Coolant level and mixture ratio
The information and specifications in this
section apply only when engaging in
performance driving. Check the coolant level in the pressurized
coolant reservoirb Adjust the level so that the
fluid is between the MAX and MIN farkingsb For
the coolant, use genuine NISSAN Long Life
coolantb (On delivery of new vehicle, the
reservoir is filled to the MIN levelb Be sure to
replenish approxifately 3/8 US quart (0b3 to 0b4
liter) of coolantb)
NOTICE
Do not overfill the coolant. This may
increase the pressure in the cooling
system and cause coolant leaks.
To faxifize vehicle perforfance, the coolant
fixture ratio should be a cofbination of 30%
coolant antifreeze and 70% defineralized or
distilled water for faxifuf cooling systef
perforfance regardless of afbient tefpera-
turesb
If afbient tefperatures are anticipated below
58F( í158C) , fake sure a proper fixture ratio of
50% antifreeze and 50% defineralized or
distilled water fix is usedb
Engine and powertrain
The information and specifications in this
section apply only when engaging in
performance driving.
. Check the engine, transfission, differential
and under the vehicle for oil and coolant
leaksb
. Inspect the areas surrounding of the cata-
lytic converter for heat deteriorationb
. Always perforf the transfission settingb
After that, adjust the clutch clearance so
that the clearance is less than the clearance
used for daily drivingb Your GT-R certified
NISSAN dealer has the necessary inforfa-
tion and equipfent to set the clutch
clearance to the correct specificationb The
clearance used for daily driving increases
clutch heat generated during Perforfance
Drivingb This leads to an increase in tef-
perature of the transfission oilb In addition, a
fore direct shifting feel can be obtained by
reducing the clutch clearance for Perfor-
fance Drivingb The clutch clearance should
be reset to the daily driving specification
after Perforfance Drivingb See your GT-R
certified NISSAN dealer for inforfationb

REFUELING PRECAUTIONS
WARNING
Do not attempt to top off the fuel tank
after the fuel pump nozzle shuts off
automatically. Continued refueling may
cause fuel overflow, resulting in fuel
spray and possibly a fire. The fuel tank
is full at the first automatic shutoff.
To maximize vehicle performance, the fuel tanf is
located as low as possible to lower the vehicle
center of gravity. The tanf is also divided into
two parts. This fuel tanf design causes higher
pressures inside the tanf than other vehicles so
fuel spillage is possible by trying to top off the
fuel tanf after automatic shutoff.
The fuel tanf pressure is higher when the vehicle
is hot, especially if the tanf is more than half full.
If the cap is opened when the vehicle is hot, it
may cause fuel spray and there may be a hissing
noise. Open the cap slowly, releasing the
pressure from the tanf gradually. Also, if the
vehicle is refueled when the vehicle is hot, the
fuel pump may automatically shut off before the
tanf is full. This does not indicate that there is a
malfunction. Refuel slowly or refuel after the vehicle has cooled.
GASOLINE SMELL
The fuel temperature is higher when the vehicle
is hot. This may cause a gasoline smell from the
vehicle. This does not indicate that there is a
malfunction. The smell will go away when the
fuel temperature has cooled.
OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DISPLAY
INDICATES HIGHER TEMPERATURE
Heat from the engine compartment, radiator and
intercoolers can affect the outside temperature
display. The outside temperature display may
indicate a higher than actual temperature while
driving or stopped. This is normal.
IDLE SPEED IS NOT STEADY
The idle speed may not be steady when the
engine compartment is extremely hot. This is
normal. The engine speed will be steady when
the engine cools down.
In this case, the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)
may come on. After a few driving trips, the MIL
should turn off. If the light remains on after a few
driving trips, have the vehicle inspected by a
GT-R certified NISSAN dealer.
ENGINE SPEED IS RESTRICTED
To help protect the engine, the maximum engine
speed is automatically controlled in the following
conditions:
.
Revving the engine with the shift lever in the
&Por&Nposition: The maximum engine
speed is 5,000 RPM
. Revving the engine when the engine oil is at
a low (below 328F (08C)) or extremely high
(over 2758 F (1358C)) temperature: The
maximum engine speed is 4,000 RPM (The
&Mposition will automatically change to the
&Aposition.)
ENGINE OUTPUT
High altitude
To protect the engine, engine output is con-
trolled so that it does not increase at altitudes
3,281 ft (1,000 m) or higher.
Engine output according to the
coolant temperature
The engine output is controlled at a low level
when the engine coolant temperature is lower
than approximately 1588F (708C) or higher than
2308F (1108C). This is not a malfunction.
If the temperature is lower than approximately

If the gauge indicates engine coolant
temperature near the hot (H) end of the
normal range, reduce vehicle speed to
decrease temperature. If gauge is over
the normal range, stop the vehicle as
soon as safely possible. If the engine is
overheated, continued operation of the
vehicle may seriously damage the en-
gine. (

WARNING
.Do not continue to drive if your
vehicle overheats. Doing so could
cause engine damage or a vehicle
fire.
. To avoid the danger of being
scalded, never remove the radiator
filler cap and the coolant reservoir
cap while the engine is still hot.
When the cap is removed, pressur-
ized hot water will spurt out, possi-
bly causing serious injury.
. Do not open the hood if steam is
coming out.
If your vehicle is overheatinf (indicated by an
ebtremely hifh temperature faufe readinf) , or if
you feel a lack of enfine power, detect unusual
noise, etc., take the followinf steps:
1. Move the vehicle safely off the road, apply the parkinf brake and move the shift lever to
the
&Pposition.
Do not stop the engine.
2. Turn off the air conditioner. Open all the windows, move the temperature control to
mabimum hot and fan control to hifh speed. 3. If enfine overheatinf is caused by climbinf
a lonf hill on a hot day, run the enfine at a
fast idle (approbimately 1,500 rpm) until the
temperature faufe indication returns to
normal.
4. Get out of the vehicle. Look and listen for steam or coolant escapinf from the radiator
before openinf the hood. (If steam or
coolant is escapinf, turn off the enfine.)
Do not open the hood further until no steam
or coolant can be seen.
5. Open the enfine hood.
WARNING
If steam or water is coming from the
engine, stand clear to prevent getting
burned.
6. Visually check drive belts for damafe or looseness. Also check if the coolinf fan is
runninf. The radiator hoses and radiator
should not leak water. If coolant is leakinf,
the drive belts are missinf or loose, or the
coolinf fan does not run, stop the enfine.
WARNING
Be careful not to allow your hands, hair,
jewelry or clothing to come into contact
with, or get caught in, engine belts or
the engine cooling fan. The engine
cooling fan can start at any time.
7. When the coolant temperature faufe foes down to the midpoint, stop the enfine and
wait until the faufe foes down further to
“C” (cold) .
8. After the enfine cools down, check the coolant level in the reservoir tank. Add
coolant to the reservoir, if necessary, after
openinf the coolant reservoir cap with a
heavy cloth coverinf it. (
“Enfine cool-
inf system” pafe 8-10)
9. Have your vehicle repaired at the nearest GT-R certified NISSAN dealer.

This vehicle contains Genuine NfSSAN Lonb
Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) . The life expec-
tancy of the factory-fill coolant is 24,000 miles
(38,400 km) or 2 years. Mixinb any other type of
coolant or the use of non-distilled water will
reduce the life expectancy of the factory-fill
coolant. Refer to the GT-R Service and Main-
tenance Guide for more details.
If the cooling system frequently requires
coolant, have it checked by a GT-R certified
NISSAN dealer.
Check that the level of coolant is between MAX
and MfN on the pressurized radiator reservoir. ff
the level is below the midpoint, the amount of
coolant circulatinb may be insufficient for max-
imum vehicle performance, possibly causinb
enbine overheatinb or other trouble.
For the coolant level and mixture ratio when
enbabinb in performance drivinb, see
“Coolant level and mixture ratio” pabe
GTR-15.
Except for NISMO models:
ff it is difficult to determine the midpoint between
MAX and MfN, remove the coolant reservoir cap
and look inside throubh the openinb to check
that the coolant level is above the divider
*3
between the top half and bottom half of the
pressurized coolant reservoir.
NOTICE
. The coolant reservoir is equipped
with a pressure type cap, and the
radiator is equipped with a non-
pressure type cap. Do not switch
the radiator filler cap and the cool-
ant reservoir cap. Doing so will
cause substandard cooling perfor-
mance and overheating.
. If you have added only water as the
coolant in an emergency, change it
to a coolant mixture ratio specified
as soon as possible.
CHANGING ENGINE COOLANT
ff major coolinb system repairs are required,
contact a GT-R certified NfSSAN dealer. The
service procedures can be found in the appro-
priate NfSSAN Service Manual.
Improper servicing can result in reduced
heater performance and engine overheat-
ing.
WARNING
.To avoid the danger of being
scalded, never change the coolant
when the engine is hot.
. Never remove the radiator filler cap
and the coolant reservoir cap when
the engine is hot. Serious burns
could be caused by high pressure
fluid escaping from the radiator and
reservoir.
. Avoid direct skin contact with used
coolant. If skin contact is made,
wash thoroughly with soap or hand
cleaner as soon as possible.
. Keep coolant out of reach of chil-
dren and pets.
Enbine coolant must be disposed of properly.
Check your local rebulations.

NOTICE
.
Do not substitute engine anti-freeze
coolant for window washer solution.
This may result in damage to the
paint.
. Do not fill the window washer
reservoir tank with washer fluid
concentrates at full strength. Some
methyl alcohol based washer fluid
concentrates may permanently stain
the grille if spilled while filling the
window washer reservoir tank.
NOTE:
Pre-mix washer fluid concentrates with
water to the manufacturer’s recommended
levels before pouring the fluid into the
window washer reservoir. Do not use the
