SYSTEM
CONDITIONS FOR INDICATOR LAMP ILLUMINATION
• Turns ON when VDC and TCS functions are switched to
non-operational status (OFF) by VDC OFF switch.
• Turns ON when ignition switch turns ON and turns OF F when the system is normal, for bulb check purposes.
CONDITIONS FOR WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATION
Turns ON when ignition switch turns ON and turns OFF when the system is normal, for bulb check purposes.
Component Function
Pump Returns the brake fluid reserved in reservoir to master cylinder by reducing pressure.
Motor Activates the pu mp according to signals from ABS actuator and el ectric unit (control unit).
Cut valve 1
Cut valve 2 Shuts off the ordinary brake line from master cylinder.
Suction valve 1
Suction valve 2 Supplies the brake fluid from master cylinder to the pump.
ABS IN valve Switches the fluid pressure line to increase or hold according to signals from control unit.
ABS OUT valve Switches the fluid pressure li ne to increase, hold or decrease according to si gnals from control unit.
Return check valve Returns the brake fluid from brake caliper to master cylinder by bypassing orifice of each valve when
brake is released.
Reservoir Temporarily reserves the brake fluid drained from brake caliper, so that pressure efficiently decreas-
es when decreasing pressure of brake caliper.
Pressure sensor Detects the brak e fluid pressure and transmits signal to ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit).

FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
• Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system provides a
lane departure warning function when the vehicle is
driven at speeds of approximately 70 km/h (45 MPH) or more.
• When the vehicle approaches either the left or the ri ght side of the traveling lane, a warning will sound and
the lane departure warning lamp (orange) on the combination meter will blink to alert the driver.
• The warning does not occur during turn signal operation (Lane change side).
• The warning function will stop when the vehicle returns inside of the lane markers.
EXAMPLE
When the vehicle approaches the right lane marker, the driv er is alerted by the buzzer and the blinking of lane
departure warning lamp (orange).
OPERATION DESCRIPTION
• When the system is turned ON by operating the warning systems switch, ITS control unit turns ON the warn-
ing systems ON indicator.
• Rear view camera monitors lane markers of the trav eling lane. It transmits the detected lane condition signal
to ITS control unit via ITS communication.
• When judging from a lane marker detection signal that the vehicle is approaching the lane marker, the ITS
control unit controls the following item to alert the driver.
- Activates warning buzzer
- ITS control unit transmits a lane departure warning lamp signal to combination meter via CAN communica- tion and turns ON/OFF the lane departure warning lamp (orange).
OPERATING CONDITION
• Warning systems ON indicator: ON
• Vehicle speed: approximately 70 km/h (45 MPH) or more
• Turn indicator signal: After 2 seconds or more from turned OFF
NOTE:
• When the LDW system setting on the vehicle information display is ON.
• After the operating conditions of warning are satisfi ed, the warning continues until the vehicle speed reaches
approximately 60 km/h (40 MPH)
• The LDW system may not function properly, depending on the situation. Refer to DAS-82, "Precautions for
Lane Departure Warning"

The sensor measures temperature around the battery.
The electrical resistance of the t hermistor decreases as temperature
increases.

Malfunction Indicator lamp (MIL)INFOID:0000000009462083
The Malfunction Indicator lamp (MIL) is located on the combination
meter.
The MIL will illuminate when the ignition switch is turned ON without
the engine running. This is a bulb check.
When the engine is started, the MI L should turn OFF. If the MIL
remains illuminated, the on board diagnostic system has detected an
engine system malfunction.
For details, refer to EC-74, "DIAGNOSIS DESCRIPTION : Malfunc-
tion Indicator Lamp (MIL)".
Oil Pressure Warning LampINFOID:0000000009462084
Oil pressure warning lamp is located on the combination meter.
It indicates the low pressure of the engine oil and the malfunction of
the engine oil pressure system.
Combination meter turns the oil pressure warning lamp ON/OFF
according to the oil pressure warning lamp signal received from
ECM via CAN communication.
For details, refer to EC-55, "ENGINE PROTECTION CONTROL AT
LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE : System Description".
Refrigerant Pressure SensorINFOID:0000000009462085
The refrigerant pressure sensor is installed at the c ondenser of the air conditioner system. The sensor uses an
electrostatic volume pressure transducer to convert refrigerant pressure to voltage. The voltage signal is sent
to ECM, and ECM controls cooling fan system.

Stop lamp switch and brake pedal position switch are installed to brake pedal bracket.
ECM detects the state of the brake pedal by those two types of input (ON/OFF signal).

Ignition Coil (With Power Transistor)

The ignition signal from the ECM is sent to and amplified by the
power transistor. The power transistor turns ON and OFF the ignition
coil primary circuit. This ON/OFF operation induces the proper high
voltage in the coil secondary circuit.
Intake Valve Timing Control Solenoid ValveINFOID:0000000009462502
Intake valve timing control solenoid valve is activated by ON/OFF
pulse duty (ratio) signals from the ECM.
The intake valve timing control solenoid valve changes the oil
amount and direction of flow through intake valve timing control unit
or stops oil flow.
The longer pulse width advances valve angle.
The shorter pulse width retards valve angle.
When ON and OFF pulse widths become equal, the solenoid valve
stops oil pressure flow to fix the intake valve angle at the control
position.
Knock SensorINFOID:0000000009462503
The knock sensor is attached to t he cylinder block. It senses engine
knocking using a piezoelectric element. A knocking vibration from
the cylinder block is sensed as vibrational pressure. This pressure is
converted into a voltage signal and sent to the ECM.
Malfunction Indicator lamp (MIL)INFOID:0000000009462504
Malfunction Indicator lamp (MIL) is located on the combination
meter.
MIL will illuminate when the ignition switch is turned ON without the
engine running. This is a bulb check.
When the engine is started, MIL should turn OFF. If the MIL remains
illuminated, the on board diagnosti c system has detected an engine
system malfunction.

DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM (ECM)
PERMANENT DTC SET TIMING
The setting timing of permanent DTC is stored in EC
M with the lighting of MIL when a DTC is confirmed.
DIAGNOSIS DESCRIPTION : Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)INFOID:0000000009462539
• When detecting a DTC that affects exhaust gas, the exhaust emis-
sion-related control module transmits a malfunction indicator lamp
signal to ECM via CAN communication line.
ECM prioritizes (MIL: ON/blink) the signal received from the
exhaust emission-related control module and the ECM-stored DTC
that affects exhaust gas and transmits a malfunction indicator lamp
signal to the combination meter via CAN communication line.
The combination meter turns ON or blinks the MIL, according to
the signal transmitted from ECM, and alerts the driver of malfunc-
tion detection.
• Control modules that a DTC of MIL ON/Blink is stored (Control module varies among DTCs.):
-ECM
-TCM
1. The MIL illuminates when ignition switch is turned ON (engine is not running). NOTE:
Check the MIL circuit if MIL does not illuminate. Refer to EC-973, "Component Function Check"
.
2. When the engine is started, the MIL should go off. NOTE:
If MIL remains ON or continues blinking, a DTC(s) t hat affects exhaust gas is detected. In this case, Self
diagnosis is required for performing inspection and repair.

ON BOARD DIAGNOSIS ITEM
The on board diagnostic system has the following functions.
BULB CHECK MODE
Description
This function allows damage inspection in the MIL bulb (blown, open circuit, etc.).
Operation Procedure
1. Turn ignition switch ON.
2. The MIL on the instrument panel should stay ON.
If it remains OFF, check MIL circuit. Refer to EC-973, "Diagnosis Procedure"

TURN SIGNAL LAMP CIRCUIT

The BCM monitors inputs from the combination switch to determine when to activate the turn signals. The
BCM outputs voltage direction to the left and right turn signals during turn signal operation or both during haz-
ard warning operation. The BCM sends a turn signal indicator request to the combination meter via the CAN
communication lines.
The BCM performs the fast flasher operation (fail-safe) if any bulb or harness of the turn signal lamp circuit is
open.
NOTE:
Turn signal lamp blinks at normal speed when using the hazard warning lamp.

1.CHECK TURN SIGNAL LAMP
CONSULT
1. Select FLASHER of BCM (FLASHER) active test item.
2. With operating the test items, check that the turn signal lamp blinks.
Does the turn signal lamp blink?
YES >> Turn signal lamp circuit is normal.
NO >> Refer to EXL-106, "Diagnosis Procedure"

1.CHECK TURN SIGNAL LAMP BULB
Check the applicable lamp bulb to be sure the proper bulb standard is in use and the bulb is not open.
Is the bulb OK?
YES >> GO TO 2.
NO >> Replace the bulb.
2.CHECK TURN SIGNAL LAMP OUTPUT VOLTAGE
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the front or rear combination lamp har ness connector or the door mirror harness connector (if
equipped with turn signal in mirror) in question.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
4. Operate the turn signal switch.
5. While the turn signal is operating, check the vo ltage between the front combination lamp harness connec-
tor and ground. LH : Turn signal lamps (LH) ON
RH : Turn signal lamps (RH) ON

and parking brake switch are in the normal setting, also whenever engine is operating.

1.CHECK DAYTIME LIGHT OPERATION
1. Perform BCM(HEADLAMP) DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT active test. Refer to BCS-19, "HEADLAMP :
CONSULT Function (BCM - HEADLAMP)".
2. Check that the daytime lights turn on.
Is the inspection results normal?
YES >> Replace BCM. Refer to BCS-80, "Removal and Installation".
NO >> GO TO 2.
2.CHECK DAYTIME LIGHT RELAY FUSE
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Check that the following fuse is not blown.
Is the fuse blown?
YES >> Replace the blown fuse after repairing the affected circuit.
NO >> GO TO 3.
3.CHECK DAYTIME LIGHT BULBS
Check the daytime light bulbs are not open.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES >> GO TO 4.
NO >> Replace the bulbs.
4.PERFORM DAYTIME LIGH T CIRCUIT INSPECTION
Check the daytime light circuit. Refer to EXL-98, "Diagnosis Procedure"
.
Is the inspection results normal?
YES >> Replace IPDM E/R. Refer to PCS-32, "Removal and Installation".
NO >> Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
