Vaihde vaihtuu automaattisesti alueella

2-SECOND This position is for extra power when driving up moderately
steep hills, and for engine braking when descending moder­
ately steep grades.
L-LOW This position is for driving up very steep hills and for engine braking at low speeds when descending steep grades .

Overdrive control switch EI04C·Ba
During ordinary driving, the overdrive switch should be left in the pressed-in
position (the indication lamp in the in­
strument panel is off). Automatic shifting will be performed in
the range from 1 st gear through 4th gear if the selector lever is set at "0 ".
When you need quick acceleration or engine braking power on a downhill grade , or when you are going to go up a
long hill, press the overdrive switch once again to cancel the overdrive function. The indication lamp in the instrument panel lights up and automatic shifting will be performed in the range from 1 st
gear through 3rd gear only.

Passing acceleration EI04F-Bb For quick acceleration when passing, depressing the accelera­tor pedal all the way to the floor will cause the transmission to automatically shift from 4th gear to 3rd gear, from 3rd gear to 2nd gear or from 2nd gear to 1 st gear, in accordance with the driving speed, without having to move the selector lever from either the "D" or "2" position.
Waiting EI04G-Bb For short waiting periods such as at traffic lights, the vehicle
can be left in gear and held stationary with the service brake.
For longer waiting periods with the engine running, the selector
lever should be placed in the "N" position.
& CAUTION Never hold the vehicle stationary while in gear on a hill with the accelerator; always apply the parking brake and/or service brake. .
Parking EI04H·B To park the vehicle, first bring it to a complete stop, fully engage the parking brake, and then move the selector lever to the "P" position. If you are going to leave the vehicle unattended, always switch off the engine and remove the ignition key.

The lever can be operated between these positions while the vehicle is either stopped or moving.
I n case the operations is to be made while the vehicle is stopped, operate the
transfer shift lever after setting the selec­tor lever to "N" (Neutral) position. And in case the operation is to be made while the vehicle is moving, operate the
transfer shift lever after setting the selec ­
tor lever to "0" (Orive) position .
NOTE
Shifting of the lever between "2H" "4H" should be made at the speed
below 1 00 krn/h (62 mph).

The operation should
be made after setting the selector lever to "N" (Neutral) position with the transfer shift lever pushed down.
NOTE
As the vehicles with automatic transmission have a neutral

Asettamalla napal·ukot "FREE" asentoon valitsimen ollessa "2H" asennossa, voidaan voimansiirto etupyoriin katkaista, jolloin ajo tulee seka taloudellisemmaksi etta aanet­

NOTE Shifting from 4H to 2H does not immediately unlock the hubs.
To unlock the hubs , follow the procedure described in TO UNLOCK TH E HUBS in the section" Automatic free -wheeling hubs". (See page 145.)
Free-wheeling hubs* EI05A ·A
If the vehicle is equipped with free-wheeling hubs, they are
located on the front wheels. By setting the free wheeling hubs to the "FREE" position when the shift lever is in the "2H" position, the drive power of the front drive line for the front wheels can be discontinued, thus
resulting in more economical operation in addition to reduced
noise. By setting the free-wheeling hubs to the "LOCK" position when the shift lever is in either the "4H" position or the "4L" position, the drive power of the front drive line can be trans­mitted to the front wheels.

Manual free-wheeling hubs
The hubs are set to either the "FREE" position or the" LOCK" position by turn­
ing the handle .
1 -
FREE This position is for rear -wheel drive.
2 - LOCK
This position
is for four-wheel drive.
.&. CAUTION If four-wheel drive is to be used, both the left and right free-wheeling hubs must be set to the "LOCK" posi­tion. Do not attempt to drive the vehicle with the transfer shift lever in either the "4H" or "4L" position if the free-wheeling hubs are in the "FREE" position. If the setting of the free-wheeling hubs is to be changed after extended use of the brakes (such as for descending a long slope), allow them to cool first. The free-wheeling hubs can become extremely hot and
could cause severe burns.
Automatic free-wheeling hubs FI05B·G The hubs are automatically locked or unlocked according to the position of the transfer shift lever during driving.
TO LOCK THE HUBS: Bring the vehicle to a complete stop,
move the transfer shift lever from "2H" to "4H " and then resume driving; the
hubs will lock automatically , and four­
wheel drive will begin.

NAPOJEN VAPAUTTAMINEN Siirtakaa valitsin "4H" -asennosta "2H" asentoon ja kun ajo­neuvo on liikkunut hitaasti suoraan eteenpain 1 -2 metria
vastakkaiseen suuntaan kuin ajosuunta, niin napalukot avautu­vat automaattisesti ja siirrytaan takapyoravetoon.
Automaattiset napalukot saattavat napsahtaa lukkituessaan tai
vapautuessaan, se ei ole kuitenkaan merkki toimintahairiosta .
Ajettaessa hyvakuntoisilla teilla takapyoravedolla , tulee napo­
jen olla "FREE" asennossa.
Mikali
joudutaan taman tasta vaihtamaan nelipyoravedosta
takapyoravetoon , voidaan navat pitaa lukittuina. Nain menetel ­
taessavoidaan vaihto nelipyoravetoon suorittaa pysahtymatta ,
ajon aikana. Automaattiset napalukot pysyvat lukittuna, mikali
siirto takapyoravetoon suoritetaan ajon aikana.

TO UNLOCK THE HUBS Move the transfer case shift lever from "4H" to "2H" and after
the vehicle has moved slowly straight ahead 1 to 2 m (3.3 to 6.6
ft.) in the opposite direction to the direction traveled (reverse if
the vehicle was moving forward, or forward if the vehicle was moving in reverse) , the hubs will automatically unlock, and
rear-wheel drive will be resumed.
The automatic free-wheeling hubs may make a noise when locking or unlocking, however, this does not indicate any malfunction. For rear -wheel drive on roads in good condition, the automatic free-wheeling hubs should be unlocked.
If changing from four-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive is to be done intermittently, it is possible to leave the automatic free­wheeling hubs locked . If this is done, the change to four-wheel drive can be made while driving, without stopping the vehicle.
The automatic free-wheeling hubs will remain locked during rear-wheel drive if the transfer shift lever is moved to "2H" during driving.

& CAUTION (1) Even if automatic free-wheeling hubs are left locked during rear-wheel drive, they will be un­locked if the vehicle is reversed during starting on an uphill grade, a U-turn, etc. If this happens, the transfer shift lever cannot be moved to the "4H" position during driving; the vehicle must first be completely stopped. (2) If, during four-wheel drive operation, the vehicle becomes stuck and a back-and-forth rocking mo­tion is used to free it, the automatic free-wheeling hubs may become unlocked because of the back­ward movement. If the engine is subsequently revved up and the clutch let out suddenly, the automatic free-wheeling hubs may not lock, and a noise of grinding gears will be heard, however, this is not a malfunction. In addition, if in this condition the accelerator pedal is released slightly and then depressed again, the automatic free-wheeling hubs will lock, but when they do, the vehicle may jerk forward sud­denly. Depress the accelerator pedal gradually, and let the clutch out slowly and smoothly. (3) The automatic free-wheeling hubs may emit un­usual noises when driving at "2H" in cold weather; if this happens, drive for a while in four-wheel drive to warm up the transfer and then shift to "2H". (4) When used while turning, it may not come free in some cases. If this happens, drive straight ahead and try again. .

(3) Joen ylityksen jalkeen tulee tarkistaa moottorin, vaihdelaa­tikon, tasauspyoraston oljyt ja kardaaniakselin rasva. Jos oljyt ja rasvat ovat sameita tai maitomaisia, niihin on sekoittunut vetta ja ne on vaihdettava valittomasti. (4) Tarkistakaa ajovalot. Jos ajovalojen lampussa on vetta , kuivattakaa se valtuute ­
tussa Mitsubishi huoltoiikkeessa . (5) Vaihdattakaa pyoranlaakerien rasva valtuutetussa
M itsubishi -huoltoli ik -keessa.

(3) If a stream has been crossed , check the engine, transmis ­
sion, and differential oil and propeller shaft grease . If the oil
or grease is milky or cloudy because of its mixing with water, it must be replaced with new oil. (4) Inspect the headlamps. If the headlamp bulb is flooded with water, have the bulb drained off at an authorized MITSUBISHI dealer. (5) Have an authorized MITSUBISHI dealer replace grease in
the wheel bearing.
