for positive engage-
ment and release of the
latch plate. Check the
retractors for automatic locking when in the Automatic Locking Retractor function. The entire seat belt assembly should be replaced if the webbing shows any obvious cuts, tears, increase in thickness in any sec- tion of the webbing from broken fibers, orsevere fading from sunlig
ht. All of these con-
ditions indicate a weakening of the belt, which may adversely affe
ct seat belt perfor-
mance in an accident.

The SRS front airbags are designed to supple- ment the primary protection of the driver andfront passenger seat belt systems by provid- ing those occupants w
ith protection against

ons. The SRS front air-
bags, together with sensors at the front of the vehicle and sensors attached to the frontseats, form an advanced airbag system. The SRS side airbags and the curtain airbags are also designed to supp
lement the seat belts.
The SRS side airbags provide the driver and front passenger with pr
otection against chest
injuries by deploying the bag on the sideimpacted in moderate
to severe side impact
collisions. The SRS curtain airbags provide the driver and the passengers on the front seatand the second row outboard seats with pro- tection against head injuries by deploying the curtain airbag on the side impacted in moder-ate to severe side im
pact collisions and by
deploying both curtain airbags when a roll- over is detected. The curtain airbags are alsodesigned to help reduce the risk of complete and partial ejection from the vehicle through side windows in both side impact and roll-over type
accidents.
The SRS airbags are NOT a substitute for use of the seat belts. For maximum protection in all types of accident

differential oil. If

Since the driving torque can be applied to thefour wheels, the driving performance of the
vehicle when operating in 4-wheel drive is greatly affected by the condition of the tires. Pay close attenti
on to the tires.
 Install only the specified tires on all wheels. Refer to “Tires and wheels” on page 11-7.  Be sure all four tires and wheels are the same size and type. When it is necessary to replace any of the tires or wheels, replace all four.  All tires should be ro
tated before the wear
difference between the front and rear tiresis recognizable.
Good vehicle performance cannot be expected if there is a difference in wear between tires. Refer to “Tire rotation” onpage 9-20.  Check the tire inflation pressure regularly.

If you tow 4-wheel drive vehicles, use TypeC or Type D equipment. Even in “4WD ECO” drive mode, the vehi- cle cannot be towed with the front or the rear wheels on the ground.

If there is a malfunction in the system, the anti-lock braking system warning light will come on and the warning display will appearon the information screen in the multi-infor- mation display. Under normal conditions, the anti-lock brak-ing system warning light only comes on when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is put in ONand goes off a few seconds later.

 A whining sound is emitted from the engine compartment when driving immediately after starting the engine. These are the nor-mal sounds the anti-lock braking system makes when performing a self-check. It does not indicate
a malfunction.
 The anti-lock braking system can be used after the vehicle has
reached a speed over
approximately 6 mph (10 km/h). It stops working when the vehicle slows below 3 mph (5 km/h).

vated to prevent overheating of the power steering system. This fu
nction will make the
steering wheel graduall
y harder to turn. In
this event, limit your turning of the steering wheel for a while. When the system hascooled down, the steering effort will return to normal.  If you turn the steering wheel while the vehi- cle is stationary with
the headlights on, the
headlights may become
dim. This behavior
is not abnormal. The he
adlights will return to
their original brightness after a short while.

CAUTION If the warning display appears while the engine is running, have
the vehicle inspected

possible. It may become harder to turn thesteering wheel.

There are two ways to increase the set speed. The set speed will increase by 1 mph (1 km/h) every time you push up the “RES +” switch while the ACC is activated. If youhold the switch pushed up, the set speed increases in 5 mph (5 km/h) increments.
When the accelerator
pedal is depressed
while driving with the ACC control working, you can accelerate the vehicle beyond thepresently set speed. When the vehicle spee
d reaches your desired
speed, push down and release the “SET -”
switch and release the accelerator pedal; the new speed is then set in the system.
CAUTION To maintain proper performance of the ACC:• Always clean the surface of the radar sen- sor.• Avoid impacting the radar sensor or its sur-rounding area.• Do not put a sticker on the radar sensor orits surrounding area.• Do not paint the radar sensor.• Do not install a grill guard.• Do not modify the radar sensor or its sur- rounding area.• Always use tires of the same size, sametype, and same brand, and which have no significant wear differences.• Do not modify the vehicle’s suspension.
To increase the set speed

By using the “RES +” switch:

 There is some time
lag until the vehicle
begins accelerating to
the new set speed after
the set speed has been changed.  The set speed can be changed even while your vehicle is followi

This switch is used to turn on or off the FCM and also to select the distance which will trig-ger the forward collision warning function.

actions to avoid collision, FCM controland alarm functions
may be canceled.
In certain situations,
though there is little
or no risk of a collision, the FCM may activate. Examples include: • When overtaking a vehicle.• When driving on a curve.• When there is a road
side object (B) that
reflects the radar sensor signal, such as aroad sign.• When approaching a gate, a railroadcrossing, an underpa
ss, a narrow bridge,
manhole lid or
a speed bump.
• When driving unde
r an overpass or

a narrow tunnel.
• When driving in a parking structure.• When approaching a slope where the incline changes
significantly.
• When trying to stop your vehicle very close to a vehicle or
an object in front.
