6. Push the ignition switch to the “ACC”position. Then turn the compressor
switch to the ON (−) position and
inflate the tire up to the pressure that
is specified on the tire and loading
information label affixed to the driver’s
side center pillar if possible, or to the
minimum of 26 psi (180 kPa). Turn the
air compressor off briefly in order to
check the tire pressure with the pres-
sure gauge.
If the tire is inflated to higher than the
specified pressure, lower the tire pres-
sure by releasing air with the pressure
release valve. NOTE:
The compressor tire pressure gauge
may show a pressure reading of 87
psi (600 kPa) for about 30 seconds
while inflating the tire. The pressure
gauge is indicating the pressure in-
side the sealant can. When the
sealant has been injected into the
tire the pressure gauge will drop and
indicate actual tire pressure.
WARNING
.
To avoid serious personal injury
while using the emergency tire
puncture repair kit:
— Securely tighten the compres-
sor hose to the tire valve.
Failure to do so can cause
the sealant to spray into the
air and get into your eyes or
on the skin.
. Do not stand directly beside the
damaged tire while it is being
inflated because of the risk of
the rupture. If there are any
cracks or bumps, turn the com-
pressor off immediately.
If the tire pressure does not increase
to 26 psi (180 kPa) within 10 minutes,
the tire may be seriously damaged and
the tire cannot be repaired with
this tire repair kit. It is recommended
you visit a NISSAN dealer for servicing.
7. When the tire pressure is at the specified amount, turn the air com-
pressor off. If the pressure cannot be
inflated to the specified amount, the
air compressor can be turned off at
the minimum of 26 psi (180 kPa).
Remove the power plug from the
power outlet and quickly remove the
hose from the tire valve. Attach the
protective cap and valve cap. Properly
stow the emergency tire puncture
repair kit in the trunk.
CAUTION
To avoid serious personal injury
when stowing the emergency tire
puncture repair kit:
.Keep the sealant bottle screwed
into the compressor. Failure to do
so can cause the sealant to spray
into the air and get into your eyes
or on the skin.
8. Immediately drive the vehicle for 10 minutes or 2 miles (3 km) at a speed of
50 MPH (80 km/h) or less.

9. After driving, make sure that the aircompressor switch is in the OFF posi-
tion, then screw the hose securely
onto the tire valve. Check the tire
pressure with the pressure gauge.
The temporary repair is completed if
the tire pressure does not drop.
Make sure the pressure is adjusted to
the pressure that is specified on the
tire and loading information label
before driving.
10. If the tire pressure drops, repeat the steps from 5 to 9. If the pressure drops
again or under 19 psi (130 kPa), the tire
cannot be repaired with this tire
repair kit. It is recommended you visit
a NISSAN dealer for this servicing.
The sealant bottle and hose can not
be reused to repair another punctured
tire. It is recommended you visit a
NISSAN dealer to purchase replace-
ments.After repairing tire
It is recommended you visit a NISSAN
dealer for tire repair/replacement as soon
as possible.
WARNING
. After using Emergency Tire Sea-
lant to repair a minor tire punc-
ture, do not drive the vehicle at
speeds faster than 50 MPH (80
km/h).
. Immediately after using Emer-
gency Tire Sealant to repair a
minor tire puncture, take your
vehicle to inspect, and repair or
replace the tire. It is recom-
mended you visit a NISSAN dealer
for this service. The Emergency
Tire Sealant cannot permanently
seal a punctured tire. Continuing
operation of the vehicle without a
permanent tire repair can lead to
a crash.
. NISSAN recommends using only
Genuine NISSAN Emergency Tire
Sealant provided with your vehi-
cle. Other tire sealants may da-
mage the valve stem seal which
can cause the tire to lose air
pressure. It is recommended you visit a NISSAN dealer as soon as
possible after using tire repair
sealant.

To start your engine with a booster
battery, the instructions and precautions
below must be followed.
WARNING
.If done incorrectly, jump starting
can lead to a battery explosion,
resulting in severe injury or
death. It could also damage your
vehicle.
. Explosive hydrogen gas is always
present in the vicinity of the
battery. Keep all sparks and
flames away from the battery.
. Do not allow battery fluid to come
into contact with eyes, skin,
clothing or painted surfaces. Bat-
tery fluid is a corrosive sulphuric
acid solution which can cause
severe burns. If the fluid should
come into contact with anything,
immediately flush the contacted
area with water.
. Keep the battery out of the reach
of children.
. The booster battery must be
rated at 12 volts. Use of an im-
properly rated battery can da-
mage your vehicle. .
Whenever working on or near a
battery, always wear suitable eye
protectors (for example, goggles
or industrial safety spectacles)
and remove rings, metal bands,
or any other jewelry. Do not lean
over the battery when jump start-
ing.
. Do not attempt to jump start a
frozen battery. It could explode
and cause serious injury.
. Your vehicle has an automatic
engine cooling fan. It could come
on at any time. Keep hands and
other objects away from it.

WARNING
Always follow the instructions below.
Failure to do so could result in
damage to the charging system and
cause personal injury.
1. If the booster battery is in another vehicle
, position the two vehicles (and) to bring their batteries into
close proximity to each other.
Do not allow the two vehicles to
touch. 2. Apply parking brake. Move the shift
lever to the P (Park) position (Auto-
matic transmission models). Move the
shift lever to the N (Neutral) position
(Manual transmission models). Switch
off all unnecessary electrical systems
(light, heater, air conditioner, etc.).
3. Remove vent caps on the battery (if so equipped). Cover the battery with a
firmly wrung out moist cloth
to
reduce explosion hazard.
4. Connect jumper cables in the se- quence as illustrated (
???).
CAUTION
.Always connect positive (+) to
positive (+) and negative (−) to
body ground (as illustrated) —
not to the battery.
. Make sure the jumper cables do
not touch moving parts in the
engine compartment and that
clamps do not contact any other
metal.
5. Start the engine of the booster vehicle
and let it run for a few minutes.
6. Keep the engine speed of the booster vehicle
at about 2,000 rpm, and
start the engine of the vehicle being
jump started
.
CAUTION
Do not keep the starter motor en-
gaged for more than 10 seconds. If
the engine does not start right away,
push the ignition switch to the OFF
position and wait 10 seconds before
trying again.

7. After starting your engine, carefullydisconnect the negative cable and
then the positive cable (
???).
8. Replace the vent caps (if so equipped). Be sure to dispose of the cloth used to
cover the vent holes as it may be
contaminated with corrosive acid.
9. Put the battery cover on. Do not attempt to start the engine by
pushing.CAUTION
.
Automatic transmission models
cannot be push-started or tow-
started. Attempting to do so may
cause transmission damage.
. Three way catalyst equipped
models should not be started by
pushing since the three way cat-
alyst may be damaged.
. Never try to start the vehicle by
towing it; when the engine starts,
the forward surge could cause
the vehicle to collide with the
tow vehicle.
CAUTION
.Do not continue to drive if your
vehicle overheats. Doing so could
cause engine damage or a vehicle
fire.
. To avoid the danger of being
scalded, never remove the radia-
tor cap while the engine is still
hot. When the radiator cap is
removed, pressurized hot water
will spurt out, possibly causing
serious injury.
. Do not open the hood if steam is
coming out.
If your vehicle is overheating (indicated by
an extremely high temperature gauge
reading), or if you feel a lack of engine
power, detect abnormal noise, etc., take
the following steps:
1. Move the vehicle safely off the road, apply the parking brake and move the
shift lever to the P (Park) position
(Automatic transmission models).
Move the shift lever to the N (Neutral)
position (Manual transmission mod-
els).
Do not stop the engine.

2. Turn off the air conditioner. Open allthe windows, move the heater or air
conditioner temperature control to
maximum hot and fan control to high
speed.
3. If engine overheating is caused by climbing a long hill on a hot day, run
the engine at a fast idle (approxi-
mately 1,500 rpm) until the tempera-
ture gauge indication returns to
normal.
4. Get out of the vehicle. Look and listen for steam or coolant escaping from
the radiator before opening the hood.
(If steam or coolant is escaping, turn
off the engine.) Do not open the hood
further until no steam or coolant can
be seen.
5. Open the engine hood.
WARNING
If steam or water is coming from the
engine, stand clear to prevent get-
ting burned.
6. Visually check if the cooling fan is running. The radiator hoses and ra-
diator should not leak water. If coolant
is leaking or the cooling fan does not
run, stop the engine.
WARNING
Be careful not to allow your hands,
hair, jewelry or clothing to come into
contact with, or get caught in, engine
belts or the engine cooling fan. The
engine cooling fan can start at any
time.
7. After the engine cools down, check the coolant level in the reservoir with
the engine running. Add coolant to
the reservoir if necessary. Have your
vehicle repaired. It is recommended
you visit a NISSAN dealer for this
service.

When towing your vehicle, all State (Pro-
vincial in Canada) and local regulations
for towing must be followed. Incorrect
towing equipment could damage your
vehicle. Towing instructions are available
from a NISSAN dealer. Local service op-
erators are familiar with the applicable
laws and procedures for towing. To
assure proper towing and to prevent
accidental damage to your vehicle,
NISSAN recommends that you have a
service operator tow your vehicle. It is
advisable to have the service operator
carefully read the following precautions.
WARNING
.Never ride in a vehicle that is
being towed.
. Never get under your vehicle after
it has been lifted by a tow truck.
CAUTION
.When towing, make sure that the
transmission, axles, steering sys-
tem and drivetrain are in working
condition. If any unit is damaged,
dollies must be used. .
Always attach safety chains be-
fore towing.
For information about towing your vehi-
cle behind a recreational vehicle (RV), see
“Flat towing” (P.10-22) of this manual.

TOWING AUTOMATIC TRANSMIS-
SION RECOMMENDED BY NISSAN
(except for NISMO models)
NISSAN recommends that your vehicle be
towed with the driving (rear) wheels off
the ground or place the vehicle on a flat
bed truck as illustrated.
CAUTION
.Never tow automatic transmis-
sion models with the rear wheels
on the ground or four wheels on
the ground (forward or back-
ward), as this may cause serious and expensive damage to the
drivetrain. If it is necessary to
tow the vehicle with the front
wheels raised, always use towing
dollies under the rear wheels.
. When towing rear wheel drive
models with the front wheels on
the ground or on towing dollies:
Push the ignition switch to the
ACC or ON position, and secure
the steering wheel in a straight-
ahead position with a rope or
similar device.

NISSAN recommends that your vehicle be
towed with the driving (rear) wheels off

sion models with the rear wheels on

Push the ignition switch to the ON
position and turn off all acces-
sories.
. Always release the parking brake.

. Observe the following restricted
towing speeds and distances for
manual transmission models
only:
— Rear wheels on the ground:
Speed: Below 50 MPH (80
km/h)
Distance: Less than 50 miles
(80 km) — Four wheels on the ground:
Speed: Below 70 MPH (112
km/h)
Distance: Less than 500 miles
(800 km)
. If the speed or distance must
necessarily be greater, remove
the propeller shaft before towing
to prevent damage to the drive-
train.

TOWING RECOMMENDED BY
NISSAN (NISMO models)
CAUTION
Do not tow NISMO models with any
wheel on the ground, or with the
front or rear wheels raised, because
this may cause damage to the front
bumper with an aerodynamic split-
ter, rear bumper with an aerody-
namic diffuser or exhaust pipes.
NISSAN recommends that you place the
vehicle on a flatbed truck as illustrated.
VEHICLE RECOVERY (freeing a stuck
vehicle)
WARNING
To avoid vehicle damage, serious
personal injury or death when reco-
vering a stuck vehicle:
. Contact a professional towing
service to recover the vehicle if
you have any questions regard-
ing the recovery procedure.
. Tow chains or cables must be
attached only to main structural
members of the vehicle. .
Do not use the vehicle tie-downs
to tow or free a stuck vehicle.
. Only use devices specifically de-
signed for vehicle recovery and
follow the manufacturer’s in-
structions.
. Always pull the recovery device
straight out from the front of the
vehicle. Never pull at an angle.
. Route recovery devices so they
do not touch any part of the
vehicle except the attachment
point.
If your vehicle is stuck in sand, snow, mud,
etc., use a tow strap or other device
designed specifically for vehicle recovery.
Always follow the manufacturer’s instruc-
tions for the recovery device.
Rocking a stuck vehicle
If your vehicle is stuck in sand, snow, mud,
etc., use the following procedure:
1. Turn off the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system.
2. Make sure the area in front and behind the vehicle is clear of obstruc-
tions.
3. Turn the steering wheel right and left to clear an area around the front tires.
