If the combination headlights and dimmer switch is turned to the “ ” or “ ” posi- tion again after the engine is turned off, the about 3 minutes auto-cutout functiondescribed above will not work. The lights (the parking lights, tail lights and license plate lights) will stay on and will not turn off auto-matically.

 The sensitivity of the automatic on/off con- trol can be adjusted.For further information, please contact your authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.  Do not cover the sensor (A) for the automatic on/off control by affixing a sticker or label tothe windshield.  If the lights do not turn on or off with the switch in the “AUTO” position, manually operate the switch and we recommend you to have your vehicle checked.

If the driver’s door is opened with the key in the “LOCK” or “ACC” position or removed
from the ignition switch while the lights are on, the buzzer will sound to remind you to turn off the lights. If the driver’s door is opened with the ignition switch in the “LOCK” or “ACC” position, or if the ignition switch is moved to the “LOCK” position while the lights are on, thebuzzer will sound to remind you to turn offthe lights. In either case, the lights and buzzer will turn off automatically. Or you can turn the combination headlightsand dimmer switch to the “OFF” position to stop the buzzer.

To change the headlights from high beam to low beam and vice versa, pull the turn signallever to fully toward you (1). Switch the headlights to low beam as a courtesy when- ever there are oncoming vehicles, or whenthere is traffic moving ahead of you. An illu- minated blue light in the instrument cluster

The front fog lights illuminate only when the headlights are on low beam. Turning the knob in the direction of the “ON”position turns on the front fog lights as well as the indicator in the instrument cluster. To turn them off, turn the knob in the direction ofthe “OFF” position. The knob will return to the neutral position when it is released.
NOTE
 A light in the instrument panel flashes to show when the front and rear turn signal lights are working properly. If this light flashes faster than usual, checkfor a burned out light bulb or malfunctioning connection. If the panel light does not come on when thelever is moved, check for a blown fuse or a burned out bulb in the panel. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorizedMitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.

For a safer and more enjoyable trip, always observe the following:  Before starting the vehicle, make certain that you and all passengers are seated and wearing their seat belts properly (with children in the rear seat, in appropriaterestraints), and that all the doors are locked.
 Move the driver’s seat as far backward as possible, while still keeping good visibil- ity, and good control of the steering wheel, brakes, accelerator, and controls.Check the instrument panel indicators and multi-information display for any possible problem.  Move the front passenger seat as far back as possible.  Make sure that infants and small children are properly restrained in accordance withall laws and regulations.
Check these by selecting the defroster mode, and set the blower switch on high. You should be able to feel the air blowing against the windshield. (Refer to “Defrosting or defogging the wind- shield and door windows” on page 7-6, 7-12, 7-17, 7-22, 7-27.) Check all the tires for heavy tread wear or uneven wear patterns. Look for stones, nails,glass, or other objects stuck in the tread. Look for any tread cuts or sidewall cracks. Check the wheel nuts for tightness, and the tires(including spare tire) for proper pressures.
WA R N I N G If a floor mat is the wrong size or is not properly installed, it can interfere with the operation of the pedals. Interference with the pedals can cause unintended accelera- tion and/or increased stopping distancesresulting in a crash and injury. Always make sure the floor mat does not interfere with the accelerator or brake pedal. Always use the retaining clip on the driver’s floorboard to secure the floormat. Always install the mat with the correct side facing down. Never install a second mat over or under an existing floor mat. Do not use a floor mat designed for another model vehicle ev
en if it is a Mit-
subishi genuine floor mat. Before driving, be sure to check the fol- lowing:• Periodically check that the floor mat isproperly secured with the retaining clips. If you remove the floor mat while clean-ing the inside of your vehicle or for any other reason, always check the condition of the floor mat after it has been rein-stalled.• While the vehicle is stopped with the engine off, check that the floor mat is not interfering with the pedals by depressingthe pedals fully.

Replace your tires before they are heavily worn out. As your vehicle is equipped with a tire pres- sure monitoring system, there is a risk ofdamage to the tire inflation pressure sensors when the tire is replaced on the rim. Tire replacement should, therefore, be performedonly by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Have someone watch while you turn all the exterior lights on and off. Also check the turn signal indicators and high-beam indicators on the instrument panel. Check the ground under the vehicle after parking overnight, for fuel, water, oil, orother leaks. Make sure all the fluid levels are correct. Also, if you can smell fuel, you need to find out why immediately and have itfixed.

can avoid an accident or injury. However, if you give extra attention to the following areas, you can better protect yourself and your passengers:  Drive defensively. Be aware of traffic, road and weather conditions.  Check the battery, including terminals and cables. During extremely cold weather, the battery will not be as strong. Also, thebattery power level may drop because more power is used for cold starting and driving.
Before driving the vehicle, check to see if the engine runs at the proper speed and if the headlights are as bright as normally. Charge or replace the battery if necessary.During extreme cold weather, it is possi- ble that a very low battery could freeze.  Warm the engine sufficiently. After start- ing the engine, allow a short warm-up time to distribute oil
to all cylinders and
turbocharger. Then drive your vehicle slowly.  Stay at low speeds at first so that the transaxle, transfer case and rear axle oil have time to spread to all the lubrication points. Manual transaxle can be harder to shift in cold weather conditions. This is normal and shifting will get easier as the transaxlewarms up.  Check the engine antifreeze.

To reduce the possibility of catalytic con- verter damage:  Use UNLEADED GASOLINE ONLY of the type of recommended in “Fuel selec- tion”.  Do not drive with an extremely low fuel level. Running out of gas could damage the catalytic converter.  Do not try to start the engine by pushing or towing the vehicle. If the battery is weak or run down, use jumper cables to properly start the engine.
 Do not idle the engine with any spark plug wires disconnected or removed, such as when performing diagnostic tests.  Do not idle the engine for a long time if it is idling roughly or otherwise obviously malfunctioning.  To prevent the catalytic converter from being damaged from unburned gas, do not race the engine when turning off the igni- tion switch.  Stop driving the vehicle if you think the performance is less than normal, the engine is running oddly or there is any other engine trouble, such as with theignition, etc. If you
are not able to stop
driving immediately, slow down and drive for only a short time. Have an inspectionmade by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice as soon as possible.  In unusual situations involving major engine problems, a burning odor may indicate severe and abnormal catalyticconverter overheating. If this occurs, stop in a safe place, shut the engine off and let the vehicle cool. Once the engine is cool,immediately take your vehicle to a dealer or a repair facility of your choice for ser- vice.

To prevent damage to the electrical system from short-circuiting or overloading, eachindividual circuit is equipped with a fuse. The fuse blocks are located in the passenger com- partment and in the engine compartment. The fuse blocks in the passenger compart- ment are located behind the fuse lid on the driver’s side as shown.
1. Open the fuse lid and pull to remove it. 2. For vehicles with the bottom cover, use the puller to loosen the 2 clips (A) and push down the bottom cover. The puller is in the fuse block in the engine compart-ment. Refer to “Fuse replacement” on page 9-33.
3. To put back the fuse lid, line up the fuse lid hook (B) with the clamp (C) on theinstrument panel and push the lid back in.

WA R N I N G When changing fuses, do not damage the driver’s knee airbag harness or acciden- tally strike the airbag area with hard objects. Improper work methods could result in an accidental driver’s knee air-bag deployment or could make the driver’s knee airbag inoperable. Either of these situations could result in seriousinjury or death.NOTE
 When finished, be sure to return the puller to the fuse block in the engine compartment.
