High beam indicator light

This light illuminates whentheheadlight high
beam ison and goes outwhen thelow beam is
selected.
Malfunction IndicatorLight(MIL)

If the malfunction indicatorlightcomes on
steady orblinks whiletheengine isrunning, it
may indicate apotential emission controland/or
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)mal-
function.
The malfunction indicatorlightmayalso illumi-
nate steady ifthe fuel-filler capisloose or
missing, orifthe vehicle runsoutoffuel. Check
to make surethefuel-filler capisinstalled and
closed tightly,and that thevehicle hasatleast 3
US gallons (11.4liters) offuel inthe fuel tank.
After afew driving trips,the
light should
turn offifno other potential emission control
system malfunction exists.
If this indicator lightremains onfor 20 seconds
and then blinks for10 seconds whentheengine
is not running, itindicates thatthevehicle isnot
ready foranemission controlsystem inspection/
maintenance test.(See ªReadiness forInspec-
tion/Maintenance (I/M)testº(P.9-20) .)

vehicle couldtiporroll over. Always
back straight downinR(Reverse)

tral) ,using onlythebrake, asthis
could cause lossofcontrol.
. Heavy braking goingdownahill
could cause yourbrakes tooverheat
and fade, resulting inloss ofcontrol
and anaccident. Applybrakes
lightly andusealow range to
control yourspeed.
. Unsecured cargocanbethrown
around whendriving overrough
terrain. Properly secureallcargo
so itwill notbethrown forward
and cause injurytoyou oryour
passengers.
. To avoid raising thecenter ofgravity
excessively, donot exceed therated
capacity ofthe roof rack (ifso
equipped) andevenly distribute the
load. Secure heavyloadsinthe
cargo areaasfar forward andas
low aspossible. Donot equip the
vehicle withtires larger thanspeci-
fied inthis manual. Thiscould cause your
vehicle toroll over.
. Do not grip theinside orspokes of
the steering wheelwhendriving off-
road. Thesteering wheelcould
move suddenly andinjure your
hands. Instead drivewithyour fin-
gers andthumbs onthe outside of
the rim.
. Before operating thevehicle, ensure
that thedriver andallpassengers
have theirseatbelts fastened.
. Always drivewiththefloor mats in
place asthe floor maybecame hot.
. Lower yourspeed whenencounter-
ing strong crosswinds. Withahigher
center ofgravity, yourNISSAN is
more affected bystrong sidewinds.
Slower speeds ensurebettervehicle
control.
. Do not drive beyond theperfor-
mance capability ofthe tires, even
with AWD engaged.
. For AWD equipped vehicles,donot
attempt toraise twowheels offthe
ground andshift thetransmission to
any drive orreverse position with
the engine running. Doingsomay
result indrivetrain damageorun- expected
vehiclemovement which
could result inserious vehicleda-
mage orpersonal injury.
. Do not attempt totest anAWD
equipped vehicleona2-wheel dy-
namometer (suchasthe dynam-
ometers usedbysome states for
emissions testing),or similar equip-
ment evenifthe other twowheels
are raised offthe ground. Makesure
you inform testfacility personnel
that your vehicle isequipped with
AWD before itis placed ona
dynamometer. Usingthewrong test
equipment mayresult indrivetrain
damage orunexpected vehicle
movement whichcouldresult in
serious vehicledamage orpersonal
injury.
. When awheel isoff the ground due
to an unlevel surface, donot spin
the wheel excessively (AWDmodel) .
. Accelerating quickly,sharpsteering
maneuvers orsudden braking may
cause lossofcontrol.
. Ifat all possible, avoidsharp turning
maneuvers, particularlyathigh
speeds. Your vehicle hasahigher
center ofgravity thanaconventional

passenger car.The vehicle isnot
designed forcornering atthe same
speeds asconventional passenger
cars. Failure tooperate thisvehicle
correctly couldresult inloss of
control and/orarollover accident.
. Always usetires ofthe same type,
size, brand, construction (bias,bias-
belted orradial) ,and tread pattern
on allfour wheels. Installtraction
devices onthe front wheels when
driving onslippery roadsanddrive
carefully.
. Besure tocheck thebrakes imme-
diately afterdriving inmud orwater.

. Avoid parking yourvehicle onsteep
hills. Ifyou getout ofthe vehicle
and itrolls forward, backward or
sideways, youcould beinjured.
. Whenever youdrive off-road
through sand,mudorwater asdeep
as the wheel hub,more frequent
maintenance mayberequired. See
the maintenance informationinthe

Spinning thefront wheels onslip-
pery surfaces maycause theAWD
warning lighttoflash andtheAWD
system toautomatically switchfrom
the AWD mode tothe 2WD mode.
This could reduce traction. Beespe-
cially careful whentowing atrailer
(AWD model) .

If the Intelligent Key iswithin theoperating

who does notcarry theIntelligent Key ,to push
the ignition switchtostart theengine. .
The cargo roomareaisnot included inthe
operating rangebuttheIntelligent Key may
function.
. Ifthe Intelligent Key isplaced onthe
instrument panel,insidetheglove boxor
door pocket, theIntelligent Key may not
function.
. Ifthe Intelligent Key isplaced nearthedoor
or window outsidethevehicle, theIntelligent
K ey may function.
