NISSAN Voice Recognition allows hands-free
operation of the navigation system and other
systems equipped on this vehicle, in one of two
modes, Standard Mode or Alternate Command
Mode. In Standard Mode, you can operate
Phone and Information.
The commands that are available are always
shown on the display and announced by the
system. You can complete your desired opera-
tion by simply following the prompts given by the
system. In Standard Mode, hands–free opera-
tion of Audio, Climate Control and Display is not
available through Voice Recognition.
For U.S. customers, Standard Mode is selected
by default. For Canadian customers, Alternate
Command Mode is the default mode.

conditioner and other systems, refer to the
Owner’s Manual of your vehicle. The follow-
ing sections refer only to the navigation,
phone, and information systems.

“Franc¸ ais” (French) the available commands
and functions differ from those available

Using the system
Initialization:
When the ignition switch is pushed to the ON
position, NISSAN Voice Recognition is initia-
lized, which may take up to one minute. When
completed, the system is ready to accept voice
commands. If is pushed before the
initialization completes, the display will show the
message: “Phonetic data downloading. Please
wait.”
Before starting
To get the best recognition performance from
NISSAN Voice Recognition, observe the follow-
ing:
. The interior of the vehicle should be as quiet
as possible. Close the windows to eliminate
the surrounding noises (traffic noise and
vibration sounds, etc.) , which may prevent
the system from correctly recognizing the
voice commands.
. Wait until the tone sounds before speaking a
command.
. Speak in a natural conversational voice
without pausing between words.
. If the air conditioner is set to “Auto”, the fan
speed is automatically lowered so that your
commands can be recognized more easily.

XM NavTraffic®information is a subscription
service offered by XM®Satellite Radio.
This service provides real-time information
regarding traffic flow, accidents, road construc-
tion and other incidents, where available.
XM NavTraffic
®combines information from
commercial and public traffic data providers
including government departments of transpor-
tation, police, emergency services, road sen-
sors, cameras and aircraft reports. The traffic
information is broadcast to the vehicle by the
XM
®satellites. Available traffic information on
the route the driver selected is shown on the
navigation screen so traffic conditions between
you and the destination are known. Three types
of real-time traffic information for major road-
ways are shown on the navigation system:
* Unscheduled traffic data for example, acci-
dents and disabled vehicles.
* Scheduled traffic data, for example road
construction and road closures.
* Traffic flow information (rate of speed data) .
WARNING
XM NavTraffic®information is not a
substitute for attentive driving. Traffic
conditions change constantly and emergency situations can arise with-
out warning. Relying only on XM
NavTraffic
®information may lead to
a collision and could result in serious
personal injury.
NOTE:
Flow information is provided only for
roads equipped with traffic sensors and
is not available in all markets covered by
the service. Flow data may not be available
on portions of a road that is under
construction.

®information is available in limited

NISSAN Voice Recognition allows hands-free
operation of the navigation system and other
systems equipped on this vehicle, in one of two
modes, Standard Mode or Alternate Command
Mode.
In Standard Mode, you can operate Phone and
Information. The commands that are available

by the system. You can complete your desired
operation by simply following the prompts given
by the system. In this mode, hands-free opera-

For advanced operation, you can change to
Alternate Command Mode that enables the
operation of the display, audio and climate
control through Voice Recognition. When this
mode is active, an expanded list of commands
can be spoken after pushing, and the
voice command menu prompts are turned off.
Please note that in this mode the recognition
success rate may be affected because the
number of available commands and ways of
speaking each command are increased.
For U.S. customers, Standard Mode is selected
by default. For Canadian customers, Alternate
Command Mode is the default mode. One mode
can be switched to another.

Command Learning Function available in

Otherwise, it is recommended that Alternate
Command Mode be turned OFF and Stan-
dard Mode be used for the best recognition
performance.

conditioner and other systems, refer to the

tions refer only to the navigation, phone and
information systems.
. When using the system in French, com-
mands and features differ from those avail-
able when using the system in English.
If you select the “Francais” key, the French
language will be displayed, so please use
the French Owner’s Manual. To obtain a
French Owner’s Manual, please refer to the
vehicle Owner’s Manual. The following section is applicable when Stan-
dard Mode is activated. (This mode is selected
by default for U.S. customers.)

VOICE RECOGNITION SYSTEM
If you are operating the voice recognition system
for the first time or if you would like help using
the system, you can display the user guide to
assist you.
How to use voice commands
You can confirm how to use voice commands by
accessing a simplified User Guide, which
contains basic instructions and tutorials for
several voice commands.

Operating tips
.
If the command is not recognized, the
system announces, “Please say again”.
Repeat the command in a clear voice.
. Push once to return to the
previous screen.
. If you want to cancel the command, push
and hold . The message, “Voice
cancelled” will be announced.
. When you do not say a command, the
system pauses the operation. Push
to restart the operation.
. If you want to adjust the volume of the
system feedback, push the volume control
buttons [+] or [−] on the steering switch or
use the audio system volume knob while the
system is making an announcement.
How to speak numbers
NISSAN Voice Recognition requires a certain
way to speak numbers when giving voice
commands. Refer to the following examples.
General rule:
Only single digits 0 (zero) to 9 can be used. (For
example, if you would like to say 500, “five zero
zero” can be used, but “five hundred” cannot.

You are speaking before the voice recognition mode is ready. Push
on the steering switch, and speak a command after the
tone sounds.
8 seconds or more have passed after you pushed
on the steering switch. Make sure to speak a command within 8 seconds after you hear the beep
tone.
Only a limited range of voice commands is usable for each
screen. Use a correct voice command appropriate for the current screen.
The sound of the fan of the air conditioner is too loud. If the air conditioner is set to “Auto”, the fan speed is automatically lowered and voice commands can be recognized more easily.
Lower the fan speed as necessary or set the air conditioner to “Auto”.
