The theft-alarm system is designed to provide protection from unauthorized entry into the vehicle. This system
is operated in three
stages: the first is the “armed” stage, the sec-ond is the “alarm” stage, and third is the “dis- armed” stage. If triggered, the system provides both audible a
nd visual alarm sig-
nals.

Park the vehicle and st
op the engine. Arm the
system as described below. 1. Except for vehicles
equipped with the
F.A.S.T.-key, remove the key from theignition switch. For vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.- key, put the operation mode in OFF.2. Make sure that the engine hood is closed. 3. Lock all doors and the liftgate by using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.
At this time, the theft-alarm indicator (A) in the instrument cl
uster flashes for con-
firmation. 4. The system has entered the armed stage after about 20 seconds, when the theft- alarm indicator (A) flashing becomesslower. The theft-alarm indicator (A) continues to flash while the system is in the armedstage.
CAUTION Always keep the releas
e lever lid on the lift-
gate closed when driving so that your lug-gage cannot accidentally
bump the lever and
open the liftgate.

CAUTION Do not modify or add parts to the theft-alarm system. Doing so could cause the theft-alarmto malfunction.

NOTE
 If the engine hood is open, the theft-alarm indicator (A) illuminate
s and the system can-
not enter the armed stage.The system enters the armed stage about 20 seconds after the engine hood is closed.  The system will be disarmed if, while the theft-alarm indicator (A) is illuminated, all doors and the liftgate are unlocked by usingthe keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.

The alarm will be activated if any of the fol- lowing occur while the vehicle is parked andthe system is armed.  One of the doors and the liftgate is opened without using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation. The engine hood is opened.

When the alarm is activated: 1. The headlights blink on and off for 3 min- utes. After 3 minutes the headlights automati-cally shut off. 2. The horn will sound intermittently for 3 minutes.

The alarm can be deactivated in the following ways.  By using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation to lock or unlockthe doors and liftgate.  Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” posi- tion or put the operation mode in ON.

The system will be disarmed if the followingoperation is performed.  Except for vehicles

 The system will not be armed if a door, the liftgate or the engine
hood is not completely
closed. If this happens, rearm the system as described above.  The theft-alarm system can be activated when people are riding inside the vehicle orwhen the windows are open. To prevent acci- dental activation of the alarm, do not set the system to the system armed mode while peo-ple are riding in the vehicle.

with a cloth over its
tip into the notch (A) of the cover. Prygently as shown to remove the cover. 4. Depress the brake pedal with the right foot. 5. Insert a screwdriver in the shift-lockrelease hole (B). Shift the selector lever to the “N” (NEUTRAL) position while pressing the screwdriver down.

This position locks the transmission to pre- vent the vehicle from m
oving. The engine can
be started in the “P” (PARK) position. Move the lever to this position only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop. At this position, the
transmission is disen-
gaged. It is the same
as the neutral position on
a manual transaxle and should be used when the vehicle is not moving for an extended length of time during driving, such as in atraffic jam.
This position is used for most city and high- way driving. The transmission will automati- cally and continuously
change its gear ratio
depending on road a
nd driving conditions.
• Stop your vehicle in a
safe place, put the
selector lever in the “P” (PARK) position,and open the engine hood with the enginerunning to allow the engine to cool down.After a while, confirm that the warning display is no longer showing. It is safe to continue driving if the display is no longershowing. If the warning display remains, contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair fa
cility of your choice

CAUTIONNever shift into the “P” (PARK) or “R” (REVERSE) position while the vehicle is in motion. If the lever is shifted into the “P” (PARK) or “R” (REVERSE) position whilethe vehicle is in motion, the transmission may be damaged.
“N” NEUTRAL

WA R N I N G Never move the selector lever to the “N” (NEUTRAL) position while driving sinceyou could accidentally
slip it into the “P”
(PARK) or “R” (REVERSE) position, damaging the transmission. To prevent the vehicle from rolling when stopped on a slope,
the engine should be
started in the “P” (P
ARK) position, not in
“N” (NEUTRAL) position. To prevent rolling, always keep your foot on the brake pedal when the vehicle is in “N” (NEUTRAL) positi
on, or when shift-
ing into or out of
“N” (NEUTRAL) posi-
tion.
“D” DRIVE

CAUTION To prevent transmissi
on damage, never shift
into the “D” (DRIVE) position from the “R” (REVERSE) position while the vehicle is in motion.

9. Start the engine in the vehicle providing the boost. Let the engine idle a few min- utes, then start the engine in the vehiclewith the discharged battery.
10. After the engine is
started, disconnect the
cables in the reverse order from the wayyou connected them.
If you drive your vehicl
e with a low battery
charge after the engine has been started byusing jumper cables, th
e engine may misfire.
This can cause the anti-lock braking system warning light to blink on
and off. This is only
due to the low battery voltage. It is not a problem with the brake system. If this hap- pens, fully charge the battery and ensure thecharging system is operating properly.

Charging the battery by using an external battery charger

from the battery because the battery could explode. Keep your work area well vented when charging or using
the battery in an

5. If you do not see stea
m or spray coming
from under the hood, leave the engine onuntil the high coolant temperature warn- ing goes off. After the high coolant tem- perature warning has gone off, you canstart driving again. If the high coolant temperature warning stays on, turn off the engine. 6. When you do not see any more steam or spray, open the hood. Look for obviousleaks, such as a split radiator hose. Be careful as components will be hot. Any leak source must be repaired.7. If there is no obvious leak source, check the coolant level in the engine coolant reserve tank. If there is
none, or if it is too
low, slowly add coolant. 8. If the engine coolant reserve tank needs coolant, you will probably also need toadd coolant to the radiator. Do not loosen or remove the radiator cap until the engine has cooled down.
9. Start the engine, a
nd slowly add coolant,
up to the bottom of the filler neck. Use plain water if you have to (and replace itwith the right coolant as soon as possible).
10. Replace the radiator cap and tighten it
fully. Check the engine coolant tempera-ture display on the mu
lti information dis-
play. You can start driving again when the high coolant temperature warning doesnot come on.
11. Have the system inspected by your autho-
rized Mitsubishi Motors
dealer or a repair
facility of your choice.

see if there is steam or spray coming from under the hood. Steam or spray comingfrom an overheated en

scald you. Do not open the hood until there is nosteam or spray.
WA R N I N G Removing the radiat
or cap could scald
you with escaping hot water or steam.When checking the radiator level, coverthe cap with a cloth before trying to remove it. Turn it slowly counterclock- wise, without pressing down, to the firstnotch. The pressure in the system will then be let out. When the pressure is COM- PLETELY LET OUT, press down andkeep turning the cap counterclockwise until it comes off.
