tem. Further, the drive train will be subjec- ted to excessive loading possibly leading tooil leakage, component seizure, or other seri-
ous faults.TowingCAUTIONl Do not tow 4-wheel drive vehicles with the
front or rear wheels on the ground (Type Aor Type B) as illustrated. This could result in
damage to the drivetrain, or unstable towing.
If you tow 4-wheel drive vehicles, use Type C or Type D equipment.
l Even in “2WD” drive mode, the vehicle can-
not be towed with the front or the rear wheels on the ground.

NOTElWhen injecting the sealant, position the
valve away from the bottom, i.e., away from
the point where the tyre touches the ground. If the valve is near the point where the tyre touches the ground, the sealant may not gointo the tyre easily.
12. After injecting the sealant, pull the hose
off the valve, remove any residual seal- ant from the valve, rim and/or tyre.
Fit the valve insert (J) into the valve (H),
and screw the valve insert securely into
place using the valve remover (I).NOTEl When removing and screwing in the valve
insert using the valve remover, turn the valve remover by hand. Using a tool to turn the valve remover could damage it.13. Pull out the compressor hose (M) from
the side of the tyre compressor, and then
securely attach the hose to the tyre valve (H).
14. Place the compressor (N) with its air
pressure gauge (O) on top.
Pull out the compressor’s power cord (P), insert the plug on the cord into the
accessory socket or cigarette lighter socket (Q), and then turn the ignition
switch to “ACC” position or put the op- eration mode in ACC. Refer to “Ciga-
rette lighter” on page 7-70 and “Acces-
sory socket” on page 7-71.
Turn ON the compressor switch (R) and
inflate the tyre to the specified pressure.

page 10-13.)CAUTIONl The supplied compressor is designed only
for inflation of passenger vehicle tyres.
l The compressor is designed to run on a vehi-
cle’s 12 V power supply. Do not connect itto any other power source.
l The compressor is not waterproof. If you use
it in rain, make sure water does not get on it.
l Any sand or dust sucked into the compressor
could make the compressor break down. Do not place the compressor directly on anysandy or dusty surface when using it.CAUTIONl Do not disassemble or modify the compres-
sor. Also, do not subject the air pressure
gauge to shock. It could malfunction.
15. Check and adjust the tyre pressure with
reference to the air pressure gauge on the
compressor. If you overinflate the tyre, release air by loosening the hose’s end
fitting.
If there is a gap between the tyre and
wheel because the tyre has moved in-
ward from the wheel rim, press the pe- riphery of the tyre towards the wheel to
close the gap before running the com- pressor. (With no gaps, the tyre pressure
will rise.)
CAUTIONl Be careful not to get your fingers trapped be-
tween the tyre and wheel as the tyre inflates.
l The surface of the compressor will get hot
while the compressor is running. Do not
keep the compressor running continuously for more than 10 minutes. After using the
compressor, wait for the compressor to cool before using it again.CAUTIONl If the compressor becomes sluggish or hot
while operating, it is overheating. Immedi-
ately place the switch in the OFF position and let the compressor cool down for at least30 minutes.NOTEl If the tyre pressure does not rise to the speci-
fied level within 10 minutes, the tyre may be
so severely damaged that the tyre sealant
cannot be used to effect an emergency re- pair. Please contact a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point or an-
other specialist in this event.
16. Turn OFF the compressor switch, then
pull the power cord plug out of the sock- et.
NOTEl Simply putting sealant and air into the tyre
using the tyre repair kit does not seal the
puncture hole. Air will leak through the puncture hole until the emergency repair procedure is completed (through step 19 of
these instructions).
17. Affix the speed restriction sticker (R) to
the steering wheel at the position shown
in the illustration. Then immediately

drive with great care to a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point or
another specialist and have tyre repair/ replacement performed.CAUTIONl Do not affix the sticker anywhere except the
specified position on the pad of the steeringwheel. Affixing the sticker in an incorrect
position could prevent the SRS airbag from working normally.
l Be sure to check the tyre pressure for confir-
mation that the emergency repair procedureis complete.
18. When you have inflated the tyre to the
specified pressure, stow the compressor,
bottle, and other items in the vehicle and
promptly start driving the vehicle so that the tyre sealant can spread evenly in the
tyre. Drive with great care. Do not ex-
ceed a speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). Ob-
serve local speed limits.CAUTIONl If you sense any abnormality while driving,
stop the vehicle and contact a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point or an-
other specialist. Otherwise the tyre pressure
may drop before the emergency repair pro- cedure is completed, rendering the vehicle
unsafe.NOTEl Driving faster than 80 km/h (50 mph)
can
make the vehicle vibrate.
19. After driving for 10 minutes or 5 km
(3 miles), check the tyre pressure using
the air pressure gauge on the compres- sor.
If the tyre pressure is not sufficient, in-
flate the tyre to the specified pressure again and drive the vehicle carefully
without exceeding a speed of 80 km/h (50 mph).
CAUTIONl If the tyre pressure is lower than the mini-
mum permitted pressure (1.3 bar {130 kPa}), the tyre cannot successfully be
repaired with the tyre sealant. Do not drive the vehicle any further. Contact a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Serv-
ice Point or another specialist.
20. After driving for 10 minutes or 5 km
(3 miles), check the tyre pressure using
the air pressure gauge on the compres- sor. If the tyre pressure has apparentlynot dropped, the emergency repair pro-
cedure is complete. You must still not exceed a speed of 80 km/h (50 mph) .
Observe local speed limits.
NOTEl If the tyre pressure has dropped below the
specified level when you check it at the end
of the repair procedure, do not drive the ve- hicle any further. Contact a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point or an-
other specialist.
Tyre repair kit*

NOTElIn cold conditions (when the ambient tem-
perature is 0 °C or lower), the time and driv-
ing distance necessary until completion of
the repair can be longer than in warmer con- ditions, meaning that the tyre pressure candrop below the specified level even when
you have inflated the tyre a second time and
subsequently driven the vehicle. If this hap- pens, inflate the tyre to the specified pres-
sure once more, drive for about 10 minutes or 5 km (3 miles), then check the tyre pres-sure again. If the tyre pressure has again
dropped below the specified level, stop driv- ing the vehicle and contact a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point or an-
other specialist.
l Please give the empty sealant bottle to your
MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Serv-
ice Point when you purchase new sealant or
dispose of the sealant bottle according to na- tional regulations for the disposal of chemi-
cal waste.
l A tyre in which puncture sealant has been
used should ideally be replaced with a new one. If you wish to have such a tyre properly repaired for reuse, please contact a
MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Serv-
ice Point or another specialist. Note that a
proper repair is impossible following an emergency repair if the puncture hole cannot
be located.
l Wipe away any sealant that gets on the
wheel. Provided the valve is replaced with anew one, the wheel can be reused.NOTEl The manufacturer is unable to guarantee that
all tyre punctures can be repaired with the tyre repair kit, in particular cuts or perfora-
tions with a diameter of more than 4 mm or
away from the tyre’s tread. The manufactur-
er is not liable for damage sustained through improper use of the tyre repair kit.
l The manufacturer is not liable for damage
sustained through re-use of any tyre in which tyre sealant has been used.How to change a tyre

Before changing a tyre, first stop your vehi-cle in a safe, flat location. 1. Park the vehicle on level and stable
ground, free of loose pebbles, etc.
2. Set the parking brake firmly.
3. On vehicles with M/T, stop the engine
and move the gearshift lever to the “R”
(Reverse) position.
On vehicles with A/T or CVT, move the
selector lever to the “P” (PARK) posi- tion and stop the engine.
4. Turn on the hazard warning flashers and
set up a warning triangle, flashing signal
lamp, etc., at an adequate distance from the vehicle, and have all your passengers
leave the vehicle.
NOTEl The warning triangle and flashing signal
lamp do not come with your vehicle. It is recommended that you keep one in the vehi- cle for use if needed.
5. To prevent the vehicle from rolling
when it is raised on the jack, place
chocks or blocks (A) in front of and be- hind the tyre that is diagonally opposite
from the tyre (B) you are changing.
WARNINGl Be sure to apply chocks or blocks to the
correct tyre when jacking up the vehicle.If the vehicle moves while jacked up, the
jack could slip out of position, leading to
an accident.
