The electronic immobilizer is designed to sig-nificantly reduce the possibility of vehicle theft. The purpose of the system is to immo- bilize the vehicle if an invalid start isattempted. A valid start attempt can only be achieved (subject to certain conditions) using a F.A.S.T.-key “registered” to the immobi-lizer system.All of the keys provided with your new vehi- cle have been programmed to the vehicle’s electronics.

Changing the operation mode

CAUTION When the engine is not running, put the oper- ation mode in OFF. Leaving the operationmode in ON or ACC for a long time when the engine is not running may cause the bat- tery to be discharged, making it impossibleto start the engine.
 When the battery is disconnected, the current operation mode is memorized. After recon- necting the battery, the memorized mode is selected automatically. Before disconnect- ing the battery for repair or replacement,make sure to put the operation mode in OFF. Be careful if you are not sure which opera- tion mode the vehicle is in when the batteryis run down. The operation mode cannot be changed from OFF to ACC or ON if the F.A.S.T.-key is not detected to be in the vehicle. Refer to “Oper- ating range for starting the engine andchanging the operation mode” on page 5-14.NOTE
 If the operation mode cannot be changed to OFF, perform the following procedure. 1. Move the selector lever to the “P” (PARK) position, and then change the operation mode to OFF. 2. One of the other causes could be low bat- tery voltage. If this occurs, the keylessentry system and the F.A.S.T.-key opera- tion will also not operate. ACC power auto-cutout function

Press the LOCK button (1) to lock all the doors and the liftgate. The turn signal lights will also blink once. Press the UNLOCK button (2) to unlock the driver’s door only. Within approximately 2 seconds, press the UNLOCK button one more time to unlock allthe doors and liftgate.
The dome light will turn on for 30 seconds. The turn signal lights will also blink twice. The front side-marker and parking lights will also turn on for approximately 30 seconds.Refer to “Welcome light” on page 5-195. The horn and turn signal lights of the keyless entry system answerback function can be changed as required. This is done with theoperation mode in OFF. The answerback function can be set in the following three ways.
One chime: The horn will not sound. Two chimes: The horn will sound. Four chimes: The horn will sound if the LOCK button is presse

[For vehicles equipped with the keyless entry system]The mirrors automatically retract or extend when the doors are locked or unlocked using the key of the keyless entry system.Refer to “Keyless entry system” on page 5-6.[For vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.-key] The mirrors automatically retract or extend when the doors are locked or unlocked usingthe key or the F.A.S.T.-key. Refer to “Keyless entry system” on page 5-28 or “To operate using the F.A.S.T.-key” onpage 5-14.
CAUTION It is possible to retract and extend the mirrors by hand. After retracting a mirror using the mirror retractor switch, however, you should extend it by using the switch again, not by hand. If you extended the mirror by handafter retracting it using the switch, it would not properly lock in position. As a result, it could move because of the wind or vibrationwhile you are driving, taking away your rear- ward visibility.NOTE
 Be careful not to get your hands trapped while a mirror is moving.  If you move a mirror by hand or it moves after hitting a person or object, you may not be able to return it to its original position using the mirror retractor
switch. If this hap-
pens, push the mirror retractor switch to place the mirror in its retracted position and then push the switch again to return the mir-ror to its original position.  When freezing has occurred and mirrors fail to operate as intended, please refrain from repeated pushing of the retractor switch as this action can result in burn-out of the mir- ror motor circuits.

This will cause the battery to run down. Do not turn the key to the “START” position when the engine is running. It will damagethe starter motor.

If the system detects a problem with a sensor, a warning is displayed in the multi-informa- tion display and a buzzer will sound forapproximately five seconds.
Also, the indicator light (A) on the “SONAR” switch will continue blinking until the sensor resumes functioning. Have the vehicle inspected at an authorizedMitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.

When the selector lever is in the “R” (REVERSE) position with the ignition switch in the “ON” position, or the operation mode is put in ON, the rear-view image will be dis-played on the screen of the Smartphone Link Display Audio. When the selector lever is shifted out of the“R” (REVERSE) position, the rear-view image will go off.
The rear-view camera (A) is in the liftgate, at the left side of the liftgate handle.
NOTE
 The detection mode will not change if you keep the “SONAR” switch pressed for 10 seconds or more.  In the normal mode, even after the “SONAR” switch has been pressed to turn off the parking sensors, the two rear center sensors will continue functioning while theselector lever is in the “R” (REVERSE) posi- tion.

Rear-view camera
WA R N I N G Never rely solely on the rear-view camera to clear the area behind your vehicle. Always check visually behind and all around your vehicle for persons, animals, obstructions or other vehicles. Failure todo so can result in vehicle damage, serious injury or death. The rear-view camera is an aid system for backing up, but it is not a substitute for your visual confirmation. The view on the screen is limited, and objects outside the view, such as under thebumper or around either corner of the bumper end, cannot be seen on the screen.
