[For vehicles equipped with the keyless entry system]The mirrors automatically retract or extend when the doors are locked or unlocked using the key of the keyless entry system.Refer to “Keyless entry system” on page 5-6.[For vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.-key] The mirrors automatically retract or extend when the doors are locked or unlocked usingthe key or the F.A.S.T.-key. Refer to “Keyless entry system” on page 5-28 or “To operate using the F.A.S.T.-key” onpage 5-14.
CAUTION It is possible to retract and extend the mirrors by hand. After retracting a mirror using the mirror retractor switch, however, you should extend it by using the switch again, not by hand. If you extended the mirror by handafter retracting it using the switch, it would not properly lock in position. As a result, it could move because of the wind or vibrationwhile you are driving, taking away your rear- ward visibility.NOTE
 Be careful not to get your hands trapped while a mirror is moving.  If you move a mirror by hand or it moves after hitting a person or object, you may not be able to return it to its original position using the mirror retractor
switch. If this hap-
pens, push the mirror retractor switch to place the mirror in its retracted position and then push the switch again to return the mir-ror to its original position.  When freezing has occurred and mirrors fail to operate as intended, please refrain from repeated pushing of the retractor switch as this action can result in burn-out of the mir- ror motor circuits.
Retracting and extending the mir- rors without using the mirror retractor switch (automatic exten- sion function)

 Functions can be modified as stated below. Please consult an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. On vehicles equipped with the Smartphone Link Display Audio, screen operations can be used to make the adjustment. Refer to theseparate owner’s manual for details.
• Automatically extend when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is put in ON with the driver’s door closed, and automatically retract when the ignition switch is turned tothe “OFF” position or the operation mode is put in OFF with the driver’s door opened. • Automatically extend when the vehicle speed reaches approximately 19 mph (30 km/h). • Deactivate the automatic extension func- tion.

Whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion, sports mode is selected by gentlypushing the selector lever from the “D” (DRIVE) position into sports mode gate (A). To return to “D” (DRIVE) operation, gentlypush the selector lever back into the main gate (B). In sports mode, gear shifts can be made rap- idly simply by moving the selector lever backward and forward or using the sportronicsteering wheel paddle shifter at the steering wheel (for vehicles equipped with the spor- tronic steering wheel paddle shifter). CAUTION If the selected drive mode indicator begins blinking, the drive mode will automatically switch to protect the drive-system compo- nents. Reduce speed and, if the indicator stops blinking, you may resume normal driving. If the drive mode indicator is blinking, a problem has occurred with the S-AWC. A warning will also be displayed in the infor-mation screen in the multi-information dis- play. Have your vehicle inspected immediately by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Make sure that all four tires are the same specified size, type, and brand, and have no significant difference in the amount of wear for all four wheels. Otherwise, the S-AWCsystem may not work properly may be dis- played.

When turning a sharp corner in “GRAVEL” position at low speed, a slight difference in steering may be experienced similar to feel- ing as if the brakes were applied. This iscalled tight corner braking and results from each of the four tires being at a different dis- tance from the corner. The phenomenon istypical of 4-wheel drive vehicles. If this occurs, either straighten out the steering wheel or change to another mode. Set the drive mode-selector to “SNOW” in accordance with the road conditions, and thengradually depress the accelerator pedal for a smooth start.
Set the drive mode-selector to “GRAVEL” and then gradually depress the accelerator pedal for a smooth start. Keep the pressure onthe accelerator pedal as constant as possible, and drive at low speed.
CAUTION Setting the drive mode-selector to “GRAVEL” and “SNOW” position to drive on dry paved road wi
ll increase fuel con-
sumption, with possible noise and vibration generation.
Turning sharp corners On snowy or icy roads
NOTE
 The use of snow tires is recommended.
Maintain a safe distance between vehicles, avoid sudden braking, and use engine brak- ing (downshifting).CAUTION Avoid sudden braking, sudden acceleration and sharp turning. Skidding occurs and con- trol of the vehicle could be lost.
Driving on sandy or muddy roads
CAUTION Do not force the vehicle or drive recklessly on sandy surfaces. In comparison with nor- mal road surfaces, the engine and other drive-system components are put underexcessive strain when driving on such a sur- face. This could lead to accidents. If any of the following conditions occur while the vehicle is being driven, immedi- ately park your vehicle in a safe place andfollow these procedures:NOTE
• If the engine coolant temperature display
flashes on the information screen in the multi-information display or the engine power drops suddenly.Refer to “Engine overheating” on page 8-4.• If the “ ” warning display and “SLOW DOWN” or the “ ” warning display and “SERVICE REQUIRED” appear on the information screen in the multi-information display.Refer to “Warning display” on page 5-63.WA R N I N G When attempting to rock your vehicle out of a stuck position, be sure that the area around the vehicle is clear of people andphysical objects. WA R N I N GDo not stop the engine while the vehicle is moving. Stopping the engine would make the steering wheel extremely hard to turn, possibly resulting in an accident.NOTE
 During repeated full-lock turning of the steering wheel (for example, while you are manoeuvring the vehicle into a parking space), a protection function may be acti-vated to prevent overheating of the power steering system. This function will make the steering wheel gradually harder to turn. Inthis event, limit your tu
rning of the steering
wheel for a while. When the system has cooled down, the steering effort will returnto normal.  If you turn the steering wheel while the vehi- cle is stationary with the headlights on, the headlights may become dim. This behavior is not abnormal. The headlights will return totheir original brightness after a short while.
Electric power steering system warning light/display
CAUTION If the warning display appears while the engine is running, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer ora repair facility of your choice as soon as possible. It may become harder to turn the steering wheel.
Active stability control (ASC)
CAUTION Do not over-rely on the ASC. Even the ASC cannot prevent the natural laws of physics from acting on the vehicle. This system, like any other system, has limits and cannot helpyou to maintain traction and control of the vehicle in all circumstances. Reckless driv- ing can lead to accidents. It is the driver’sresponsibillty to drive carefully, This means taking into account the traffic, road and envi- ronmental conditions. Be sure to use the same specified type and size of tire on all four wheels. Otherwise, theASC may not work properly. Do not install any aftermarket limited slip differential (LSD) on your vehicle. The ASC may stop functioning properly.

The ASC is automatically activated when theignition switch is turned to the “ON” posi- tion. You can deactivate the system by press- ing down the ASC OFF switch for 3 secondsor longer. When the ASC is deactivated, the indica- tor will turn on. To reactivate the ASC, momentarily press the ASC OFF switch; the indicator is turned off.
NOTE
 An operation noise may be emitted from the engine compartment in the following situa- tions. The sound is associated with checking the operations of the ASC. At this time, you may feel a shock from the brake pedal if youdepress it. These do not indicate a malfunc- tion. • When the ignition switch is set to the “ON” position. • When the vehicle is driven for a while after the engine is turned on.
 When the ASC is activated, you may feel a vibration in the vehicle body or hear a whin- ing sound from the engine compartment.This indicates that the system is operating normally. It does not indicate a malfunction.  When the anti-lock braking system warning light is illuminated, the ASC is not active.
Traction control function
CAUTION When driving a vehicle on a snowy or icy road, be sure to install snow tires and drive the vehicle at moderate speeds.
Skid control function
NOTE
 The skid control function operates at speeds of approximately 9 mph (15 km/h) or higher.
ASC OFF switch
CAUTION For safety reasons, the ASC OFF switch should be operated when your vehicle isstopped.  Be sure to keep the ASC on while driving in normal circumstances.

If the set speed driving is deactivated by the condition described in “To deactivate” onpage 5-87, you can resume the previously set speed by push up the “RES +” switch (C) while driving at a speed of approximately 20mph (30 km/h) or higher. Under either of the following conditions, however, using the switch does not allow you to resume the previously set speed. Adaptive Cruise Control System (ACC) maintains a set speed with no need for you to use the accelerator pedal. Using a sensor (A), the system also measures the relative speedand distance between your vehicle and a vehi- cle in front, and maintains a set following dis- tance between your vehicle and the vehicle infront by automatically decelerating your vehi-cle if it becomes too close to the vehicle in front. The cruising set speed can be set from 20 to110 mph (30 to 180 km/h). The distance can be selected from four levels. If the vehicle in front decelerates, the ACCwill automatically apply limited braking to maintain the distance, and if the front vehicle then accelerates, the ACC will automaticallyaccelerate your vehicle up to the set speed. If your vehicle is approaching too close to the front vehicle, a buzzer will sound and a warn-ing is shown in the multi-information display. When the ACC detects no vehicle ahead, the set speed will be maintained.Conventional cruise control mode without the distance control can also be selected. Stop lights are illuminated during automaticbraking.
CAUTION When the set speed driving is deactivated automatically in any situation other than those listed above, there may be a system malfunction. Press the CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFFswitch to turn off the cruise control and have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facilityof your choice.
