It is normal for an engi
ne to use oil. You may
need to add oil betwee
n the recommended oil
change intervals. Before starting the engine, check the engine oil level. Refill if necessary. To check the oil level, remove the dipstick, wipe it off, and gently
reinsert it all the way.
Slowly pull the dipsti
ck straight out and
check the oil level by checking the upper sur- face of the dipstick. Th
e oil level must not go
above the line on the dipstick. If the level does not reach the line which shows the minimum amo
unt of oil required,
remove the oil filler cap on the engine valve cover, and fill to within the “Good” range.
Make sure the engine hood is firmly closed before driving. If you drive without the engine hood com-pletely closed, it c
ould open up while driv-
ing.NOTE
If this does not clos
e the engine hood prop-
erly, drop it again from a slightly higher position. Do not push down strongly on the engine hood. Depending on how strongly or whereyou push down, you could create a dent in the vehicle body.CAUTION

NOTE
If it is difficult to verify the oil level, wipe off the dipstick and
reinsert it. Wait a
moment and then recheck the oil level by checking the upper surfa
ce of the dipstick.

Mitsubishi Motors recommends using only engine oils with the ILSAC certification sym- bol on the front of the container. If you cannot find oils
with the ILSAC certi-
fication symbol, use an API classification SN or higher oil with the following label.
This mark appears on the top of the oil con- tainer and tells you two important thingsabout the oil. Use engine oil with the proper thickness for the outdoor temperatures where you will bedriving.
CAUTION Overfilling will cause oil aeration and loss of oil pressure, which coul
d damage the engine.
WA R N I N GUsed engine oil is po
isonous, and can dam-
age your skin. Prolonged and repeatedcontact may cause serious skin disorders, including dermatitis and cancer. Do not let used oil touch your sk
in and wash thor-
oughly after working with it. Keep used oil out of
the reach of children.
NOTE
Engine oil consumption
is greatly influenced
by payload, engine speed, etc.
Good
The engine oil wi
ll deteriorate rapidly if the
vehicle is subj
ected to severe conditions (for
example, repeated operation on rough roads,in mountainous regions, on roads with many uphill and downhill gradients, or over short distances). Consequently
, the oil will require
earlier replacement in accordance with the schedule in the “WARRANTY AND MAIN- TENANCE MANUAL”.

Mitsubishi Motors Genui

Engine Oil is recommended for optimum fueleconomy and cold weather starting. If Mitsubishi Motors Genuine 0W-20 Syn- thetic Engine Oil is not available, 5W-20grade oils displaying th
e ILSAC certification
can be used. However, Mitsubishi Motors Genuine 0W-20Synthetic Engine Oil s
hould be used at the
next oil change to maintain optimum fuel economy and cold weather starting. The oil filter should be replaced at the time or mileage specified in the “WARRANTY ANDMAINTENANCE MANUAL”. Only use high quality
replacement filters on
this vehicle. The manufacturer’s specifica-tions for Genuine Mitsubishi oil filters
require that the filter can withstand a pressure of 256 psi (1.8 MPa). A Genuine Mitsubishioil filter is the best replacement filter. Follow the installation instructions printed on the filter.

The engine coolant reserve tank (A) lets youquickly see when you need to add coolant. When the engine is cold
, the level of the cool-
ant in the reserve tank should be between theFULL and LOW marks. The radiator usually stays full so there is no reason to remove the radiator cap (B) except when you check thecoolant freeze point or replace the antifreeze coolant.
Mitsubishi Motors Genuine Coolant provides excellent protection
against corrosion and
rust formation on all me
tals, including alumi-
num, and prevents clogs in some parts of theengine. If you need to add coolant often, or if the level in the reserve
tank does not drop when
the engine cools, the
cooling system should
be pressure-tested for leaks. Take your vehi- cle to an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealeror a repair facility of
your choice for testing.

Replacement of light bulbs 9-26 Vehicle care and maintenance

N00942900349
Before replacing the bulb, be sure the light is off. Do not touch the glass part of the new bulb with your bare fingers; the oil from yourskin will stay on the glass and dim or destroy the bulb when it gets hot.
N00943000132
The bulb should only be replaced with a newbulb with the same rating and type. The type and rating are listed on the base of the bulb.

Replacement of light bulbs
CAUTION Bulbs are extremely hot immediately after being turned off. When replacing the bulb, wait for it to coolsufficiently before t
ouching it. You could
otherwise be burned. Handle halogen light bul
b with care. The gas
inside halogen light
bulb is highly pressur-
ized, so dropping, knocking, or scratching ahalogen light bulb can
cause it to shatter.
Never hold the halogen
light bulb with a bare
hand, dirty glove, etc. The oil from your hand could cause the bulb to break the next ti
me the headlights are
used. If the glass surface is dirty, clean it with alcohol and let it dr
y completely before
installing the bulb.
NOTE
If you are unsure of how to carry out the work as required, it is recommended that these procedures be ca
rried out by an autho-
rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repairfacility of your choice. Be careful not to scratch the vehicle body when removing a light and lens. When it rains, or wh
en the vehicle has been
washed, the inside of the lens sometimes becomes temporarily foggy. This is the same phenomenon as when window glass mists upon a humid day, and does not indicate a func- tional problem. When the light is switched on, the heat willremove the fog. However, if water gathers inside the light, please
have it checked by an
authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or arepair facility of your choice.
