A turn signal or the hazard warning flashers are activated.
Rapid flashing: failure of a turn signal light or associated fuse, failure of turn

Seat belt reminder on front seats X for driver's seat illuminates or
flashes red.

maximum of 100 seconds until the
seat belt has been fastened.

Have the cause of the fault
remedied immediately by a
workshop.
Antilock brake system
(ABS)
u illuminates yellow.
Illuminates for a few seconds after the ignition is switched on. The system is
ready for operation when the control
indicator extinguishes.
If the control indicator does not
extinguish after a few seconds, or if it illuminates while driving, there is a
fault in the ABS. The brake system
remains operational but without ABS
regulation.
Antilock brake system 3 151.
Upshift R with the number of a higher gear is
indicated or pops up as a full page in
the Driver Information Centre when
upshifting is recommended for fuel
saving reasons.
EcoFlex drive assistant 3 95.
Power steering
c illuminates yellow.
Illuminates with power steering
reduced
Power steering is reduced due to
overheating of the system. Control
indicator extinguishes when the
system has cooled down.

118LightingCountry lighting
Activated automatically at a speed
range between approx. 55 and
115 km/h. The beam of light and the
brightness is different between the left and the right side.
Motorway lighting Activated automatically at a speed
above approx. 115 km/h and minimal
steering movements. It switches on
after a delay or directly when the
vehicle is powerfully accelerated. The
light beam is longer and brighter.
Adverse weather lighting
Activated automatically up to a speed of approx. 70 km/h, when the rain
sensor recognizes condensation or
the wiper operates continuously. The
range, distribution and light intensity
is regulated variably depending on
visibility.Dynamic curve lighting
The light beam pivots based on
steering wheel angle and speed,
improving lighting in curves.

Corner lighting
On tight bends or when turning off,
depending on the steering angle or
the turn signal light, an additional left
or right reflector is switched on which illuminates the road at a right angle to
the direction of travel. It is activated
up to a speed of 40 km/h.

Reversing function
If the headlights are on and reverse
gear is engaged, both corner lights
are switched on. They remain
illuminated for 20 seconds after
disengaging reverse gear or until
driving faster than 17 km/h in a
forward gear.
High beam assist This feature allows high beam as
main driving light by night and when
vehicle speed is faster than 40 km/h.
It switches to low beam when: ● The camera in the windscreen detects the lights of oncoming or
preceding vehicles.
● The vehicle speed is slower than
20 km/h.
● It is foggy or snowy.
● Driving in urban areas.
If there are no restrictions detected,
the system switches back to high
beam.

Control of the vehicle
Never coast with engine not
running (except during Autostop)
Many systems will not function in this
situation (e.g. brake servo unit, power steering). Driving in this manner is a
danger to yourself and others. All
systems function during an Autostop,
but there will be a controlled reduction
in power steering assist and vehicle
speed is reduced.
Stop-start system 3 139.
Idle boost
If charging of the battery is required
due to battery condition, the power
output of the generator has to be
increased. This will be achieved by an idle boost which may be audible. A
message is displayed in the Driver
Information Centre.Pedals
To ensure the pedal travel is
uninhibited, there must be no mats in the area of the pedals.
Use only floor mats, which fit properly
and are fixed by the retainers on the
driver's side.
Steering If power steering assist is lost
because the engine stops or due to a
system malfunction, the vehicle can
be steered but may require increased
effort.
Control indicator c 3 92.Caution
Vehicles equipped with hydraulic
power steering:
If the steering wheel is turned until it reaches the end of its travel, and
is held in that position for more
than 15 seconds, damage may
occur to the power steering
system and there may be loss of
power steering assist.
Ground clearance
Due to the reduced ground clearance,
the vehicle can be damaged
depending on the vehicle loading and
appearance of the ground. Take
special care and drive slowly on steep driveways, entry and exit of parking
garages, high kerbs and uneven
surfaces. If possible, drive diagonally
with one wheel after another when running over kerbs or uneven
surfaces.

New vehicle running-in
Do not brake unnecessarily hard for
the first few journeys.
During the first drive, smoke may
occur because of wax and oil
evaporating off the exhaust system.
Park the vehicle in the open for a
while after the first drive and avoid
inhaling the fumes.
During the running-in period fuel and engine oil consumption may be
higher and the cleaning process of
the diesel particle filter may take
place more often. Autostop may be
inhibited to allow for charging the
vehicle battery.

work until the driver's door is opened
or for a maximum of 10 minutes after
the ignition is switched off:
● power windows
● power outlets
Starting the engine
Manual transmission: operate clutch.
Automatic transmission: operate
brake and move the selector lever to
P or N.
Do not operate the accelerator pedal. Diesel engine: turn the key to position2 for preheating until control
indicator ! extinguishes.
Turn the key briefly to position 3 and
release: an automatic procedure
operates the starter with a short delay
as long as the engine is running, see
'Automatic Starter Control'.
