T o install thefuel-filler cap:
1. Insert thefuel-filler capstraight intothefuel-
filler tube.
2. Turn thefuel-filler capclockwise

single clickisheard.
WARNING
. Gasoline isextremely flammable
and highly explosive undercertain
conditions. You could beburned or
seriously injuredifitis misused or
mishandled. Alwaysstopengine
and donot smoke orallow open
flames orsparks nearthevehicle
when refueling.
. Do not attempt totop offthe fuel
tank after thefuel pump nozzle
shuts offautomatically. Continued
refueling maycause fueloverflow,
resulting infuel spray andpossibly
a fire.
. Use only anoriginal equipment type
fuel-filler capasareplacement. It
has abuilt-in safetyvalveneeded
for proper operation ofthe fuel
system andemission controlsys-
tem. Anincorrect capcanresult ina
serious malfunction andpossible
injury. Itcould alsocause themal-
function indicator lighttocome on.
. Never pourfuelinto thethrottle
body toattempt tostart yourvehi-
cle.

. Do not fillaportable fuelcontainer
in the vehicle ortrailer. Staticelec-
tricity cancause anexplosion of
flammable liquid,vapororgas in
any vehicle ortrailer. To reduce the
risk ofserious injuryordeath when
filling portable fuelcontainers:
Ð Always placethecontainer on
the ground whenfilling.
Ð Do not use electronic devices
when filling.
Ð Keep thepump nozzle incontact
with thecontainer whileyouare
filling it.
Ð Use only approved portablefuel
containers forflammable liquid.
CAUTION
. Iffuel isspilled onthe vehicle body,
flush itaway withwater toavoid
paint damage.
. Insert thecap straight intothefuel-
filler tube, thentighten untilthe
fuel-filler capclicks. Failure totight-
en the fuel-filler capproperly may cause
the
malfunction indicator
light (MIL) toilluminate. Ifthe
light illuminates becausethefuel-
filler capisloose ormissing, tighten
or install thecap and continue to
drive thevehicle. The
light
should turnoffafter afew driving
trips. Ifthe
light does notturn
off after afew driving trips,havethe
vehicle inspected byaNISSAN deal-
er.

. The LOOSE FUELCAPwarning
message willbedisplayed ifthe
fuel-filler capisnot properly tigh-
tened. Itmay take afew driving trips
for the message tobe displayed.

cause the
Malfunction Indicator

The LOOSE FUELCAPwarning message is
displayed onthe vehicle information display
when thefuel-filler capisnot tightened correctly
after thevehicle hasbeen refueled. Itmay take a
few driving tripsforthe message tobe
displayed. To turn offthe warning message, do
the following procedure:
1. Remove andinstall thefuel-filler capas
previously described assoon aspossible.
2. Tighten thefuel-filler capuntil itclicks.
3. Push thetrip computer modeswitch

octane ratingofatleast 87AKI number
(Research octanenumber 91),but you may
notice adecrease inperformance.
For NISMO RSmodels:
Use unleaded premiumgasolinewithanoctane
rating ofatleast 91AKI (Anti-Knock Index)
number (Research octanenumber 96).
If unleaded premiumgasolineisnot available,
unleaded regulargasoline withanoctane rating
of atleast 87AKI number (Research octane
number 91)may betemporarily used,butonly

unleaded regulargasoline, andfillup with

possible.

Gasoline specification s

the World-Wide FuelCharter (WWFC) speci-
fications whereitis available. Manyofthe
automobile manufacturers developedthisspe-
cification toimprove emission controlsystem
and vehicle performance. Askyour service
station manager ifthe gasoline meetsthe
WWFC specifications.
Reformulated gasoline

Some fuelsuppliers arenow producing refor-
mulated gasolines. Thesegasolines arespecially
designed toreduce vehicleemissions. NISSAN
supports effortstowards cleanerairand sug-
gests thatyouuse reformulated gasolinewhen
available.
Gasoline containing oxygenates

Some fuelsuppliers sellgasoline containing
oxygenates suchasethanol, MTBEandmetha-
nol with orwithout advertising theirpresence.
NISSAN doesnotrecommend theuse offuels
of which theoxygenate contentandthefuel
compatibility foryour NISSAN cannotbereadily
determined. Ifin doubt, askyour service station
manager.
If you use oxygenate-blend gasoline,pleasetake
the following precautions asthe usage ofsuch
fuels maycause vehicle performance problems

and/or fuelsystem damage.
. The fuel should beunleaded andhave
an octane ratingnolower thanthat
recommended forunleaded gasoline.
. Ifan oxygenate-blend, otherthan
methanol blendisused, itshould
contain nomore than10%oxygenate.
(MTBE may,however, beadded upto
15%.)
. E-15 fuelcontains morethan10%
oxygenate. E-15fuelwilladversely
affect theemission controldevices
and systems ofthe vehicle andshould
not beused. Damage causedbysuch
fuel isnot covered bythe NISSAN new
vehicle limitedwarranty.
. Ifamethanol blendisused, itshould
contain nomore than5%methanol
(methyl alcohol, woodalcohol) .It
should alsocontain asuitable amount
of appropriate cosolventsandcorro-
sion inhibitors. Ifnot properly formu-
lated withappropriate cosolventsand
corrosion inhibitors, suchmethanol
blends maycause fuelsystem damage
and/or vehicle performance problems.
At this time, sufficient dataisnot
available toensure thatallmethanol
blends aresuitable foruse inNISSAN vehicles.
If any driveability problemssuchasengine
stalling anddifficult hot-starting areexperienced
after using oxygenate-blend fuels,immediately
change toanon-oxygenate fuelorafuel with a
low blend ofMTBE.
T ake care nottospill gasoline during
refueling. Gasolinecontaining oxygenates
can cause paintdamage.
E-15 fuel

Aftermarket fueladditives

aftermarket fueladditives (forexample, fuel
injector cleaner, octanebooster, intakevalve
deposit removers, etc.)which aresold commer-
cially .Many ofthese additives intendedforgum,
varnish ordeposit removal maycontain active
solvent orsimilar ingredients thatcanbeharmful
to the fuel system andengine.

Using unleaded gasolinewithanoctane
rating lowerthanrecommended cancause
persistent, heavyªspark knockº.(Spark
knock isametallic rappingnoise.)If
severe, thiscanlead toengine damage. If
you detect apersistent heavysparkknock
even when using gasoline ofthe stated
octane rating,orifyou hear steady spark
knock whileholding asteady speedon
level roads, haveaNISSAN dealercorrect
the condition. Failuretocorrect thecondi-
tion ismisuse ofthe vehicle, forwhich
NISSAN isnot responsible.
Incorrect ignitiontimingwillresult inspark
knock, after-run and/oroverheating, whichmay
cause excessive fuelconsumption orengine
