Overdrive off indicator light
(Automatic transmission
models only)
This light comes on during driving when the
overdrive switch is pressed to prevent over-
drive operation.
The O/D OFF indicator light comes on for two
seconds each time the ignition key is turned
ON. This shows the light is functioning prop-
erly.If the O/D OFF indicator light blinks for
approximately 8 seconds after coming on for
2 seconds, have your NISSAN dealer check
the transmission and repair it if necessary. The automatic transmission is equipped with
an electronic Fail-Safe mode. This system
allows the vehicle to be driven even in the
event of damage to the electrical circuits. If this
occurs, the gears automatically engage and
lock into 3rd gear.
See ªDriving the vehicleº in the ª5. Starting
and drivingº section for failsafe before vis-
iting your NISSAN dealer.

Your vehicle may have two types of security
system, as follows:
ITheft warning (if so equipped)
INissan Vehicle Immobilizer System
The security condition will be shown by the
security indicator light.THEFT WARNING (if so equipped)The theft warning system provides visual and
audio alarm signals if parts of the vehicle are
disturbed.
Security indicator lightThis light blinks whenever the ignition switch is
in the LOCK, OFF or ACC position. This
function indicates the security systems
equipped on the vehicle are operational. How to activate the theft warning
system1. Close all windows.
The system can be activated even if the
windows are open.
2. Remove the key from the ignition switch.3. Close and lock all doors, hood, back door

checks and adjustmentsº section for locking
all doors simultaneously.
4. Confirm that the SECURITY indicator light
comes on. The SECURITY light glows for
about 30 seconds and then begins to flash.
The system is now activated. If, during this
30 second time period, the door is unlocked
by the key or multi-remote controller, or the
ignition key is turned to ACC or ON, the
system will not activate.
Theft warning system operationThe warning system will give the following
alarm:
IThe headlights blink and the horn sounds
intermittently.
IThe alarm automatically turns off after 2 to
3 minutes; however, the alarm will reacti-
vate if the vehicle is tampered with again.
The alarm is activated by:
IUnlocking the door, back door or back door
glass hatch without using the key or multi-

has been disconnected from the battery for
more than 1 second.
How to stop alarmThe alarm will stop only by unlocking a door or
back door with the key or multi-remote control-
ler. The alarm will not stop if the ignition switch
is turned to ACC.
If the system does not operate as de-
scribed above, have it checked by your
NISSAN dealer.NISSAN VEHICLE IMMOBILIZER
SYSTEMThe Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System will
not allow the engine to start without the use of
the registered Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer Sys-
tem key.
If the engine fails to start using the registeredNissan Vehicle Immobilizer System key (for
example, when interference is caused by an-
other Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System key,
an automated toll road device or automated
payment device on the key ring), restart the
engine using the following procedures:
1. Leave the ignition switch in the ON position
for approximately 5 seconds.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF or LOCK
position, and wait approximately 5 seconds.
3. Repeat step 1 and 2.
4. Restart the engine while holding the device
(which may have caused the interference)
separate from the registered Nissan Ve-
hicle Immobilizer System key.
If the no start condition re-occurs, NISSAN
recommends placing the registered Nissan
Vehicle Immobilizer System key on a separate
key ring to avoid interference from other de-
vices.

their hands, etc. inside the vehicle
before closing the windows. Use the
window lock switch to prevent unex-
pected use of the power windows.
IDo not leave children unattended in-

date the functions of up to three individual
hand-held transmitters into one built-in device.
Integrated HomeLink
Universal Transceiver:
IWill operate most Radio Frequency (RF)
devices such as garage doors, gates, home
and office lighting, entry door locks and
security systems.
IIs powered by your vehicle's battery. No
separate batteries are required. If the vehi-
cle's battery is discharged or is discon-
nected, HomeLinkwill retain all program-
ming.
Once the Integrated HomeLink
Universal
Transceiver is programmed, retain the
original transmitter for future programming
procedures (i.e., new vehicle purchases).
Upon sale of the vehicle, the programmed
Integrated HomeLink
Universal Trans-
ceiver buttons should be erased for secu-
rity purposes. For additional information,

You can only drive your vehicle using the
master keys which are registered to the Nissan
Vehicle Immobilizer System components in
your vehicle. These keys have a transponder
chip in the key head.
The keys can be used for the door, back door
or glove box locks.
Never leave these keys in the vehicle.
Record the key number on the key number
plate supplied with your keys and keep it in a
safe place (such as your wallet), not in the
vehicle. NISSAN does not record any key
number so it is very important to keep track of
your key number plate.A key number is only necessary when you
have lost all keys and do not have one to
duplicate from. If you still have a key, this key
can be duplicated by your NISSAN dealer.
Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System keys:
The key number is necessary when you need
extra Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System
keys. As many as 5 Nissan Vehicle Immobi-
lizer System keys can be used with one ve-
hicle. New keys must be registered to the
Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System compo-
nents in your vehicle by your NISSAN dealer.
At this time, you should bring all Nissan Ve-
hicle Immobilizer System keys that you have to
your NISSAN dealer for registration. This is
because the registration process will erase all
memory of the Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer
System components.
WARNING
IAlways have the doors locked while
driving. Along with the use of seat
belts, this provides greater safety in
the event of an accident by helping to
prevent persons from being thrown
from the vehicle. This also helps keep
children and others from unintention-
ally opening the doors, and will help
keep out intruders.
IBefore opening any door, always look
for and avoid oncoming traffic.
IDo not leave children unattended in-
side the vehicle. They could unknow-
ingly activate switches or controls.
Unattended children could become
involved in serious accidents.
