When theignition switchisin the ªONº position, the
Anti-lock BrakingSystem(ABS)warning lightillumi-
nates andthen turns off.This indicates theABS is
operational.
If the ABS warning lightilluminates whiletheengine is
running, orwhile driving, itmay indicate theABS isnot
functioning properly.Have thesystem checked bya
NISSAN dealerpromptly .
If an ABS malfunction occurs,theanti-lock functionis
turned off.The brake system thenoperates normally,
but without anti-lock assistance. (SeeªBrake systemº
(P .5-57) .)
Brake warning light(red)

. Ifthe brake fluidlevel isbelow theminimum
mark onthe brake fluidreservoir, donot
drive thevehicle untilthebrake system has
been checked byaNISSAN dealer.
. Even ifyou judge itto be safe, haveyour
vehicle towedbecause drivingitcould be
dangerous.
. Depressing thebrake pedalwithout the
engine running and/orwithalow brake
fluid level could increase thestopping dis-
tance andrequire greater pedaltravel dis-
tance andeffort.
The brake warning lightindicates theparking brake
system operation (modelsnotequipped withelectronic
parking brakesystem) ,a low brake fluidlevel ofthe
brake system andanAnti-lock BrakingSystem(ABS)
malfunction.
Parking brakewarning indicator (modelsnot

When theignition switchisplaced inthe ªONº
position, thebrake warning lightilluminates. When
the engine isstarted andtheparking brakeisreleased,
the brake warning lightturns off.
If the parking brakeisnot fully released, thebrake
warning lightremains on.Besure thatthebrake
warning lighthasturned offbefore driving. (See

engine andcheck thebrake fluidlevel. Ifthe brake fluid
level isat the minimum mark,addbrake fluidas

If the brake fluidlevel issufficient, havethebrake
system checked byaNISSAN dealerpromptly .
Anti-lock BrakingSystem(ABS)warning indi-

Charge warning light

This indicates thecharging systemisoperational.
If the charge warning lightilluminates whiletheengine
is running, orwhile driving, itmay indicate thecharging
system isnot functioning properlyandmay need
servicing.
When thecharge warning lightilluminates while
driving, stopthevehicle safelyassoon aspossible.
Stop theengine andcheck thealternator belt.Ifthe
alternator beltisloose, broken ormissing, thecharging

fastened. Atthe same time,thechime willsound for
about 6seconds unlessthedriver's seatbeltis
securely fastened. T

front seatbeltwarning lightonthe meter illuminates.
The light willcontinue toilluminate untilthedriver's

When thevehicle speedexceeds 15km/h (10MPH) ,
the light willblink andthechime willsound unless the
front seatbeltissecurely fastened. Thechime will
continue tosound forabout 95seconds untiltheseat

Speed [120km/h (75MPH)] warning
light (ifequipped)

This light blinks whenthevehicle speedgoesover
approximately 120km/h (75MPH) .Be sure toobserve
the speed limitinthe area where youaredriving.
Supplemental RestraintSystem(SRS)
air bag warning light

When theignition switchisin the ªONº position, the
Supplemental RestraintSystem(SRS)airbag warning
light illuminates forabout 7seconds andthen turns off.
This indicates theSRS airbag system isoperational.
If any ofthe following conditions occur,theSRS air
bag system and/orpre-tensioner seatbeltneed
servicing. Havethesystem checked, andifnecessary
repaired, byaNISSAN dealerpromptly .
. TheSRS airbag warning lightremains illuminated
after about 7seconds.
. The SRS airbag warning lightflashes intermit-
tently . .
The SRS airbag warning lightdoes notcome on
at all.
Unless checked andrepaired, theSRS airbag system
and/or pre-tensioner seatbeltmay notfunction
properly .(See ªSupplemental RestraintSystem

V ehicle Dynamic Control(VDC)warn-
ing light (except forEurope)/Electronic Sta-
bility Program (ESP)warning light(for

V ehicle Dynamic Control(VDC)/Electronic Stability
Program (ESP)warning lightilluminates andthen turns
off.
The warning lightblinks whentheVDC/ESP systemis
operating.
When thewarning lightblinks whiledriving, thedriving
condition isslippery andthevehicle's tractionlimitis
about tobe exceeded.
If the VDC/ESP warninglightilluminates whilethe
engine isrunning orwhile driving, itmay indicate that
the VDC/ESP systemisnot functioning properlyand
may need servicing. Havethesystem checked, andif
necessary repaired,byaNISSAN dealerpromptly .If a
malfunction occurs,theVDC/ESP functionisturned
off, but thevehicle isstill drivable. (SeeªVehicle

request switchonthe driver's orfront passenger's
side door ispushed, onlythecorresponding door
is unlocked. Allthe doors canbeunlocked ifthe
door handle request switchispushed againwithin
1 minute. Whenthisitem isturned tooff, allthe
doors willbeunlocked whenthedoor handle
request switchispushed once.FromtheªUn-

Setting thetire replacement indicatorfora

regular tirechecks. Failuretoperform regular
tire checks, including tirepressure checkscould
result intire failure. Serious vehicledamage
could occurandmay lead toacollision, which

long asthe low tirepressure warninglightremains
illuminated. Ifthis warning appears, stopthevehicle
and adjust thepressure tothe recommended COLD

to the engine.
17. OilLevel Lowindicator (fordiesel engine

If the low level indicator isdisplayed, theengine oil
level islow .If the low level reminder isdisplayed, check

CAUTION:
The oillevel should bechecked regularly using
the engine oildipstick. Operating withan
insufficient amountofoil can damage the
engine andsuch damage isnot covered bythe
warranty.
18. Oillevel sensor warning (fordiesel engine
