position. For additional information, efer to “Driv-
ing the vehicle” in the “Starting and driving” sec-
tion of this manual.
Cruise main switch indicatorlight
The light comes on when the cruise control main
switch is pushed. The light goes out when the
main switch is pushed again. When the cruise
main switch indicator light comes on, the cruise
control system is operational. For additional infor-
mation, refer to “Cruise control” in the “Starting
and driving” section of this manual.
ECO mode indicator light
This light comes on when the ECO mode has
been selected. For additional information, refer to
“ECO mode switch” in the “Starting and driving”
section for the use of the ECO mode switch.
Engine start operationindicator (if so equipped)
For vehicles equipped with push-button ignition
this indicator illuminates when the ignition switch
is in the LOCK, OFF, ACC or ON position.
This indicator means that the engine will start by
pushing the push-button ignition switch with the
brake pedal and clutch pedal (if so equipped)
depressed.
Front fog light indicator light (if
so equipped)
The front fog light indicator light illuminates when
the front fog lights are ON. For additional infor-
mation, refer to “Fog light switch” in this section.
Front passenger air bag statuslight
The front passenger air bag status light will be lit
and the passenger front air bag will be off de-
pending on how the front passenger seat is being
used.
For front passenger air bag status light operation,
refer to “Front passenger air bag and status light”
in the “Safety — Seats, seat belts and supple-
mental restraint system” section of this manual.
High beam indicator light(blue)
This blue light comes on when the headlight high
beams are on and goes out when the low beams
are selected.
The high beam indicator light also comes on
when the passing signal is activated.
Malfunction Indicator Light(MIL)
If this indicator light comes on steady or blinks
while the engine is running, it may indicate a
potential emission control malfunction.
The MIL may also come on steady if the fuel-filler
cap is loose or missing, or if the vehicle runs out
of fuel. Check to make sure the fuel-filler cap is
installed and closed tightly, and that the vehicle
has at least 3 gallons (11.4 liters) of fuel in the
fuel tank.
After a few driving trips, the
light should
turn off if no other potential emission control
system malfunction exists.
If this indicator light comes on steady for 20 sec-
onds and then blinks for 10 seconds when the
engine is not running, it indicates that the vehicle
is not ready for an emission control system
inspection/maintenance test. For additional infor-
mation, refer to “Readiness for
inspection/maintenance (I/M) test” in the “Tech-
nical and consumer information” section of this
manual.

Autolight system (if so equipped)
The autolight system allows the headlights to be
set so they turn on and off automatically. The
autolight system can:● Turn on the headlights, front parking, tail,
license plate and instrument panel lights au-
tomatically when it is dark.
● The autolight system will turn on if the wind-
shield wipers make four continuous passes
(USA only) .
● Turn off all the lights when it is light. ●
Keep all the lights on a period of time after
you turn the key to OFF and all doors are
closed.
To turn on the autolight system: 1. Turn the headlight switch to the AUTO posi- tion
1.
2. Turn the ignition key to ON.
3. The autolight system automatically turns the headlights on and off.
Initially, if the ignition switch is turned OFF and a
door is opened and left open, the headlights
remain ON for a period of time. If another door is
opened while the headlights are on, then the
timer is reset.
To turn the autolight system off, turn the switch to
the OFF,
,orposition.
Be sure you do not put anything on top of
the autolight sensor located in the top side
of the instrument panel. The autolight sen-
sor controls the autolight; if it is covered,
the autolight sensor reacts as if it is dark
out and the headlights will illuminate. If
this occurs while parked with the engine off
and the key in the ON position, your vehi-
cle’s battery could become discharged.
Headlight beam select
1To select the high beam function, push the
lever forward. The high beam lights come on
and the
light illuminates.
2Pull the lever back to select the low beam.
3Pulling and releasing the lever flashes the
headlight high beams on and off.
Battery saver system
If the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position
while the headlight switch is in the
orposition, the headlights will turn off after
a period of time.

CAUTION
Even though the battery saver feature au-
tomatically turns off the headlights after a
period of time, you should turn the head-
light switch to the OFF position when the
engine is not running to avoid discharging
the vehicle battery.
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT SYSTEM
(Canada only)
The headlights automatically illuminate at 100%
intensity (Low beam is used for the Daytime
Running Light System) when the engine is
started and the parking brake is released. The
daytime running lights operate with the headlight
switch in the OFF position. When the daytime
running light system is active, the clearance
lights, front side marker lights, tail lights and rear
side marker lights are also On.
When you turn the headlight switch to
the
position for full illumination when driv-
ing at night you will not notice any difference in
the Low Beam. If the parking brake is applied before the engine is
started, the daytime running lights do not illumi-
nate. The daytime running lights illuminate when
the parking brake is released. The daytime run-
ning lights remain on while the engine is running.
It is necessary at dusk to turn headlight switch
ON for interior controls and switches to illumi-
nate, as those remain OFF while switch is in the
OFF position.

result.
CAUTION
• Do not touch glass surface of the bulb
with bare hands or allow oil or grease to
get on it to prevent damage to bulb.
• Do not leave the bulb out of the lamp
reflector for a long time because dust,
moisture, smoke, etc. may affect the per-
formance of the lamp.
• Fog may temporarily form inside the lens
of the exterior lights in the rain or in a car
wash. A temperature difference between
the inside and the outside of the lens
causes the fog. This is not a malfunction. If
large drops of water collect inside the
lens, contact a NISSAN dealer.
