Lift release lev er on outboard side of

Three-stage restraint system

The thre e stag es are a ctivated in se quence
depending on the seriousness of the
accident:
zThe automa tic se at be lt locking de vices
pre vent the belt s trap from be ing pulle d
out and thus ensure that the v ehicle
occupants are re tained in the ir se ats .
zThe se at be lts are pulled down at the
be lt buckles . This mak es the b elts fit
snugly, the oc cup ants are decelerated
toge the r with the v ehicle, and the body
i s su b j e c t ed t o l es s st r e ss .
zThe airbag sy ste ms a re als o trigge red in
t h e ev en t o f s er i o u s a cci de n t s a n d f o r m a
s afety cushion for the occupants.
De pending on the se verity of the
accide nt, the airbags inflate
in two stages.9 Wa r nin g
The airbag sy ste ms are s upple mentary
to the three -point se at be lts and belt
tensioners, and the sea t belts must
the refore always be worn. Dis re garding
the se ins tructions may le ad to injuries or
endanger life. Vehicle passengers should
be informe d accordingly.

move me nt although the spring te ns ioned
be lts are alway s a s nug fit.

Sea t be lts are only de s ig ne d for us e by one
pers on at a time . They are not s uitable for
pers ons y ounge r tha n 12 ye ars of age or
sma ller than 150 cm.Be lt forc e li mite rs
Belt force limiters on the seats reduce the
s tres s on the body due to controlle d re leas e
of the belt during a collis ion. This m eans
that the oc cup ants m ov e forward unde r
control.

After an accid ent, hav e belts and dep loy ed
be lt tens ione rs re place d by a works hop.
Do not pe rform any alte ra tions on the
be lts, the ir anchorages, the automatic
re trac tors or the belt buck le s.
Mak e s ure that b elts are not da mage d or
trappe d by s harp-e dge d objec ts.

Belt tension ers
The se at belts are fitted w ith b elt
tens ione rs. The s ea t belts are pulled d ow n
at the buckles in the eve nt of frontal
impac ts ab ov e a certain s ev erity. This
tightens the be lts.
Actua tion of be lt t ens ione rs
Indicated by continuous illumination of
control indicatorv in the ins trum ent pa ne l.
The b elt te ns ioners must be re place d
after activation. Cons ult a works hop.

The ope ra tion of the belt te nsioners is
monitore d e lectronically together with sea t
oc cup anc y re cog nition and the airbag
sy st e m s a n d i s i nd i c a t ed b y c o n t r o l
indica torv.
Whe n the ignition is s witched on, the
control indicator flas he s for approx.
5 se conds . If it does not flas h, does not go
out a fter 5 seconds or illuminates while
driving, there is a fault in the
belt te nsioners , s eat oc cup anc y
re cognition or the airbag sys te ms –
se e a lso pag es 4 5, 48 . Th e s yste ms may
fa il to deploy in the e vent of an accident.

indica ted b y continuous illum ination ofv.The sy ste m’s inte grate d s elf-diagnostics
allows faults to b e q uick ly rem edie d.

injury if the belt tensione rs are trigge red .
zDo not m ake any modifications to the
com pone nts of the be lt tensione rs, a s
this will render the vehic le unroadw orthy.
zThe be lt tensione r and airbag sy ste m
control e lectronics c an be found in the
centre c onsole area. I n ord er to av oid
malfunctions, do not store magnetic
ob je c t s i n t hi s a r e a .zWe recommend that you have the seats
rem oved by a workshop in the ev ent of
actuation of the be lt tensione rs.
zThe belt te ns ioners are for s ingle us e
only, w hich is indicate d by continuous
illumination of control indicatorv. Hav e
de ployed be lt tensioners re placed by a
workshop .
zApplicable safe ty directive s mus t alwa ys
be observed when disposing of the
vehicle. For this reason, disposal should
be done by an a uthorise d re cycling
compa ny .
Using the belts
F itti ng the be lt
Pull the be lt out from the re tractor and
guide it acros s the body, making c ertain
that it is not twiste d.
Insert the latch plate into the buckle .
The se at back re s t must not be tilted back
too far (the rec om mende d m aximum tilting
angle is approx. 25
o).
Mak e sure that the lap be lt is not twiste d
and that it fits s nugly across the body.
Te ns ion the be lt fre quently while driving by
tugging the diagonal part of the belt.

Inc orrect handling (e.g. removal or fitting
of b elts or belt buc kles ) can de ploy the
belt te nsioners with risk of injury.

Thick layers of clothing p revent the belt
from fitting snugly. The belt must not rest
agains t hard or fragile objects in the
pockets of your clothing (e.g. b allpoint
pen, keys, spectacles), since this could
cause injury. No objects such as handbags,
mobile phone s etc. must be p re s ent
be twee n the be lt and y our body .Dr ive r’s s ea t be lt w arning de v ice X

when the ig nition is sw itche d on, or until
driver’s s eat belt is fas tened . F lashe s for a
further 60 seconds if se at be lt rem ains

driver’s s eat belt re mains unfas tene d, the
control indicator will illum inate for a pprox.

belt rem ains unfastened.
W hen the vehicle is being d riv en, if the
pas s enge r’ s se at is occupied a nd the be lt
remains unfastened, the control indicator
will illuminate for a pprox. 2 0 s econds and
then flash for a furthe r 60 se cond s or until
t h e bel t i s f a s t en ed .

observe the instructions on installation and
use.

fitted, danger of fata l injury.

pas s enger’ s se at, provided that the latte r
is move d as far bac k as it will go.

systems from the ’DUO’ and ’KID’ ranges.
