The reclining featureallowsadjustment ofthe
seatback foroccupants ofdifferent sizesfor
added comfort andtohelp obtain proper seat
belt fit.(See ªPrecautions onseat beltusageº
(P .1-10) .)Also, theseatback canbereclined to
allow occupants torest when thevehicle is
stopped andthetransmission isin the P(Park)
position orN(Neutral) positionwiththeparking
brake fullyapplied.
NO TE:
. Depending onthe passenger's seat
sliding position whenthepassenger
seat isunoccupied whiledriving, a
noise maybeheard asthe side part
of the passenger's seatcontacts the
seat belttongue. Inthis case, move the
seat tothe rearmost positiontoavoid
interference.
. Ifyou arehaving difficulty turningthe
adjusting dial,park thevehicle and
then open thedoor orget out ofthe
vehicle tooperate the
dial.

belt when thevehicle slowsdownrapidly or
during certain impacts.
The Automatic LockingRetractor (ALR)mode
(child restraint mode)lockstheseat beltfor
child restraint installation.
When ALRmode isactivated theseat belt
cannot beextended againuntiltheseat belt
tongue isdetached fromthebuckle andfully
retracted. Theseat beltreturns tothe ELR mode
after theseat beltfully retracts. Foradditional
information, seeªChild restraintsº (P.1-18) .
The ALR mode should beused onlyfor
child restraint installation. Duringnormal
seat beltusebyan occupant, theALR
mode should notbeactivated. Ifitis
activated, itmay cause uncomfortable seat
belt tension.
WARNING
When fastening theseat belts, be
certain thatseatbacks arecompletely
secured inthe latched position. Ifthey
are not completely secured,passengers
may beinjured inan accident orsudden
stop.

justment buttonandtrytomove the
shoulder beltanchor upand down
to make sureitis securely fixedin
position.
. The shoulder beltanchor height
should beadjusted tothe position
best foryou. Failure todo somay
reduce theeffectiveness ofthe
entire restraint systemandincrease
the chance orseverity ofinjury inan
accident.

when folding downtherear seats, hooktherear
seat belts onthe seat belthooks.

If, because ofbody sizeordriving position, itis
not possible toproperly fitthe lap-shoulder belt
and fasten it,an extender thatiscompatible with
the installed seatbelts isavailable thatcanbe
purchased. Theextender addsapproximately 8
in (200 mm)oflength andmay beused foreither
the driver orfront passenger seatingposition.

purchasing anextender ifan extender isrequired.
WARNING
. Only NISSAN seatbeltextenders,
made bythe same company which
made theoriginal equipment seat
belts, should beused withNISSAN
seat belts.
. Adults andchildren whocanuse the
standard seatbeltshould notuse an
extender. Suchunnecessary use
could result inserious personal
injury inthe event ofan accident.
. Never useseat beltextenders to
install childrestraints. Ifthe child
restraint isnot secured properly, the
child could beseriously injuredina
collision orasudden stop.

. To clean theseat beltwebbing, applya
mild soap solution orany solution recom-
mended forcleaning upholstery orcarpets.
Then wipewithacloth andallow theseat
belts todry inthe shade. Donot allow the
seat belts toretract untilthey arecompletely
dry .

Ð Keep seatbacks asupright as
possible afterfitting thechild
restraint.
Ð Infants andchildren shouldal-
ways beplaced inan appropri-
ate child restraint whileinthe
vehicle.
. When thechild restraint isnot in
use, keep itsecured withtheLATCH
system oraseat belt. Inasudden
stop orcollision, looseobjects can
injure occupants ordamage the
vehicle.
CAUTION
A child restraint inaclosed vehicle can
become veryhot.Check theseating
surface andbuckles beforeplacing a
child inthe child restraint.
This vehicle isequipped withauniversal child
restraint anchorsystem, referred toas the
LA TCH (Lower Anchors andTethers forCHil-
dren) system. Somechildrestraints includerigid
or webbing-mounted attachmentsthatcanbe
connected tothese anchors. For
details, seeªLower Anchors andTethers for
CHildren System(LATCH)º (P.1-20) .
If you donot have aLA TCH compatible child
restraint, thevehicle seatbelts canbeused.
Several manufacturers offerchild restraints for
infants andsmall children ofvarious sizes.When
selecting anychild restraint, keepthefollowing
points inmind:
. Choose onlyarestraint withalabel certifying
that itcomplies withFederal MotorVehicle
Safety Standard 213orCanadian Motor
V ehicle Safety Standard 213.
. Check thechild restraint inyour vehicle to
be sure itis compatible withthevehicle's
seat andseat beltsystem.
. Ifthe child restraint iscompatible withyour
vehicle, placeyourchild inthe child restraint
and check thevarious adjustments tobe
sure thechild restraint iscompatible with
your child. Choose achild restraint thatis
designed foryour child's heightandweight.
Always followallrecommended procedures.
. Ifthe combined weightofthe child andchild
restraint isless than 65lbs (29.5 kg),you
may useeither theLATCH anchors orthe
seat belttoinstall thechild restraint (not
both atthe same time). .
Ifthe combined weightofthe child andchild
restraint isgreater than65lbs (29.5 kg),use
the vehicle's seatbelt(not thelower
anchors) toinstall thechild restraint.
. Besure tofollow thechild restraint manu-
facturer's instructions forinstallation.
All U.S. states andCanadian provinces or
territories requirethatinfants andsmall
children berestrained inan approved child
restraint atall times whilethevehicle is
being operated. Canadianlawrequires the
top tether straponforward-facing child
restraints besecured tothe designated
anchor pointonthe vehicle.
