After several attempts, you may experience that the engine still does not start. 1. Make sure that all electric devices, such as lights, air conditio

window defogger, are turned off.2. While depressing the brake pedal, press the accelerator peda
l halfway and hold it
there, then crank th
e engine. Release the
accelerator pedal, immediately after the engine starts.
3. If the engine still will not start, the engine could be flooded with too much gasoline.While depressing the brake pedal, push the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it there, then press the engineswitch to crank the engine. If the engine does not start after 5 to 6 seconds, push the engine switch
to stop cranking the
engine, and release th
e accelerator pedal.
Put the operation mode in OFF. Wait a few seconds, and then press the engine switch to crank the engine again while depressing the brake pedal, but do notpush the accelerator
pedal. If the engine
fails to start, repeat
these procedures. If
the engine still will
not start, contact your
local Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choi
ce for assistance.
Startability of the engine with an ambient temperature of -22 °F (-30 °C) or lowerWhen the ambient temperature is -22 °F (-30 °C) or lower, it may not be possible to start from a standstill even with the selector leverin the “D” (DRIVE) or “R” (REVERSE) position. This phenomenon occurs because the trans-axle has not warmed up sufficiently; it does not indicate a problem.
If this occurs, place
the selector lever in the “P” (PARK) positionand let the engine idle for at least 10 minutes.
The transaxle will wa
rm up, and you will be
able to start normally.Do not leave the vehicle during warm-up operation. The MIVEC engine automatically switches its intake-valve control between a low-speed mode and a high-speed mode in accordance with driving conditions for maximum engine performance.

The theft-alarm system is designed to provide protection from unauthorized entry into the vehicle. This system
is operated in three
stages: the first is the “armed” stage, the sec-ond is the “alarm” stage, and third is the “dis- armed” stage. If triggered, the system provides both audible a
nd visual alarm sig-
nals.

Park the vehicle and st
op the engine. Arm the
system as described below. 1. Except for vehicles
equipped with the
F.A.S.T.-key, remove the key from theignition switch. For vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.- key, put the operation mode in OFF.2. Make sure that the engine hood is closed. 3. Lock all doors and the liftgate by using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.
At this time, the theft-alarm indicator (A) in the instrument cl
uster flashes for con-
firmation. 4. The system has entered the armed stage after about 20 seconds, when the theft- alarm indicator (A) flashing becomesslower. The theft-alarm indicator (A) continues to flash while the system is in the armedstage.

gate closed when driving so that your lug-gage cannot accidentally
bump the lever and
open the liftgate.

If the engine hood is open, the theft-alarm indicator (A) illuminate

not enter the armed stage.The system enters the armed stage about 20 seconds after the engine hood is closed. The system will be disarmed if, while the theft-alarm indicator (A) is illuminated, all doors and the liftgate are unlocked by usingthe keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.

Use the following procedure to test the sys- tem: 1. Lower the driver’s window. 2. Arm the system as explained in “Armedstage”. 3. Make sure that the theft-alarm indicator comes on and flashes for approximately 20 seconds. 4. Wait a few seconds and then unlock thedriver’s side door by using the inside door lock knob. Open the door. 5. Make sure that the horn sounds intermit-tently and the headlights blink when a door is opened. 6. Disarm the system by unlocking all doorsand the liftgate by using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.

This model is equipped with an electronically controlled fuel injection system. This is a sys-tem that automatically controls fuel injection. There is usually no need to depress the accel- erator pedal when starting the engine.The starter should not be run for more than 15 seconds at a time. To prevent battery drai
n, wait a few seconds
between attempts to restart the engine. 1. Make sure all occupants are properly seated with seat belts fastened.
2. Insert the ignition key. 3. Press and hold the brake pedal downfirmly with your right foot. 4. Make sure the selector
lever is in the “P”
(PARK) position.5. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” posi- tion and make certain that all warning lights are functioning properly beforestarting the engine. 6. Turn the ignition switch to the “START” position without pre

helps achieve smooth
driving and excellent fuel efficiency. Also you can manually shift up and shiftdown the transaxle. Refer to “Sports mode” on page 5-73. The transaxle prevents unnecessary upshifts even when the accelerator pedal is releasedand ensures smooth driving. According to the conditions, the transaxle will automatically shift to a lower gear to achieve stronger engine
braking. This may

If the ambient temperature is low, the selectorlever position display on the multi informa-
tion display may blink when the selector lever is placed in the “D” (DRIVE), “Ds”(DOWNSHIFT & SPORTY DRIVING), “L” (LOW) or “R” (REVERSE) position immedi- ately after the engine has been started. Thisindicates that the transmission requires warm- ing up. While the display is blinking, the vehicle will not move, because the transmis-sion keeps disengaging until the warm up is completed even if the selector lever is placed in the “D”, “Ds”, “L” or “R” position. When the engine coolant temperature is low, the air temperature from the heater will becool/cold until the engine warms up, even ifyou have selected warm
air with the dial.
To prevent the windshield and windows from fogging up, the vent mode
will be changed to
“ ” and the blower sp
eed will be reduced
while the system is operating in the AUTO mode. When you feel that it is hotter or colder than the set temperature, you may adjust it to yourpreference. For further information, we recommend you to consult an authorized Mitsubishi Motorsdealer or a repair fa
cility of your choice.

3. When running the air conditioner, make sure the air intake, which is located infront of the windshield, is free of obstruc- tions such as leaves. Leaves collected in the air-intake chamber may reduce airflow and plug the water drains.
If the air conditioner seem
s less effective than
usual, the cause might
be a refrigerant leak.
Have the system inspected by your authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer
or a repair facility
of your choice.
The air conditioner should be operated for at least five minutes each week, even in cold weather. This includes the quick defrostingmode. Operating the
air condition system
weekly maintains lubrication of the compres- sor internal parts to keep the air conditionerin the best operating condition.
